Is that at all connected to the organisation that got all those people burnt in the bushfires in the Northwest, doing a marathon or something.
It was on Australian Story or 4 corners or something....

Absolutely NOT. We will have medical staff on hand for all sectors. A fully checked 'emergency out' procedure in place for each sector and all normal risk assessment procedures covered.

i enjoyed the statement "can't kite? we'll train you!"

So they are prepaired to thow up to 20 newbies on a 200km ocean crossing?

very silly.

it should read "can't kite? Fark off until your good"

Other that it looks amusing. mountain biking in 30+ degrees for 700km doesn't sound like much fun.
PS i'm a better mountain biker than i am a kitesurfer.

that would have to be the shxttest thing I have ever seen advertised. If I wanted to ride a mountain bike for 6 days, I can, If I want to hike for a day, I can, why on earth would I want to kite through UBER choppy, Mega currenty sharky and crocky water for two days for $3500?
Some people need stuff like this so they can puff their chest out at a Barby and say how awesome they are. If you have ever been to TI, you would know kiting between Islands would be most unejoyable. But there are enough germans out there that will love this crap. go for it I say euro tools.

heres a thought, take that money, spend it on an awesome boat charter in PNG with in the loop or goto Cocos or Kitsurfari, Kite in pristine conditions, and then relax afterwards

If you've got nothing positive to say why reinforce your one eyed negative mindset, dont write anything, its obviously not your cup of tea, i know alot of people who would be excited by the challenge, not about the money at all, the uniqueness of this is pretty cool

Silly comment about we will train you, that worries me a bit, i would want to be around experienced fit kiters, good luck all, i am bloody tempted

That comment - in brackets & italics - was inserted as a pretty obvious tongue in cheek reference to the standard of kiter required for a 3 day kite trek across 200k's of water. Stated that way to highlight to interested cyclists & runners that if they dont kite they shouldnt consider this leg.
IT WAS A JOKE. I'll see that its deleted to avoid the confusion.

Didnt you get the serious one >>>>>
"Please note this is NOT an introductory Kite Expedition – some knowledge and flying time is essential before entering the Torres Strait – It is a wind and current tunnel and presents many challenges – All Kiters will be assessed before acceptance on the expedition."

As far as a team, or teams, from WA are concerned there will be at least one major downwinder planned once interested kiters make themselves known to ensure all potential candidates are suitably skilled.
Just now looking at the possibility of doing a Mandurah to Scarbs trek. Never heard of anyone doing this section of coast. Any local knowledge from sections of this coast line would be appreciated. If we do a marathon run like this it will be put out there to all comers to join in on the day as part of the fund raising for the Ecare 1000.

Always the knockers ready to pounce.
One sentence is giving some general advice about the possible kite sizes expected to be used on the days its on.
The other gives the range of wind that can be expected in the area at that time of year.
What would you expect any event organiser would do on a day that turned out to blow 40kts. Hmmm think hard - it might be a trick question.

because puppet is obviously trying to sell this and i think it's crap. Mega strong currents, some of the shortest (tightest frequency) sharpest chop you will find with waves that stand up against those currents -think knee/ waist high straight up a few meters apart, flukey winds around the islands, cloudy/ milky water with plenty of noahs and crocs.
Also the week long bike ride over all thos corregations on the gulf road might take their toll! organised by some turkey who has never been to either place I suspect. Most likely a german.

personally i think the idea is cool. The price is completely rediculous!

Also it appears to be geared more to the mountain biker. 700km of biking only 200 of kiting? you can easiliy kite as far as mountain biker each day.

but i love this adventure stuff there needs to be more events like it. perhaps abit more realistic. An epic downwinder for hundres of km down the aus coastline hitting endless surf breaks would be sweeter.

Just to clarify - this is strictly a not for profit event.
KSS involvement is also a no gain venture. KSS wont be receiving any money at all. Its all about the stoke - and of course about wanting to puff out my chest at the next BBQ auf weedersein einz danka frankenfurter
The proceeds are to help ECare build an orphanage in Lae. These are the people who saved hundreds of Aussie lives on the Kokoda Trail during WW2. Want to read about them - google 'fuzzy wuzzy angels'. Good cause to support.
The KSS wrecking yard will be sending all donations to this charity while this coral crossing is on our calendar of events.

Dont know what uv got against Germans myusername but I reckon your take on the area is way off. All reports indicate awesome kiting conditions at that time of year and it has been thoroughly checked out by the QLD based organisers.

He does have a point, any good kiting conditon will be around islands and reefs.
In the open ocean between these points will be very rough steep windswell on a bad day.

By the time you get to these good places you will probly be to stuffed to enjoy them, although it appears to be three day allocated for the 200k kite leg, with the wind up that way this will easily be achieved with plenty of down time at the overnight stops.

When people go missing up there they are not usually found

First 2 days is following shallow reef and crossings are all pretty much reef protected. Scenery should be mind-blowing if not pants-filling
Day 3 will be the interesting one. The longest leg and pretty much open water. Hoping for a steady 15 to 18kts on a big kite. Fingers Xed on that one.

Not missing much over here this year wdric
No 'Kite Surf SUP's in NSW but if you are interested you could apply off the website or PM me & I'll check if theres likely to be a NSW team. Be great to get some state rivalry happening to up the ante even more.

We looked into this a while ago, I think you will cross the shipping lane when you go around Fremantle, which I believe poses a public liability risk.

Maybe worth staying south of Fremantle?

North of Perth has the distance, but there were a lot of dodgy patches of reef and coastline that would be hard to access in an emergency.

Good luck

Sounds like an epic! Great trip!

But I hope they require a bit more than the "some knowledge and flying time" for kiters.

Also I hope the support cost is not "optional"

Lol at their wind / kite gear synopsis: 2 kites to cover winds from "12-40 knots range daily" - sure

Ive looked at the cost in the light of the inevitable criticisms Id get here.
It does seem to be; and is; a lot of bikkies for a few days but consider:
- fly out emergency guarantee
- lead boat and sweep boat
- 1 to 5 ratio jet ski support ie 4 jetski's with qualified drivers
- fly in fly out from Cairns
to mention just a few of the big ticket costs.
Forget the jokes about 'training you to kite'. The kite leg is by application only and all applicants will be thoroughly screened to ensure every place getter is up to the task which is in no way being under-rated.
To me its an adventure of a lifetime. One not to be missed regardless of cost.

As mentioned this is a not for profit, charity driven event which is being organised by a very experienced team of extreme adventurers.

Bad idea Already thought of this but firstly you would have to go around the back of Garden island due to the big ass bridge from point peron to Garden island which is ok but i'm sure someone would be unhappy with kites crossing the main shipping lane into the sound.

Plus you would then have to navigate the entry to the harbour at fremantle port which would again upset some as you're crossing a major shipping channel.
From there on up its good.

Better one would be Leighton to Lano. I think youngie has done the Scabs to Lano run.

Yeh Leighton to Lano would be good except for emergency landings. May end up with a big walk to the road.
Good thinking on the warnings.
Might look at Mandurah to Shoalwater - what does the jury say on that option.
About that Garden Is bridge ? Every time I see I think "could it be done?"
Big speed run - kite low - cut close to an upwind pillar? Hmmmmmmm
Definitely irresponsible but .........

Having only seen this from a distance, but if the road is not often used and has good beach access either side and is not very wide with no fences or other road barriers, is it possible to just kite up to it and walk over with kite and board, jump in and keep going so you dont have to go all the way around the island?
