This may be a stupid question or it has been asked before but why can't we kite on the Swan river in Perth on any wind other than a SW as it is a winding river and there are two sides to every river. You going to reach the side some time.
Other than possibly being gusty or having wind shadows, the bows/sle's/hybrids could manage most of this as they do at Melville.
The one pro is that the water could be silky smooth.
Well, there's only a couple of spots that work on the SW and they are pretty gusty as well. Lucky Bay and Pelican Point get the wind that comes down a bit of a valley through Ardross. Any where else - it gets blocked by the houses and hills and has too high a wind range to be any fun. There are another couple of spots that work on a strong easterly.
Its also about access - distance to water, parking etc. Lots of small cliffs both sides of the river west of the city.
I often wonder why I never see anyone on Perth Water on the Easterly - too many hazards, I think.
probably because the non SW winds are shifty and people dont want to go ouit and have the wind change on them leaving them stuck somewhere or on the wrong side of the river.
Yep - on the Easterly I don't go right across, just short runs as it can literally drop off to nothing at a moments notice and you can be stuck in the channel with yachts, ferries and the like.
