What are the better kites out of the LF m80's or F.one tribals for someone starting out?

I've been offered a 9 & 12m m80 from a mate, but I've heard pretty good things about the tribals. Also kinda like the stop'n'go of the f.ones.

Am I liable to get away with a single kite with the tribal for about 70kg's

Opinions??

The Liquid Force M80 Kite has no where near enough depower for a beginner. I started on a LF Menace Kite 10m and upgraded after about three sessions, due to the lack of depower. The M80 is even older than the Menace Kite. The tribal on the other other hand has heaps more depower and is much safer for a beginner. I have a 14m F One Rival, which is similar to a tribal, and I learnt on this with no problems. It has plenty of depower. Go with the Tribal.

Yeah mate go the Tribal, heaps more depower, nicer bar too - Every M80 fell to bits, and if it hasn't already, it will soon!!!

some tribal 1's had bridal issues with particular sizes, ( it got worse the bigger they were and as a result they needed to be pumped up rock hard ) , tribal 2, was much better then the tribal 1 IMO...

If your getting a kite that is that old, ( M80 vs tribal1 ) the condition of the gear will be as / most important than the kite design.

I started kiting with an M80 in 2006 in Dubai and liked it because I had nothing to compare it to. I did have trouble with the seam on the inside of the leading edge. It kept splitting and eventually was replaced under warranty. Also, the donkey dick fell off a couple of times.

I tried an 5 line F One Tribal 13m one day and changed over straight away. It was easier to control, lighter on the bar and better depower. It was a great kite so out of the two I'd go for the FOne Tribal.

I had an MIG and Havoc Liquid Force as well but since being in Oz I've been using Cabrinha SB 10m and it is the best kite I've used in the 2 years I've been kiting. I'll be sticking with Cabrinha from now on and won't use a 5 line kite anymore because of line tangles.

F One' s don't have as much supplier support in Oz as the Cabrinha or Liquid Force.

Hope this helps you to make up your mind.

I'd consider a few others too. Everyone is selling to upgrade right now so there are tons of bargains around. The M80 is a full on c-kite and like any other c-kites with limited depower, it is not going to be as forgiving as one with full depower. Also safety aspects you got to bear in mind. You should also consider trying bow/hybrid kites. Most are much easier to fly and relaunch.

The first batch of M80 did have production problem in 2006 but everyone of them were fixed or replaced free of charge. It was one of the best kite in the year and certainly all subsequent productions were good as. The 2008 Liquid Force Havoc was voted kite of the year in many countries around the world.

If I were you, I'll go for a newest 4 line hybrid kite you wanna spend. Most brands in the market brought out very good hybrids in 2008 and most are on clearance sale as 09 range are in store. You should save at least 30%, even more in some cases.

If you are in Brisbane and just getting into the sport, take a lesson with us and try out our range. If you decide to buy the kite in the end, we refund your lesson in full towards the cost of the kite. If you have any other questions feel free to PM.

Happy kiting!

Vossy go simple with an easy relaunch and plenty of depower.

The following are worth checking out:

- Cabrinha Crossbow IDS
- Slingshot Rev
- Flexifoil Atom
- Ozone Instinct Light
