Ningaloo is the only place in WA for reasonably predictable (late) winter kiting. A season in Sumbawa and Mauritius passed without Aussies. Kids get restless...

Basically yes.. Because of covid heaps of people are stuck in the state. Yes (some) perth/international kiters seems to have a thing of going through people on beaches to 'show off' such as areas like the pond which isn't good especially with kids around but there are dozens who know what they are doing and don't cause any problems with them
In regards to the 'school' above they turned up a few years ago and as a longer term state kiter I.. As many do.. Have problems with their 'oh wobiri is gusty comments' as being around for a longer amount of time I know it's not #allways# gusty(rarely is).. . It's actually a bloody good spot.. and in that particular week the swell at wobiri was pretty amazing(2/3m?) so of course.. After the SW set in people wanted to kite it!!

The surf school above (which is new by my time frame) rocked up with students.. Respect to that.. Obviously some kiters wanted to do that swell too...so they did. I remember the days v well when there was no surf school there.
Part of me thinks well.. We could all kite it years ago on swell like that because we didn't have surf 'schools' to worry about.. Which is actually #annoying# to us and gets in the way..... as you can imagine.. . The other side has respect for it and tries to heed other kiters to 'be polite'..(I. E stay away).
. . So there's a wave you tack out to on the left where the experienced kiters go that doesn't cause any trouble.. This used to be a 'secret wave' like many others which is now advertised and congested much more so thanx to the school so the school has actually created a difficult situation with rifts with locals loosing their private breaks etc etc to some tourism business...... So dislike is there too..
The argument above from my point of view is related to the new school besides going round telling everyone what he thinks is 'right or wrong'... creating a fight with well known WA kite representative and godfather of the sport 20years ago basically having a fight picked on him by the new shop.... Literally.. (related to his wife treating the godfather like ###t).. .. And myself. At this point I put my foot down on here.. I have alot of respect for long term godfathers of the sport(or repairers)..
So I am crystal clear that if any sign goes up with that name on I will take it down myself....only due to the lack of respect for people kiting(and teaching) there.. at that exact same beach.. twenty years ago being disrespected.. The school seems to want their cake and to eat it but he's a v v good board shaper.. Maybe he's 'under the thumb' a v evil narcissistic thumb..?..
.. And that's what happened in that magic week.. To be continued... Dadadada roll on sister..

How can I argue with such a well articulated statement like that I'm out. Thanks for reading the original post, hopefully it wen't someway to helping resolve the issue.

are you guys talking about wobiri or graveyards?

I spent three years living in exmouth, and the only time i saw wobiri any good for kiting was on a cyclone swell and when there was more west in the seabreeze than usual.

or maybe the sand has shifted a lot since 2008?

Wobiri was quite busy while I was around...

Just got back after 3 weeks up there and the water was the coldest I had experienced for that time of the year in the last 20+ years. Maybe that has something to do with it.

One #maaaajooor# bit of advice I can give to any kiter(or windsurfer/foiler doing any of these other 2/3km ish far out breaks.. As I tried to give advice to a few this year(as probably alot of longtermers know).. .. Is '#check#' to see there are no tinnies moored at these breaks before you launch & go out...( And they can reach there from several launch'spots'. ).. .. . The local surfers hate it and some have been doing it for decades.. And one of these breaks is particularly good 'surf' on a sw wind... Allthough everyone knows school hols are a special time for everyone
There are plenty of occasions when some surfers literally tell the kiters to 'f. Off' and say they have no real respect for them on the wave. So please just check their are no tinnies moored or if they are.. That you know them ??

I'm with the "why would you kite Wobiri" crowd, so many better places to kite around there.

If you knew the person (and past and present actions) you wouldn't be too worried about the monkey dung being flung to Tom. Infact it's hilarious.

but that's the issue with social media, polarises and reduces the arguments to the extremes. Gives voice to those with the loudest.

That being said and in the name of trying to be balanced, the dung flunger has some good points as well. Infact couple of mates did head out to this break that was mentioned, surfers got pissed at them so they showed local respect (plus their frustration) and went back in. they ended up catching up with them after, had a few beers with them and all was cool.

that's how 99 percent of us behave in reality. good common sense, respect for each other. Infact even the dung flunger here is a really nice bloke, a little left of center (from my boring perspective) but overall a good person


but on any Internet forum (not just here) things get weird. I know I myself have been very guilty of losing my head in the past and have said some horrible things to some really good people. My bad.
