claimed wind range for 12m is 10 to 34 knots, im a bit heavier so i can only go upwind in 13 knots. i ride with guys that are going upwind in 10 knots on a 12m we still kite over 30knots with the same kite. im not bullsh1ting

i said ive used it under 10 knots for land boarding. that was just in reply to harrys claim that kites wont fly in under 10.

im 90kgs so 13 knots will get me going and keeping ground, on a 126x40
guys i ride with are more like 70kgs and they go upwind in 10 knots

id like you to see it in action.

Lets not be misleading here, you can be close to hold down a 12 meter in 30 kts in almost every brand these days in the rights conditions, with the right skills, ie low pressure system, flat water, 35 I would say yes as well, but I would definately not call it "kitesurfing" when all you do is pull down on the bar to jump. And your in a position where you cannot unhook or wave ride... which you can't do in that sort of wind on a 12 unless your riding a slow moving monster of death wave.

and I've been kiting upwind in 4-6 kts on my 08 vegas 12, with 6 kts of current .... lol.

If your going upwind in 8 kts without any current assisting you, with a 12 your saying you "ride" in 35 kts of wind, you are something special.

Sounds mighty similar to claims of the mysterious Best SHmellfish..

Just sounded a little mis-leading when a guy is asking for advice on what to upgrade, someones definition of what the top wind speed a kite is capable of. I still find it hard to believe, The problems with big kites in high winds is this, just like the problems boats have with big sails in high wind .. and that is it doesn't matter how much you sheet off, there is soooooo much drag caused by the windspeed blowing over the large 12 surface. No kites have a reducing surface, so then the problem is the only thing that is fighting against this drag, is the tension on the lines , and the rigidity of the canopy and struts to hold that force....

So as the windspeed increases you need to pump your bladders up harder for them to support the canopy without letting the canopy distort.

For a 12 to go out in a true 30 kt ( strong ! ) winds , it would have to be pumped up rock hard, there would be lots of tension in the lines, it would be hard to go upwind because of all the extra drag on the kite ( hard compared to 15 kts ), and if you unhooked to use the kite or did sharp turns through the window.... well, i wouldn't be excited about doing it! That's why I wouldn't go out in it.... would you bother doing it again today if you still didn't have your nine?

mmm, I guess I am interested that there is a 12 that supposedly kites upwind in 8 - 10 and is fine in 30 - 35 kts according to the manufacturer.... what happens when you pull that bar all the way in when it's 35 kts? and would you classify this as safe?

i can confirm that my 12 hydra really has a big windrange.
i use it with 10knts to +25 so far. i just need to go on a really windy day
to confirm the 30knts but i guess it is possible.
this is my one kite quiver now.
i was kiting with that kite when others were on 7m....

Yeh - decent turning speed would be nice.

I love the agility of my old 2005 9m C - suits me fine. I actually have had it set on the slower turning option and only recently been tempted to go the faster option. Fast but predictable is nice. My 13m i have set on fast and it aint that's for sure.

Point taken on the 10m option as largest for the SB (or most bows I spose) due to the power/size differance for bows.

i am very pleased with it so far. even the quality is very high.
also good that it comes with a launching and landing bag.
the bar is top notch too with 20 meters and 5 extra.
the only thing i changed is the quick release, to a push away one.
try it to believe it.
i am convienced now.

dont get a sb3 if you dont want pullys. the things got 8 on the kite end alone.
there are kites out there that have a simple bar, no pullys, 100% de-power and a wind range of 13 to 34 knots at your weight. im just not sure weather you can get genetrix gear in WA.

untrue...sb4 has 8 pulleys. SB3 12m turns slow, but the 10m and under are good.
sb4 12m turns fast but

YEP the switchy is SLoooow to Turn, I am 98kg and ride a SB111. Don't know about 8 Pulleys though. I've had mine for a year and I only have 2 pulleys (Guess I got ripped of Hey!) Sh*** where are those other SIX pulleys??????

why the red thumb? all I am saying is the sb3 does not have 8 pulleys. It has none as far as I can remember. Nice kite - grunty, stable and very durable. Just the 12m does turn a little slow especially if used to c's. I think if you are getting a new and a 2nd hand kite i would spend the cash on the bigger kite.

also ss t3's are cheap...you could get two kites and one bar

The red thumbs are any easy explanation...this thread was hijacked by two kite pimps pushing their own brand...have a look ....ALL their comments pushing their kites get green thumbs and every other comment mentioning another brand ( not just Cabrinha ) gets red thumbs. AMATEURS !!!!!

You guys know who you are ....try to remember in getfunkys original question he asked for UNBISASED opinions.
It is fine to push your own brand but in doing so refrain from bagging [b]all others ...especially with untrue comments !!! in the end it reflects poorly on you guys and you dont really do your brand any favours either.

PLenty of other guys push their own brands or the brands they stock on the forum but they do it in a professional manner without bagging other brands


I mentioned SLINGSHOT REV and CABRINHA SB's and get red thumbs from them as well....... both kites are highly highly regarded for what they do

Ooops.. I just realised I forgot to add that I didn't have the oportunity to play with the (apparently) infinate set-up options to tune the turning/bar feeling.

I did use the middle settings (as far as I was told) so based MHO's on that.

Gawd.. wifey rang to say that the car had broken down last night (listen carefully and you can hear at least one shiny new kite flying over the horizon). Am bracing for another financial kick in the nurries today.
