We're up to about the 5th right of way thread in as many years, where half the folks refuse to accept there are actually rules.....

Licensing by itself is crap, we all know that.
Its the promise of forced education that comes with licensing, that is percieved as a solution.
This is also usually fallen short of its promise.
I can see Cooky has genuine concern, likely with very good reason.
And I think he's not alone. (Big call considering the red thumbs).
I would hate to have my rego due on my 13m edge, every 12 months.
But make no mistake. It is coming. The posters thread was about when is the right time.
To most, including myself the answer is never.
I lived in Darwin for 7 years, when there were no demerit points, speed limits, skippers tickets, even boat regos.
Most of thats changed now but it hasn't saved the dumb ones.
Most of my kiting education has come from this very forum, I've had to filter through a lot of crud.

For a good example of how useless and ineffective licensing is just head down to your local waterway and observe the retards on jet ski's.

Not sure about that idea but maybe compulsory to do learners safety course ,self rescue to stop

It would anger so many people if the sport was to become regulated. All the kiters not in country really don't need it. And for regulation to happen it'd be city kiters participating with maritime etc to enforce it. They couldn't come up with a system of licencing without us telling them how to test or what the skills are to train someone.

So if it does come up, we would just have to pull back and say its the vibe.. Kiting is a rhythm and cant be tested. Its only once some twat tells maritime what skills are needed that we would lose the battle.

Pure and simple it'll never work, overseas visitors has been overlooked, more of a concern would be the influx of new test centres opening overnight,it'd be like the national insulation sceme I for one would give it the finger, geez this country is going to the dogs, just leave us alone

It is quite clear that IF licensing etc was going to be implemented it would be administered by the same mob who licence boats and such. Not hard to figure out...

I was not saying it will happen, I was clearly refuting bjw's assertion that it is not possible. However you'd rather get in a lather about what mark wrote (as usual) than see I was responding to a previous post.

And I never said bans were caused by lack of obeying ROW rules. I likened the dismissive ignoring-things mindset about bans, to the recent ROW threads where people seem to wish to play willful blindness and claim the rules do not exist (when they plainly do)

In Germany you can drink the finest beer on the street without getting a ridiculous fine and buy it at a very low price from just about anywhere, plus you can drive as fast as you want if you are in the correct lane on the autobahn. Doesn't seem like such a bad place to me !!

D##kheads will be d#%kheads whether you make them get a licence or not. Heavier regulation on kiting is just around the corner for WA whether we like it or not, the flares and life jackets are just the beginning.

The real solution is to act as a culture and promote safety and awareness on a group and individual level. If you've got a local crew at your beach make sure you all get on board and advise and instruct people who are doing the wrong thing. Everyone of you out there who is against a licence ( myself included) make it your mission to offer friendly advice to anyone in the wrong instead of just winging about it after the fact.

A friendly lecture from somone who knows what their doing and can show you a better way is always going to be more powerful than a licences or a fine from a government that has no idea !!
