With the amount of new kiters and the profile of the sport building around Australia it would fantastic to see WAKSA have a club house or Sports bar where you can have a beer talk kiteing, surfing what ever.
You could launch new dvd's there, give out results from competions etc. There could be memrobilia all over the walls, photo's etc.
The bar would obviously have to be funded some way but then eventually run itself and make money through booze and food and some of the money given back to the industry.
It would be open to the public and traveling kiters to tell tall stories and get the local knowledge on W.A.
It could be achieved with a bit of effort. I'm in.
I would be interested on everyones opinions.
Cheers.

one problem, when its windy you'll have no customers. when the surf is on you'll have no customers. kiters are the laziest people on the planet at turning up to anything! next to surfers, and chicks, and hobos and dead people.

opening down winder, both cancelled yet BBQ still had
long down winder, yet again 2 weeks of no wind in a row
kitejam, run on the second weekend
Xmas downwinder, no wind but party still went ahead
so far that's 7 days that have had all the planning done for [council permits, food and bus ect] with only 1 getting on water and 2 social off water events.
im involved only to a little extent so see how much work the others do and i can assure you there's a lot of work going in.

WAKSA exec may wish to publish some gossip on recent discussions to this effect, but as a lowly working committee member I'm not sure it's my place to go blurting it out. Nothing incredibly exciting anyway, don't get too worked up.

The wooden cogs in GreenPat's head, however, are turning...

This is just what the seabreeze forum needs. More antisocial, negative and destructive comments. That's alright though Carbine, I can instruct the bouncers at my trendy new kite/surf themed bar which I allow WAKSA to use for functions that you don't really want to come in, no matter what you tell them at the front door .

you're so right - kiters use as much energy as they can in getting out and use all of their time credits on the water. Kiters are super lazy - it's almost impossible to organise anything.

carbine is so cool he doesn't have to goto the party, the party comes to him... that's why he has 1200+ post on a web forum... GOON

Great idea GreenPat... get in contact with Mango at the City Beach Surf Riders Club. I can get you the details if you need. they have a great club room and lots of kiters are already City's members... City is a great coastal central location to!

good luck in your venture!

I have never seen such a bunch of negative respones to an idea that has merrit.
So alot of kiters are lazy who cares the bar is open to surfers and windsufers or who ever wants to come in for a drink you tools. Stop thinking of yourselves and look at the bigger picture. A water sports bar that caters to everyone not just the kiters it would fall over before it even began if we relied on the younger kiters. It would be awesome.

Funny that, Tarifa reminded me of Queenstown too, except rather than snowboarding and skiing it was windsurfing and kitesurfing. It was fkn awesome!

thought it was a cool idea as well

and if there is some affiliation with CBSRC then kiters could get some small input or at least insider knowledge of the changes/construction plans for the groynes down at floreat....fore-warned is fore-armed so they say

if a surf club opened its doors to kite members then it might raise revenue and ease some of the tension that is evident towards them in other threads
would be easier to buy them that beer when they rescue your board too haha

A bar of some sorts is a cool idea but it requires a lot of $$$ to get it started, epecially since it will most likely be located near the beach. Some ideas of setting one up with the power boat or sailing club at woodies. But it's a pretty big project, would much rather see a state titles or something realistic.

i agree if you want a sport to grow you have to have national championships and state titles before you could set up a bar!!

try Hula Bula Bar in Perth, has a tropical hawaiin theme and killer cocktails

A bar on the beach would be great, serving food and coffee, maybe alcohol - say pinaroo point - sort of like the south american scene, but alcohol, crowds and kiting would be a recipe for disaster? I couldnt see any council in perth accepting that.

Let us not forget that WAKSA is a non-profit organisation and would not have all that much money. There are only 420ish members, and remember that a large proportion of membership fees go to AKSA. Also let us remember that it is run by a handful of volunteers who are quite busy with their real jobs as well. And like Kitecrazzzy says, just because the events haven't all happened doesn't mean the work hasn't gone into organising them.

A commercial venture however, with some sort of agreement with WAKSA...

I'd like a WAKSA bar to have peanuts, caramel and museli in it.

I would hope for it to not be too nasty like mars bar are.

I got a good name for it

"The Seabreeze"
or
"The Seabreeze Bar"
or
"The Seabreeze Hotel"
or
"Club Seabreeze"

These could be franchised and be located all around Australia where wind, wave & water are.
They could be mobile or located in an existing club or if you got the dosh buy a block of land overlooking the beach and build a new one.
You could even set one up in Alice for that tropical Illusion in the desert

And one in Kalgoorlie - beside that big white lake.

This whole thread sounds like pipe dreams to me.

The only thing santa put in my sack was an imagination. There's nothing wrong with thinking big and besides it doesn't have too have any ties with waksa it could be a watersports bar with a contribution from all surf sports.

no need for personal attacks. keep it clean buddy.

im all for a "sports" bar sounds like a cool idea, but not a waksa bank rolled and organised effort when as it seems now its a struggle to get a state titles organized.

There is no one day "State Championship." The WAKSA membership (which was polled) did not rank having this venue highly enough. Therefore, it was decided that WA division ranking would be decided by whom collects the most points at WAKSA run digs like Kite Jam, Big Air, Kitestock, and Kite Cross. I do believe this was articulated to the membership in an email months ago. Furthermore, WAKSA has received differing opinions from some members about "comps,"......sometimes you want them and sometimes you can't be bothered to compete....this sport is about having fun, kiting, socializing and even ranking...but this last bit is not something the membership ranks highly (sorry, bad pun).

Surely that sports bar exists somewhere.....focus.
