www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Events/View/Kitepower-Demo-Weekend_1207750.aspx

Just wanted to remind the locals in Sydney and surrounds about our demo days, good winds predicted tomorrow, lighter stuff on Sunday.
Dave from Slingy will be there with Rev and T2 demos, boards, etc, even his trampoline.
Hudson from Cabrinha is coming up. Kites boards from other major brands will include Flexi, Naish, Ozone, Underground, Best, Nobile, etc. We got our first major shipment of Cabrinha gear during the week, so we will have demos of the full range of boards (except the surfboards) and kites, full stocks available for sale too, including Naish Helix and Cult, Sling Revs and T2's, Ozones, Flexi Atom 08, Best Nemesis HP, etc.
We should be on the beach south of the rock groin at around 11am, we will have a barby for lunch and some beers later in the arvo.

Big thanks to Steve and all the gang at Kitepower. Today's demo day was a ripper with 30+ knot winds at times and every size and brand of 08 kit as far as the eye could see. Everyone got to try so many kites which wouldn't be possible without the support of a local kite shop. Days like this are a great learning experience and the perfect opportunity to choose your weapon for the season and know you made the right decision...... I hope.

Also great to see so many kiting mates again. Reminds me how lucky we all are to be part of such a friendly and helpful community.

BRING ON THE NOR'EASTERS !!!!!!!!!

I agree - a terrific day. A huge thanks to Cole and the others who helped me when a jump gone wrong resulted in an hourglass kite. We sure have a wonderful community down their at Dolls.

The Ozone Instinct Edge was my pick of the day. So smooth, so little back pressure on the bar. wonderful stuff...

BTW: Can anybody tell me who was videoing? Was wondering if I snuck into any shots? (I'm the big guy in the Yellow helmet and the pink Nobile 555 board)

Hey Stfubbq, sorry mate, it was just way too windy to set up the barby anywhere, we have tried before on days like this and everything gets coated in flying sand, and its cold as soon as it leaves the hotplate, if we can actually keep the barby alight!!
Next time.

@Wdric and User
It was the 11M Ozone Edge, it was slightly too big for the day, and the rider (Grant) will agree to that I'm sure. It was a combo of penduluming under the kite from a jump gone bad, and a run in tide. It was not terminal, we retreived the kite and its fine, and I would say a more experienced rider with that kite would have relaunched it.

Overall it was an excellent day, very windy, over 30 knots and constantly between 25 and 30 for most of the day, with an opposing tide!
Standout kites were the 9M Cult, 11M Edge, 10 and 8M Cab SB3's, Slingshot Revs in 7 and 9M (biggest jump by Lee Kav, at least 40+ feet)and Flexi Ion2 (not my kite 8.5? or 6?).
The new quad concave Cab Custom 1.33 handled the chop better than anything according to those that rode it.

Thanks to everyone who came along and to all those that helped me out over the course of the day, I sure was kept busy, I must have landed and launched kites at least 60-70 times!!!

Damn family reunions

On the upside I managed to drink over half a case of beer before moving on to the long island iced teas, and I still feel better than my uncle who has been spewing up blood all day. Sucks to be him.

Any standout kites? Did it happen at Kurnell today at all?

You aint jokin' !!! After getting to try a whole stack of kites in those conditions, I found the Ozones to be the real standouts. So much so that I shelled out the pennies for a new 11 Edge yesterday. Can't wait for the wind to blow.

Thanks Steve and all the boys that worked on the beach, Peace, Matt, Hudson and everyone that threw in a helping hand!

I only tried one kite, the 8m SB3... what an easy kite to fly, good range, great lift and handled the gusty conditions very well.

Thanks again,
Charl

Yes several people tried it. However I think it was a bit big for the winds we were getting?
Some commented that it felt a bit heavy (not necessarily a totally bad thing, but maybe suits bigger riders more) and that the kite surged a lot (rider felt the gusts).
It was not an ideal day in terms of winds for testing a 10M that seems to be fairly grunty, most used kites were 9M and smaller. However there were people happily testing the 10M SB3 and the 11M Edge, as well as the Nemi.

