NO Its 6.30pm and its still 40C, I'm burnt to a crisp, dehydrated and can't put my infected ear under water. Further north it sucks. Plus the west coast has about a half hour of dls all year.

I see Perthnow brought the topic up again since a polling date has been announced. As per usual it is being discussed disproportionately to its importance, with 377 comments in just over 48 hours.

Not that it's unimportant, I think it's very important that we continue to have daylight savings so we can kite after work...

We have all had a while to gauge it, some people it will suit and some people it won't,

It does not suit me or my family and I will be voting No,

It shortens my window to kite as I have to wait longer if I want to get out for a early arvo session, and I can never manage to hang around for the classic sun set late sesh.

Having a family I always have to leave a bit earlier so I don;t end up getting home at 8.30 - 9pm which is to late for dinner with the kids.

It could be classified as daylight wasting as if you do hang down the beach in WA till latter you will notice not many kiters down there at all so a lot of people it seems are in the same boat,

As the sun sets in the West we have a lot of late arvo sun with the normal time so it you have a 9 - 5 and end up getting out there at 5.30 you can still have a great 2 hours sesh - and this is the best time anyway - as the sun it setting and the waves are at the maximum with the breeze blowing longer for the wind swell.

I have definatley seen less sunsets with the advent of DLS

One point heavily in favour of DLS however is the time zone with the east is closer.

Still - this would not sway my vote

History tends to repeat itself.
Daylight Saving in WA will be emphatically voted out by the public.

I'll be voting yes, but WA being what it is, will vote no.

The big mistake is giving people an option. If most of the western world can cope with it and the southern states of Oz have had it for decades, why do WA think they are so special.

I think people here thinks it's an evil plot by the eastern states to change their unique way of life.

Well the Perthnow poll has dropped from 75% in favour when I first posted it back to 73% now, and I think perhaps a lot of computer illiterate people might be voting 'no', so who knows what will happen.

One thing that I think is interesting, the total votes now add up to 98%, as oppose to 99% when I last looked. That's some interesting rounding being used.

The two best arguements I've heard against it are:

1. Clubbies who train in the mornings before work - with DLS there just isn't enough time to get in that run/swim/paddle before work. Unlike jogging along a path, daylight is kinda handy for being at the beach.
2. Ditto for horsey types, who (for some reason unbeknownst to me) like to train in the mornings as well.

Having said that, if we vote no then I'm moving back east. DLS is just so damn conducive to the lifestyle I want to lead.

And don;t get me started on trading hours!

yeah gaz - the great irony is that one supposed advantage of trading hours is that people's lives don't revolve around shopping. However the reality is that because the shops are open so infrequently, you actually need to plan your whole week around getting there.

This prolly doesn't apply to people with abnormal workign hours - but with an 8-6 job in the city, Saturday morning is sometimes the only chance I can get. And that eats into play time!

Rant over - back to DLS!

Well at least WA is getting the chance to have a say directly by referendum.

Here in Queensland, the Government undertook research in 2007 showing that the majority across the whole state are now in favour of daylight saving and 69% in the South East Queensland region are in favour. What did they do with that research? Took the easy way out by staying status quo and not giving the people the chance to have a say.

It's obvious that it doesn't suit North and West Queensland and since it's been 17 years since the referendum, and that's why a new political party has been launched - The Daylight Saving for South East Queensland Party (DS4SEQ). They are aiming to have daylight saving implemented in the South East region by a dual time zone mechanisim. Voting # 1 for this Party will allow people to have a say on this issue and they can then vote # 2 however they would like to vote ie one of the major parties if they so desire.

It's quite unfair that the Queensland Government is ignoring the majority on the issue of daylight saving.

So the whole of WA goes along with what clubbies and horsey types prefer

Colin Barret the epitome of health and fitness is against DLS maybe it interferes with his early morning surf or triathlon training.

Daylight savings - love it please vote yes!

I have young kids - getting them to bed is a bit harder, but at least they don't wake up at 4:30am in the middle of summer (they wake up when it gets light).

I also love kiting after work.
If I'm not kiting I love being able to do things with my kids after work.

What I don't understand is that people who seem to be most against Daylight savings (retirees & farmers) are the same people who are least affected - weird!

I would be happy with just 1/2 an hour or if daylight saving only went until the end of feb.

Vote yes for me please!
