i can top all that i just started driving 40 ton tip truck on a mine 20km out of bunbury wa. long hours and f**king GREAT pay but the best thing is if it is windy we have to close the mine down for the day cause the neighbours complain and we get fined. i still get paid even though we get called off and still get to kite. win win.

We may have a winner here!!

And thanks for the relationship advice, i have decided to change job. Mining. 8 days on 6 days off $63K. missus will get sick of me after 2-3 full days at home and then send me to the nearest beach as soon as it's windy. Not ditching missus yet, still love her for lots of other reasons, plus 1.5 kids, still a few more years and they'll be able to come with me. Looking forward to that!!

now, if i can just find the "pynee wind clause" in my contract i'll be sittin pretty!!

2 days 2 nights 4 days off enough for me to kite.

On the same roster, can't beat it. Can effectively kite 6 days out of every 8 and making some OK money with a lot of overtime that I can pick an choose ie not when windy.

Downside is night shifts are 14 hrs (6pm to 8am) and they can take there toll on the mind and body.

That's my little story but if you want to find out more about how you can find a job that allows you to have flexibility may I suggest some reading material like Robert Kiyosakis book 'the Cash flow quadrant'

Kiyosaki's stuff will get you thinking a bit differently. Everyone one here is talking about jobs. Try changing your mindset to building income. Build a business, learn to invest. It'll take more time upfront but in the longer term its much better. I just watched a really good video of his recently
http://www.freehomebiztraining.com/the-perfect-business/

Theres plenty of ways to make money online. I have access to a heap of online courses for online marketing, affiliate marketing, copywriting, traffic generation, network marketing etc etc etc if anyone is serious.

Err, really??? just kidding...

Lets face it, and Im going to sound like a saddo now, but your carreer will last longer than your kiting addiction. Time goes on, you get kids, so cant kite as much, but still have to trudge to the shatty job to pay the bills. My advice? Get a job you like...

Things are pretty good over here at the moment, the demand for staff (particulalry in engineering) means that conditions are good - mainly flexitime - in at 7am, out at 3-4pm, at woodies by 4-4.30pm a couple of times a week and still fit 40 hours in quite nicely. Plus I get to build ****. Not bad.

Another good question is.... "cities that allow you to kite after work".

somewhere like capetown. light till almost 8:30pm, big enough to find work, small enough to get around quickly. on the water by 6 and you can have 2hr sessions 4-5 times a week over summer, and if you dont mind the cold/rain sessions almost every weekend over winter.

I have friends there who work 40hrs a week and kite more than a bum would in nsw or qld.

never been to WA but it must be fairly similar with wind/daylight savings?

Davlight savings in perth is the best thing to happen to kitesurfing since sliced bread. Its just a shame that the sun still shines through the windows onto the TV screen when neighbors is on and it's gonna get voted out because of this.

I think we should dig a big hole in the ground and push all the squares in it... cover it up REAL good.

I finish work at 4.30 (flexi hours), and i work in kwinana so it gives me plenty of time for a good session at either woodies or safety bay. Our work (BP Refinery) actually has it's own beach, so i could probably kite there but i'm not sure if i'm allowed around the oil tankers... haven't tried it yet. We also have electronic wind strength and direction monitoring on site, i even have it set up to email me when the wind gets strong enough. Also get enough coin for good equipment without having to sacrifice my annual skiing trip!

I'm happy anyway.

NO its NOT
Just means all you workers scramble down and crowd out my favourite spot an hour earlier than you should.
I say "Vote NO to DLS" - and keep our beaches less crowded.

besides sliced bread is strictly for busy people - I prefer to go the full "loaf"

Hi Campers

Thanks for your post. I think you picked up on something that I didnt really think of at the time when I wrote my post. I relised the whole time in my past work career that at the end of the day you only get paid the minimum of what your willing to be able to work for. JOB stands for just over broke.

I am assuming you understand the Cashflow quadrant story? Many of my current top clients talk about their previous lives being slaves to work and being too busy working to make money. I didn't get what they meant up until now.

To be really honest the more I kite the more leverage I am able to build. I get more business basically. I am still learning to change my way of thinking to mend the way my parents, school and peers conditioned me thing to be another cog in the way society operates.

Sir Richard Branson gets to Kite Surf alot on his own tax free Nectar Island in the carribean.

Working out in remote locations like mining is a good way to get swollen reserves in cash but you should use that reserve to set up an exit plan to get out of the rat race.

-- I got a good one for you... working as a crane operator for construction sites. Pays reasonably well and you cant work when its windy.

Yep me too, took the job because it suits me for kiting in the summer, surfing in the winter, I can sleep in & kite 6 days out of eight. I get paid reasonably well and even get an extra weeks annual leave because I work shifts.

No I'm not a firey or ambo, its more of a monitoring type job and I spend half my time surfing the net and even manage a few zzz's on night shift, especially if there is a strong easterly forecast for the morning. I finish my night shift at 7am and sometimes head straight down the river for a couple of hours before heading home for a bit more sleep.

I used to work as a sparky mon -fri 7 till 3.30 which was good anyway for kiting but I don't think I would like to go back to getting up early every morning and joining the freeway circus.

Hi peeps,

I now have the best job for kiting. It is my job to demo Ozone and Airush kites. Of course this means I need to go out and ride them to show customers their potential and keep them flying to be in the air as often as possible.

I get to fly lots of awesome kites almost every windy day and my office is the beach. I get to work as often or as little as I like. Only drawback is the income is very seasonal and not a lot of pay overall. But it sure is fun!

Good winds,

if you were really committed you could turn tricks at the dunnies beside the rigging area. Great hourly rate and then right at the launch site when the wind picks up!

Maybe you should become a paid kite b1tch?... Including co-ordinating the downwinders. I myself and a male gigalo, this gives me loads of time to kite.

i agree with QFmike737 - a tradey job is one of the best - and easily obtainable in these boom times.
i start around 8am and finish around 3-4pm
on a good day i can make $600+ after expenses.
if there is no wind i can pick up another job and another $100 - or go home for a few beers.
now just gotta convince the GF of the NEED for another kite.
