maybe they should be alternately called "WOB".
ie.
"I was out kiting on my BOW when it inverted, so I came back to shore on my WOB."

This could lead to all sorts of new beach-language adaptations.
ie.
(1)"Is that WOBBOW over there?"
(2)"Don't you mean Robbo?"
(1)"No mate, definately WOBBOW; he inverts his BOW everytime he goes out!"
(2)"Cool... thought you had a thpeech impediment for a moment."

OK, so I've had too much coffee again.

Hmmm safety
quote:
The bows have raised the bar with safety

Raised the bar mmmmmmaybe

I watched my mates C/Bow three days ago go the multiple death spins/loops after a double side line tangle he was buggered with only one option - too release the lot - lucky after a couple of unwanted relaunches and spins he was able to keep it on the ground till I could grab it

lucky it was only 12 knts cause he would of been Rooted otherwhise

IMO no different to a C yet - as for releasing the bar for a saftey option mmmm didnt work this time, letting go of the bar could also be undesirable in many circumstatnces -

Safer ? dont kid yourself

Has anyone who has used these had problems with inverting?

Over the past few weeks, I think I have crashed my 12m Assult every way imaginable, but have not managed to invert it. (yet)
I hope it never happens because it sounds like a real pain in the ass!

Great thanks for all that - look forward to my next invert to try it
How's the Vegas for relaunch though? Nice thing about the bow's (when they don't invert) is that they just seem to pop straight back up into the air.

I guess there are pros and cons of both types - so it will be interesting to see what the designers do for next season.

Bows can relaunch inside out, people are calling this inverting. C shaped kites can and have been doing this for years.
The safety of letting go of the bar still works when the kite relaunches "inverted", all you need to do is crash the kite into the water again, that alone will fix it in 50% of cases, although you might end up with a twist in either side of your lines.

If the kite lands leading edge down but facing towards you - DO NOT swim at the kite, in fact do not swim at the bow kites at all.
If it is LE down as described above pull on one rear line, a lot, pull in several metres and then let it go, that should allow it to turn and end up LE down away from you and then you just do your normal pull on one rear line to relaunch.

Trim the kite with your fim sttap or cleat for a comfortable riding position, if you are having to ride in poo man stance you are using the kite above its wind range for your weight. All the trim strap does is move the bar closer or further relative to you. Depower is achieved by adjusting the bar position relative to you.

I have a Vegas06, it does not have the wind range (with out coming in to land and make adjustments), of a bow kite. I have observed a guy here who has Tribals, same thing. Plus Vegas and Tribal need to be ridden fast, they do not like being ridden slow and pointed high upwind like you can with some other C shaped kites and bows, to control speed and therefore wind range.

The Vegas06 is a great kite, for those that can and want to ride fast, boost big, have smooth power in a tight turning kite - so they are good for freestyle/wakestyle riders (same for Tribal). These tricks and style of riding can be achieved riding bow kites as was well proven by Rich Stenning at this years Freestyle Nats in Melb.

Power is very on/off on the Vegas, and tribal unless you let them run fast, this alone makes them not an ideal for kite for the majority of riders who want big wind range and safety, but hardcore, experienced wind junkies will love these kites.

i disagree , at least for the impacts part it has more depower than the bows ive ridden at the same time and in the same conditions, and the impact feels a lot safer and under control at the top of it's wind range once you've unhooked compared to the bows.

and as for safety.... i think i've seen more bows be rescued and swam back in, in the swan river than total numbers of other brands combined... and the reason is, when your a biginner you luff the kite when you crash all the time, and when you luff a bow and let the lines go slack , your in a world of pain not caused by c shape kites and so IMO theres no way i'd feel safe teaching some beginner to rides bows, they should stick to the other c shapes offered by the bow companies, thats what they are there for!, the only thing that is above board IMO with safety on the bows is the ability to puch the bar out and depower, the inverting, bridle tangles and death spirals are not safe at all, and most beginners, as the one in the start of this post,. struggle with having to deal with all the complications that have arisen from having the bow shape and getting that added depower.

well now that the kite companies know all the things that are wrong, maybe they will fix it. it is still really only the 1st phase of the bows and its now about the 8th phase of the c shape

Steve your arrogance is shinning through once again. Its a bit early to be saying the vegas is not for the majority of kiters let the kiters that kite day in day out decide that only time will tell.
Or is your opinion a little biassed as we all know you do not have a great relationship with the suppliers of north and naish kites.
Or are you a bit worried that the vegas might affect the sales of your bow kites. And we all know your profit margin is much better on bow kites than you have on north kites.

I agree, def not 100% depower on the cabs anyway as mentioned before no such thing as 100% depower otherwise there is no top end to a kite. Drama to flag the kite too unless you use something like the SS surefire spreader bar thingo.

Still love my bow, yeah it does wierd ****, yeah it aint the kite to all people but i'm used to it and into it and yeah my hamster has delved to realms unknown, i blame Bevo for his unstable mental state and periodic hallucinations. Trauma can do that.

Or you could just ride something like an old rhino 2 and forget about depower!
Then if you need to depower just boost as high as you can or ride it out!
Keep some excitement in your day.

Just expressed my opinion, thats what this forum is for, isn't it?
Aren't you being a bit hypocritical, your arrogance is pretty obvious too!!

Its a bit early to be saying the vegas is not for the majority of kiters let the kiters that kite day in day out decide that only time will tell.

Well, they are just about sold out, there was only ever a small amount of them available in Oz. ( we still have some though)
Trying to use the I kite more than you card is lame.
People see me out there almost every day.
By staying in business for 15 years and expanding every year its obvious we know a bit about what people want.

Or is your opinion a little biassed as we all know you do not have a great relationship with the suppliers of north and naish kites.

