OK Rick - i launched at Blacksmiths today and turned to my kitebuddy and said -"just incase i get eaten by a shark, ive hidden my car key in the roofrack" as soon as i said it i knew i cursed myself! So i tacked out and entered the Swansea channel mouth ( Entrance to Lake Macquarie) and sure enough i fell off my board! I figured i better bodydrag to it ASAP as the tide was going out and it was feeling sharky! Well along comes a 3 meter shark and he does a big circle around me and im trying to stay calm , got to my board and of course i fumble like a goof because im s****tin myself , survived the encounter to have a beer and complain about my smelly wetsuit. dont want to do itagain!
Was there at 3pm , on a lemon colored rhino, Greg was in the channel with me, I gave him the shark sign, and he waved back thinking i was waving at him?, Michelle was at Salts and a few other kiters were there that i dont know.It did happen! My legs were shaking for 10 mins. fight or flight ? i flew!
when are you gonna change that name shano. the dang is a horrible gusty shark infested death trap.
he was snorkeling looking if it was worth going for a fish later
I'd be more worried about the white pointers up your way. how about the pic in the paper of the surf school in northern nsw with a great white 30 meters away from the students. The instructor copped some flack for not alerting the students, " I didn't alert them cause the great white was only cruising past, not behaving in an aggressive way"
In my opinion he probably did the right thing.
