I have windsurfed for 15 years and kited for 5. I only kite now because I live in NSW and for me its just not windy enough to have fun on a windsurfer - Its no fun on those big boards(90L+). I needed a solid 25 knts and swell breaking out the back to have any sort of fun on a windsurfer. These conditions happen now and then but not often enough. Now that I am kiting i am out every second day having an absolute blast. If I lived in WA there is a good chance I would take up windsurfing agian.
I still think in the very best conditions (strong cross Off, overhead, barrelling) the windsurfers rule the water - but the other 99.99% of the time the kites kill it.
Most of the kiters on this forum only see windsurfers going back and forth in flat water, or bogging out in knee high waves, they have no idea how hardcore it really is in strong wind and good waves.... Trying forwards took more guts than anything I have done on a kite.