Now that is an arrogant and totally inpapropriate thing to say on a public forum, "we all know", what a load of sh1t.
Kitepower is still one of their bigger accounts, and we pay our bills.

Or are you a bit worried that the vegas might affect the sales of your bow kites. And we all know your profit margin is much better on bow kites than you have on north kites.

Kitepower was first to list them on their website, Kitepower pre sold several, Kitepower actually ordered a fair percentage of all the available stock.
You should take a look through the kiteboarding/kites pages at www.kitepower.com.au because what you are saying just makes no sense.
If we were so concerned about the bottom line why would we sell all the leading brands?
We would restrict our sales to only a couple of brands that have the highest margins for the company wouldn't we?

Hi Paul

I think you are and some others are misunderstanding what I am saying about the kite.
What I am saying is not even a negative.
For the majority of kiters who are cruisers, they will find that when they ride this kite if they edge hard and try to point high upwind to keep speed down, and therefore power down, the kite will feel like it powers up and down too easily.

I have watched you ride, and improve to be one of the best riders in oz over the last few years, and you ride fast, this kite is perfect for riders like you, but riders that can actually ride like you are actually fairly rare.

Does that clear things up a bit?

Hey steve thats why I walked into your shop one day and tried to buy another brand and all you tried to do was sell me a bow kite. The brand and kite I wanted was out in all the other kite shops and you told they had not been released yet so dont talk ****.
Other peolple have experienced the same problem.Anyway back to the Vegas yes I know they are all sold out so I take it they are for the majority of kiters not the minority like you said.

All along on this forum you have only pimped the brands you make the most margin on so do yourself a favour and everyone else keep your biassed opinions to yourself and do what you do best SELL BOW KITES.

There are not many brands that we do not sell, are you sure you are not a "team rider" for one of those brands, hmmm?

Did anyone in my shop point a gun at you and force you to buy anything under threat of death?

Don't come on here and lie, there were no brands that were ever sold by all shops in Sydney. Certain brands were only sold in some shops for certain reasons, all brands have never been available in all shops, so stop the BS. If we said the Naish Shockwave was not available yet, then to our knowledge that would have been 100% true, so what if we mentioned that another brand was available? Didn't you notice you were in a SHOP?

Not all the Vegas06 are sold from our store yet, we still have 1 x 9, 2 x 12M and 2 x 16M. There were only about 50 kites in total so that is not the majority is it, don't make up BS claims. Fairly sure there are still a couple of kites left at the distributors too.

We will keep doing what we do best, no worries. What we do best is sell all the top brands, at great prices, and provide service to anyone regardless of where they purchased their kite, 7 days a week.

Stick to the topic, stop slagging and whining.

Steve truth hurts hey, everything I have said is true, you are not liked alot in the kiting industry let me tell.As for price your pricing and discounts are crap. And if you were a true professional buisness man you would not even bother with a forum like this beacause you bite so easy and carry on, and always think your right.
We all know on this forum your opinions are biassed as you have kitepower in your best interests not the consumer.I have seen you carry on in your shop like a 10 year old abuse people and even chase them out of your shop.Like I said do what you do best and sell BOW KITES and leave the forums to unbiassed people that dont own a kiteshop.

15 to 25 ne - why are you giving this bloke so much grief.
He is in a business doing business - selling stuff.
Whats the big deal if one product is pushed over another.

If BEST was still the big deal then everything else would be pushed into the background. Now Bows are the big deal so they get the big push.
None of it is fair dinkum - people are crazy if they think it is. Its all about making money off the poor bugger who has been sucked into the game of " pay big money and you get a great product ". And don't believe the line " I'm dedicated to this and I'm doing this for the good of the game " Thats crap - Retailers are in it for the money and if they had a few million bucks they wouldn't be selling anything. - just sitting back at their beach home sipping on the good stuff.

Face facts mate NO one out there tells the truth in the retail business. He's just doing what he's trained to do - the world is full of B S ers..
If next week He finds a product that puts money in the pocket then that will be the BIG DEAL.

Any way mate don't worry - there is a new player coming to town who is backed with some big bucks - There will be a new kite seller in town and it will create " real competition " as kite deals will be done at hugely discounted prices - this blokes plan is to open the sport up to a much wider group of players - he's already loaded so its not about money for him - he has another motive.

Hey Anakin, just a question on the Vegas, seen 2 separate shops pushing them in the area and both had very competent riders on them and in both instances the kite seemed to be in the drink a hell of a lot more than one would expect. Both shrugged it off when asked if it was a problem and maybe they might need some getting use to but it was quite noticable. Any thoughts?

Mostly LF, SS and CAB around here. Don't think that N get the big sales push from anyone (Gold Coast).

Tried and very much liked the Vegas.

I managed to keep it out of the drink. Maybe those you saw dare to push it more than I ever would?

PS I have SSTD so no anti bow sentiments here. Yes it does occasionally invert. Crash, re-launch, problem solved.

As an 06 Vegas veteran (1 session so far) I think I can determine some of the cause of the kite in the water phenomenon. I am presuming that this is not happening when jumping - as it jumps just fine. I did however put the wingtip in the water quite a few times due to the quickness of the kite over the same size "C". My 14 m Vegas flies like my 10 "C" or smaller - nothing like my 14 "C".

Also - I am used to riding high aspect "C"'s and the Vegas is definitely not high aspect in traditional "C" cut. It looks at least a size smaller - i.e. it is more mid aspect.

Steve 15-25ne does have a bit of a point going, you used to go how good best kites were b4 when you first got that contract and were saying kites shouldn't cost more then $1500. what ever hapened to that. you also used to critisie cab a fair bit but now its the best **** around according to you. and hell you'll denie all this but if anyone goes back a bit they'll find post along these lines written by you.