We will be getting the kite back for more demos, it just has to be sent off to another shop for a week or so, than it will come back.
I'm disappointed I never got to try it.

The 10m SB 3....what a kite!!! I had a blast on it, easly held me in the gusty 25-30kn conditions without a issue at all. Great de-power and range on the bar, and surprising low end grunt when the wind dropped in the afternoon. Heaps of boost and nice float on the way down. The construction on this years Cab's are great, looks absolutely bomb proof. All I can say, is bring on more wind to ride it in!!!!

What bar size, line length and rear line kite setting on the Nemi demo 10 did you have it on?

With the ozone kites, are there any adjustments for bar pressure and turning speed? I found them nice and boosty but not enough feedback to the rider at the bar end. Would like to try it on different settings but couldn't seem to find any on the kite without making home made bridal mods.

Wondering also if you had the LF Havoc 2008 to test?

You guys are so cruel.

Jeff, based on the shoes you wear, I wouldn't be talking that loud. The boardies won't help you Jeff... you still look like you've swallowed a bowling ball. You must really being enjoying those beers.

MergaTroy, I've learnt that when in Rome......
I vow that Boardies will be kept with Kite kit from now on for use over my wetsuit in case of a Dolls Pt session. Really hoping I'll never need them again though. PS: Maybe I can buy your boardies. I'm guessing that pretty soon, you won't have much time for kiting anymore.....

G'day Kurt

Yes it was flown several times, it was on a waroo 07 bar, 55cm, and we used the 3rd/middle knot. It was quite obvious that this is where the lines had been connected many times before, and the knot used really only has to do with getting the bar position right for the average rider anyway. There is no magic to this stuff, all competent kiters here know how to tune a bar to suit themselves, and the majority of people that ride the kite were current Waroo 07 owners, so they are used to setting it up.
I cannot remember which rear tow points were connected, I think it was AB. That really only makes a difference to bar effort (and the effort is seems to take to turn the kite, its just a leverage thing), although there is a small difference in sheeting range over the 3 options.
No to LF.
Ozone - you need to ride the kite on the water, at normal speed and then the rear line feedback is good, and light. People without much experience on the Ozones will tend to think they need to shorten the rear lines, but this just ends in over sheeting and choking the kite. The kite does not display obvious oversheeting until you have it backstalling.
We are suggesting to Ozone to make the rear line adjusters to have a longer throw.
It is quite easy to tie some knots in the rear line bridles if needed. Not really any different to choosing a knot on the Waroo/HP.

I did not get to fly the HP myself and I will not get a chance to for another week or so, we had to send it to another retailer, and will not get it back for a week or so. I'll post a review when I do.

Hi Steve
I wasn't referring to the trim knots - I meant the attachment points on the kite - sorry if I confused you. Interested to hear what you think when you actually get to try it. The AA setting compared to AB is very, very different. Don't forget to pump it up nice and hard to enjoy the benefits even more of the cuben fibre LE section. The upwind is incredible imo, not to mention the a lot of other points.

It would be good if ozone had some adjustments readily available on the kite/bridle to give it some more responsiveness and rider input. I'm not referring to trim knots either. This has been the only sore point expressed by guys here that have tried it but not bought one. Love the simple graphics and colours on them, they look great in the air. It does jump nicely too.

it wouldnt be too hard to experement, basically make a new rear bridal, and vary the lengths between the 2 rear attach point, like the mod on the original instinct was, i modded my 11m and have never looked back, the kite is soo much better to fly now.

hhaha, there's no such thing. Every kiter i know is an expert on kite design, disagrees with something that the manu has done on their kite and has modded/fiddled and "improved" their gear.

The only thing I have moded on my octanes in the last two years is the panel layout on the 12.

I thought they were to large so I had them made a little smaller.

Its called tree surgery
