Imagine having exclusive kiting to one of the most pristine locations in WA.....

Imagine being blessed with warm weather and constant sea breezes......

Imagine an event for all kiters......

Imagine no more.

Kitestock is going to happen on the 17th/18th/19th of March 2006 at Port Gregory, WA.

The premier event for WA this season will bring together kiters of all levels, along with families and friends to enjoy exclusive access to the beach and ocean at Port Gregory.

Kicking off on Friday 17th March, with some social kiting, a sundowner bbq and a chilled evening of music and drink it will be the perfect way to start a weekend of unlimited kiting.

Saturday will see non-stop kiting action, with various "events" that all kiters can participate in, with prizes from some of the leading kiting manufacturers; plenty of food and drink, plus a live band for the evening entertainment.

Sunday will offer more kiting for those willing to stay that bit longer.

Throughout the weekend they'll be demos of the latest equipment and expert advice from some of the best kiters in WA.

Kitestock is all about the social side of kiting and we encourage people to come along and bring their friends and families to enjoy what will undoubtedly be THE event of the year.

The event will require pre-registration and all riders must have Public Liability Insurance, either through WAKSA or AKSA.

Details of how to register, including costs will be made available soon.

To get on the Kitestock mailing list, send an email to [email protected] to receive event updates to your inbox.

Or keep checking www.waksa.org.au for all the latest news.

Hey whats the wind like up there at that time of year..

Would a 10m and 14m cut it or would you need something smaller...

For the average 80kilo ridder.

Hi Geeza,

You could expect anything between 15-25 knots that time of year.

On average the wind is stronger than in Gero and tends to come in a couple of hours earlier.

The water is flat, with an exposed reef on the outside breaking up any swell. It's flat water heaven!

Hope this helps.

Does this include the marine algae (beta carotene) farm at Port Gregory? Imagine all that 'even' flatter water of the salt pans adjacent the coast when the breeze iza howlin'

Port Gregory is about one hour on from Geraldton between Geraldton and Kalbarri.

The Man His Royal Highness Prince Leonard Sovereign of The Hutt River Province Principality (and Shirley) live nextdoor... http://www.hutt-river-province.com/ hmmmmm I wonder if he kite

It is also the site of Australia's largest cannibis bust. Back in the early '90s some fisherman (NOT LOCALS) buried around 12T of imported hashish/thai sticks on a nearby beach.

Other than that, it is around 500km, literally 5hrs. Turn left at Northampton (50km North of Geraldton along the hwy.) - now you are on the coast road to Kalbarri. Follow the signs - can't miss it because of the big mother of a pink lake, Hutt Lagoon.

I live at Horrocks Beach and can see from Geraldton through to Port Gregory from my block there. If there is any difference in wind arrival time and strength between Gero and the Port it is minutes rather than hours.

March is obviously the hot time of year and if you get troughed out you can forget seabreezes, but might get a hot and gusty Easterly. I'm sure you'll have a good time (and I'll come for a gander), but be aware the timing is on the edge of the windy season.

Cheers

Dave

This date we aimed at was for a time when the wind wasn't going to be too strong .

This is an event for everybody that kites (most people would only have a 12 ) so we wanted friendly conditions for kiters and the spectators .

The idea is to have a party on the beach and do some kiting .
If we don't end up kiting the party will only be better and bigger .

A lot of effort is going into this and it is mainly aimed at the people who want to learn a bit more about the sport and want to meet other kiters .

The winners here will be judged by the size of thier smile .

Hope to see you all there
regards
Mike

yeah but it could be dry reef that they are breaking onto , which could explain why the lagoon is so flat. i would like to know off someone that has been up there if those reefs are rideable or any nearby waves and if so does it get much swell that time of year. march should start getting more swell after summer. and is there any good beachies

Waves to the North, around Nobby's point, looong beach break. Will need big swell though.
Waves you see break onto dry reef. Hence, flat lagoon on the inside.
