Hi Peeps,

We are about to run our Intermediate Riders Clinics in December and need to get a few more bods to come and play with us.

This is a 5 day course designed to increase your current ability to ride in all conditions and advance your trick repertior.

We will be working on any tricks you wish but focusing on riding posture, gear adjustment, boosting bigger air transitions, rolls etc etc.

50% Theory and video analysis in the mornings and riding with radio helmets in front of the camera for precise instruction as you go through your tricks in the afternoons.

Minimum standard is to be able to stay upwind competently and change directions. see www.kiteboardingschool.com.au/courses.htm for more details. The course cost is only $400 and there is no more than 8 persons per course, get in quick.

Good winds,

I am officially VERY disappointed.

I'd love to do this.
Unfortunately, I'm getting married the day before. I don't think it would go down very well disappearing to a kite clinic instead of the honeymoon...

Enjoy guys...I'll try for the next one.

Hey Deso,

Dunno who you are refering to (Steve)??? No one here by that name. I have been asked to run a course taking in a couple of weekends or a three day mini course and will give it some consideration.

With only 8 of the original 18 who contacted me with affirmations of attendance actually booking into the course and leaving us well short of the expected peoples and running at a slight loss, I'm a little gun shy of organising another at the moment.

Lets just see how things go!

Good winds,

Oh and it's Darren, not Steve!

Whoops! Dont know where I got Steve from.Salt water on the brain?
Lets start again.
Darren,
Couldnt make all the days but happy to pay the $400 anyway.if you could fit me in.
Just a couple of questions.
Are you doing the instruction personally or others?
How many on the water to an instructor?
What is the level of riders already nominated?

Regards Deso

Hey Deso,

To answer your questions, yes I am doing the instruction personally. We look to have 5 in each course so 5 riders on the water at one time.

For this course I work alone but speak to all through the radio comm helmets. Most of the instruction comes from the video analysis and one on one radio coaching.

The level of riders is various but mostly good general riding ability and wanting to sharpen up basic tricks bigger boosts etc.

PM me to see if we can help you.

Good winds,

Ok, today was the final day of a great 5 days with cool dudes and lots of wind.

I was in the second group and was very happy with the course and my personal achievements. Like any sort of instruction, you get out of it what you put in also.

As a first course it was well run. We met every morning for coffee and cookies and looked at the video of us from the previous day. Watching yourself is a real eye opener as you realize how crap you are. Darren's analysis was always spot on and he could find very basic things we were doing wrong. Unless you have a pro point out bad habits, or things you are missing, your capacity for learning new stuff is limited. People get stuck in to bad habits for way too long. It can be some of the most simple things which hold back great potential.

Each afternoon was spent on the water at various locations in Perth Metro. We worked on the faults pointed out in the morning and rode in front of the camera again. Next, we put on helmets with radio contact so that Darren could cheer us if we did things well, or point out the mistakes we were making.

Everyone on the course improved their riding and learned new stuff. I was "done" on day three as I learned a new trick; and that is all I wanted out of the course.

Groups motivate, as does being in front of a camera. Some of the best moments were when someone in the group did something they had never done before. Watching us all improve over the week was the best.

I would like to thank Darren for the hard work he has put in to deliver something special. I'm looking forward to the next one already.

We had use of the best technology for everything any of us required.
This is a fantastic kiteskills extension program.
Whatever your level - if you're past upwind & comfortable cruising - this week of intense analysis & explanation will pay off for U BIG time.
Thanks Darren - a great week with long term benefits - WOOOOHOOOO
This is gonna be MY summer.

Hey thanks Guys,

It was great fun coaching you all during the last two weeks. Non stop wind was definately a great help (Ta Huey). I was really amazed at the progression of everyone on the courses and the "go get some attitude".

Yes kitecrazy, the guys had the ability to use the new 07 Airush Flow SLE kites if they so desired or if they didn't have appropriate kites for the winds on offer. The guys also had the chance to test ride some of the new boards like the 07 138 Switch, 132 X-Pact, 135 Protoy, Exile and 138 Hammer (Thanks Dan!).

The tricks the group were working on were many and varied as everyone set their own goals, but a few were :- Back roll transitions, better boosting, kite down turn transitions, front rolls, toeside back flip/roll, back roll kiteloop , front roll front kite loop transition, multiple roll grabbed transitions with down turns, blind riding etc etc. It's an impressive list for an intermediates course and credit goes to the guys who pushed themselves harder than expected.

And now for a few days off, ahhhhhh....

Thanks again guys, good winds,

Hey Ben, it is ok to make a heads down mistake when learning, we all do it...........and move on, hopefully never to do it again.

Woodies offshore is not a beginners spot really, especially when there are 22 kites out. You handeled it well given your limited kiting experience.

You have all the eagerness of youth which I really adore. However, you can take out someone else in the process. So Ben, when in a crowded spot.................keep you head up and look around.

See you on the water Ben and don't hurt yourself or anyone else. You are going to be great.

For anyone who was tossing up as to whether or not to do this course, when the next one comes up you have to give it a go!

It was an awesome week, and with other people on the course there for the same reason you are, everyone really encourages and pushes each other to try that one new trick (I'm looking forward to seeing that back roll Puppet!)

If your at a stage where you think your kiting skills have levelled out, and you sick of just tacking in and out with the odd jump thrown in, then this course is for you; there's a whole new world of kiting out there!

Thanks Darren, choice course.

Hey Myes Myes,

Yeah the thought had crossed my mind to do another one. It really depends upon if I can get enough interested peeps.

I was thinking that a course in late January or early Feb may be the go, but right now I want to focus on my week off. I'm a little burned out and need to find my zest again. I'll be back to it in a weeks time and will have a think about it then.

In the mean time, if you are interested in attending an IRC, let me know and I'll gauge interest and formulate dates. But before then, I'm off to Gero for a week of chillin out with my family.

Good winds to all,

I was in the second group too, and had an unforgettable week. It was great to spend a whole week with a good group of guys just kiting and talking kiting And with Darrens excellent instruction and guidance it was impressive to see how everyone progressed over the week.

The week didnt start too good for me, hurting my ankle with a bad landing from a front roll. Fortunately one of the other guys, Ben, knew how to bandage it up properly so it was supported. So Tuesday I had a pretty good kite, mainly working on the front rolls with some stylish variations that Darren suggested.

Wednesday I had an average session, wasnt pushing too hard, but Thursday was a cracker. It started with my first real self-rescue as my LE went down after a crash a couple hundred meters out. After walking my soggy kite up the beach and untangling the lines I was back out in front of the camera trying a mix of tricks. Darren suggested focusing on one, so the backroll kiteloop it was

Puppet and gruezi were on the beach with Darren on the camera, and were amused seeing me being whipped though the air, so they fired me up to entertain them further, with calls of 'do another one!' to which I obliged until the wind picked up a few more knots which resulted in a few hard stacks and the question 'Did you land on your head on that one!?'

Like the others said, having everyone motivating each other and darrens instructions in real time and with the video analysis in slow motion does wonders for improving your kiting, and is highly recommended.

Thanks heaps for the course Darren, I'm looking forward to doing it again after I've had some time to apply all that I'd learnt this week.

Hi Again all,

Going away tomorrow morning so I thought I might as well put up dates for the next Intermediates course if there are any takers.

I figure the 29th January 2007 'til the 2nd of Feb should be a good week, it's after the WA wave states, and after the Oz day Long weekend.

PM me if you are keen. I won't be answering any correspondence until X-mas eve at the earliest as I'm going to be up north on Holi's ripping up a few waves under a kite .

Cheers and good winds,
