Yeah a couple of drinks would go down well after this , I think I caught a virus at the council, for some sick reason "WASKA" is now stuck in my head.

LMAO
(amazing how many things one person can manage to get wrong hey!)

WASKA that'd have to mean
the "West Australian Successful Kiters Association"

But seriously (Im still sooo buzzing) it may have required a massive group effort from all parties to get over the line but the Mullaloo outcome represents a major victory for all thats good in life. Common sense, fair play, justice, civil liberty, the democratic process etc etc etc.
Every kite beach in WA (and beyond) can breathe a huge sigh of relief. The beach access precedent is now reinforced on a logical, sensible and fair playing field. It could have gone very badly the other way.
Every beach access issue that arises from Tues 14th Sept 2010 onwards will now be a far simpler case for KSA's everywhere to present and defend.

The AKSA/WAKSA determination to negotiate 'exclusion zones' rather than the dreaded 'designated zones' has just been dealt a very sweet hand.

Stoked !!!! Great news glad to see people can be people and common sense prevailed here. Good stuff!

Nice to see the surf club in favour of us, wasn't expecting that.
Now maybe time to adopt usual local surfers rules, have your fly line knives handy for the idiots that don't care to listen to local rules.

Shame about Cottesloe no toy cars WTF??? when will it end?

Hi All,

I really want to say a BIG thanks to the Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club. We must work so hard to keep these guys on our side. From listening to the councillors it seems like about 2 out of 3 of them are members or ex members. Make absolutely no mistake if these guys hadn't been decent and reasonable we would be gone.

This certainly is a good outcome for us. But lets keep it that way. Lets be super nice to the life guards and keep any newcomers to the beach on the straight and narrow so we don't get banned.

If anyone has contact details for the president of MSLSC please post as I would really like to send my personal thanks to her.

Thanks - WAKSA and MUGS and all those guys who came from far and wide to represent us and lend support.

WAKSA, Dave, MUGS and everyone that was envolved, Thankyou!

My thoughts....
I definitely think signage would be a good idea.

In particilar outlining
no launching upwind in close proximity of beach users
No parking of kites/lines overhead of beach users.

Just what we need on the beach ...^^^
another stupid sign. haaha
To the MUGS at Mullaloo,
Want to avoid bans ?
Kite way offshore and get-out-of-their-face.
Buy your wife or girlfriend some binoculars.
lol.

^^^Soo much mention on WAKSA I wondered when dipsh!t was going to chime in, although I had kind of given up seeing him. Surely even he couldn't find a negative angle on this one!? Seems I was wrong.

EDIT: Speaking of which what ever happened to that old guy in VIC who used to kite out in the middle of the bay all gadgeted up.

Nope, I'm still hanging around, Monkeybrains. ^^^

Do the MUGS at Mullaloo even know why kiters are despised so much ?
...So contemptible as to be threatened with bans.
It makes you wonder, hey ?
I know the reason ... but I'll leave it to you guys to try to figure out the answer.
So, why are Mullaloo kiters hated so much ?

I'm so stoked about the WAy Waksa and AKSA has evolved since we first set it up so many years ago (AKSA). This was always the vision, because it was obvious that our sport took up a bit of room and that we were the new kids on the block.

WAKSA is an outstanding group of people, it took patience and dedication to the needs of everyone to pull off this excellent result. Obviously there are open minded and sensible people at the Council too.

Its the numbers of kiters that WAKSA represent that give it the power to convince all authorities that have the power to curb our free enjoyment of the sport we are all so passionate about, to give us some room to play in too.

This result, should finally convince all active kiters to get an application in to their local state association and become a member of AKSA.

I've recently had a meeting with Rockdale City Council here in Sydney and exactly the same things are being said about kiters and kiting. We are on the radar and we must join our state assoc, just to add our membership as a vote to convince the authorities that we are a pro-active and powerful sporting group.
Like Darren said though we are also now on notice to clean up our act, do everything you can in your area to make sure kiters act responsibly and stamp out the dangerous look at me antics that happen 10M off the shoreline.

Well done to everyone involved in this decision.

(I only read the first page) Could we also have the contact details for the Mullaz SLSC guys please?

I'd really like to thank them personally too - I think they've done great to work together with kiters given the reported transgressions that have occurred in the past.

Or just pass on my thanks, and also on behalf of Scarborough Kiters.

BTW, I've written to the Joondalup Councillors and included the following lines in my thank you note:

I believe this sets the precedent much needed for our new and increasingly popular sport - in future, I'm certain the community will look back and recognise this as a major milestone in our sport's history.

This of course applies to all the crew (WAKSA, individual kiters, etc etc) who've contributed to this - BIG THANKS people. This is so significant in saying: we're legitimate beach users like everyone else and must be considered as such.

Cheers,
Shan.

It is also worthwhile noting here that; while it may be the "outcome we wanted"; it is only the 'one we wanted' because what WAKSA & MUGS proposed (wanted) was the most reasonable, safety conscious and sensible compromise that could be put together as the official WAKSA & MUGS submissions.
(Id hate anyone reading this to think that 'waska' is getting its own greedy way)

The exclusion zones look very expansive on the map (to those who dont know the area) but the Mullas Surf Club zone is a very sensible no go area. And if there is a congregation of swimmers in front of the northern carpark, or the flags are up there, then that too is a commonsense no go zone.
Those who know the beach would, and already do, follow these guidelines anyhow. The signage will help to alert those who may not.
And they will help the locals to self regulate the visitors.

Thanks Monkeyfish! Good to have an MLSC member here on the forum. Juddy passed me some email contacts too but I'll save filling their in-box as you'll pass on the message.

I would encourage all kiters to drop a quick note of thanks to MLSC through Monkeyfish (hope that's ok?).

NB: See also other post - please get back in touch with us if any issues arise.
