Kitepower is planning a trip to far north QLD this winter and need some more people to come with us!

This is purely a fun holiday, no products to sell, no pressure on anyone to buy gear or wear our shirts or anything... Just a week away with a group of kiters in an AWESOME spot!

We only have 3 spots left to fill so if you want to go, get in quick! We need 7 -8 people in order to make the trip cost effective. 8 people isn't much of a crowd in 25 knots is it?

We’re still deciding on dates, so if you can come on a particular day LET US KNOW!!! We’re flexible!

This will be run by the Australian Kite Surfari guys. The only part Kitepower has in the holiday is the organisation and some special extras. AKS takes care of the rest!

The week will run something like this: (These are the dates we’d like to go – but we’re flexible.)

19th July – Fly to Cairns, sleep in the Surfari accommodation.
20th July – Set out with the Surfari guys into the sunrise.
21st July – Ride in 20-25 knots until it gets dark
22nd July – Ride in 20-25 knots until AFTER dark
23rd July – Ride until you cant stand anymore – Arrive back in Cairns and begin the Kitepower Extra stuff
24th July – You can choose to go home, or stay and kite at one of the Cairns spots – Kitepower is hiring a people mover so we can go wherever we want. Accomodation is provided in the Surfari Lodge
25th July – Go home, or stay and kite at another spot, sleep in the Lodge again.
26th July – Head home...

The cost for the week is $1195 + Flights – The Surfari boys provide all the food, transfers and accommodation at the riding locations for this price.

They also provide a rescue service with Rib’s and the 4wd’s in case you ever get stuck, (Or choose to finish up 3 k’s down the beach)

If your choosing to stay the extra 2 days – Bring money for food – We’re gonna test out Rusty’s cooking skills. Apart from that it’s all included in the above price.

Flights with Virgin are around $180 each way with 23kg’s baggage (2 kites, 2 boards and clothes + your carry on) Or Jetstar does it for $149 with 20kg’s + Carry on.

So your looking at around $1500 for a 7 day holiday and WIND!!

I probably worded the other post wrong, I am going with the Australian Kite Surfari guys to Cape Flattery but just not on that date.
If I had my 4x4 over there I would go right up the Cape, but I can't be bothered driving from WA, so I am just flying into Cairns and hanging around the Cairns to Cooktown area with friends for a week or so then going on the tour with AKS after they head home.

I'm sure it's a nice trip and all but I'd rather spend $0 and just go to port douglas. Get 2 extra days kiting in (day in car from cairns and back again though is nice drive), crap in a real toilet and drink expresso's every morning.

Its 4 days kitesurfing. You kite on the first day that you drive as well, they just didn't mention it.

On the other hand, when we were up there, Port Douglas and Cairns had f all wind and this place had 20-25 knots, so you could argue it like this:

Sure you can go to Port Douglas, but we went up there for 9 days, had a 5 of days of 10-12 knots and eventually did the kite surfari because we'd already blown $1000 and we'd had no wind so we figured we'd be better off paying money and actually seeing some wind. So yeah, we got to **** in real toilets, drink real coffee from a coffee shop, and get drunk, but we went there to kite because I can do all that **** in Melbourne, so if I just wanted to **** and drink coffee, I wouldn't have paid for flights and accommodation to do it, so I'm happy to pay that sort of money and know that the wind doesn't stop blowing the entire time we are there.

Cape Flattery has a rediculously low chance of getting no wind, check the stats for may to sep, and you'll find out its true. If you don't go, say hi to the backpackers, because you may not be kiting and may have plenty of time to catch up with them.

The chances of wind that time of year at port, or better cooktown might not be quite as good as cape flattery, but have got to be close. I guess if coming from down south you've got to stay somewhere. still seems like a lot of coin though. You can bush camp at cooktown...distance from cape flattery as the wind flies, about 50 kilometers. cooktown doesn't jut out as much as the cape but it's a freakin windy place, and 25 knots at cape flattery is also windy at cooktown. Then again I'm sure the cape is a much nicer place to camp and a great spot. Don't agree that the price is justified. Mow much is a week in fiji or vanuatu?

Wouldn't you need to actually attend a trip to say where its value for money or not? That way you may actually see what goes into it rather than your perception of it without knowing the facts?

Seems everyone who has gone seems to think its a good deal.

show me other domestic 4 day camping tours around australia that run for over $1k. There are plenty in the Top end that face the same sort of costs and aren't as expensive. I don't begrudge anyone making a living BUT don't try and tell me you're doing it to make the world a better place.

How much is it to charter a liveaboard cruiser from port or cooktown and spend a week in the same area per head for a group of max 10 people?

Just googled some FNQ charter boats. Can charter a a 72 foot luxury motor cruiser all inclusive for four days at $1600 per head all inclusive. (Probably worth $2600 if a kite shop organises it but.) That's the top end of the scale. Plus you can dive, fish, snorkel etc. Or you can stay in cairns and go to green island every day for $60 per day. (cheaper than a lift ticket)

The price of the trip is what someone is prepared to pay for it. They obviously get crew paying that price, so the customers think the trip is worth the price...simple supply/demand.

Really, it is a business after all. If you dont like the price dont go...no need to bag bag bag.

People can make up their own minds.

Hey still keen....but only have a 9mtr Bandit......and cant aford a 12mtr as well as a trip ......Would it be safe with just a 9mtr......ash

Nobody Stress about kite sizes - Your goin with a Kite shop!!!! We've got Demo's from 6m up to 16m (Not that you'd need a 16!)

Great job kp take a good thing and exploit it to the masses,good work guy's..not.

These kind of trips are wicked and I wish kite surf safari the best of luck.
My point is... where you guy's are going is a very special,magical place and it's not to be taken for granted.
I organize exclusive trips up that way too so I don't want to sound hypercritical but I do it on the down low and keep them exclusive.

If you start taking large groups of pastey southerners with their kites and keep making regular trips like the dates and numbers you boy's are talking about then you are going to spoil the whole adventure.
its all about the place not the money and the amount of people you can take there, remember this.
Be very carefull that you dont wreck the whole experience for those who choose to make the journey north and that are looking for a unique experience.

Keep the sales to and in the shop don't sell the remote beaches as well.

But for pepole like me this is a great opp for me on a limited budget and with the Kitepower boys bringing a demo or 2, this helps me learn from exprienced riders and have another kite if the wind is poo.....

I just want to kite somwhere warm this winter.......and if you dont advertise......people dont know. exclusive or not. In Perth we kite with 30+ kiters in one spot all summer so having a crew of 8 will be bliss....

so bring on July.....

Plus we'll have 2010 Cabrinha and maybe Slingshot for demo by then...

Im planning a kite trip to FNQ for late Aug or Sept. so if a kitepower trip is on then im keen. I'll keep an eye out for posts/ads closer to sept.

Can it be a SurfAri if there's no waves? Or have you found THE spot in FNQ?
