Hi All,

I purchased the Underground 122 FLX double concave this season and am finding it great in the flatter water and small chop but in the bigger swells I keep nose diving and having some pretty big crashes.

So two questions

1. Is it technique and if so what do I need to change?
2. Is it the board and if so is there something I can modify to make it better?

Thanks

a 122 is a really small board for waveriding, the end of the board is not far above the surface of the water which would make it nosedive easily.
try shifting your weight more onto the back foot when you are on the wave.
i ride a 132 double concave flx and find it great for down the line big surf

i found the same thing with a couple of 123-125cm boards, the problem has gone away with my new 130cm. as stamp said 122 is damn short and i doubt you can do much to avoid the annoying problem of nose diving.

Hey Snowman,
I just started riding an FLX 32 and on my first session i was having the same problem. I bigger board will probably help more than anything. but i just changed my binding stance. ( more toe out on each foot like a duck stance ) worked for me the very next session no more problem. It seems to make you put more weight on the back foot.

i ride a 122 95% of the time and the best advice is; get your feel for the board, slash it around at the rear and keep the nose up by adjusting weight to the back foot.
the worst thing about the nose dives is you look like the biggest kook out there.

I have to agree that I feel like a complete kook again going along just fine enjoying myself then nose dive crash just like a kook then up again jumping and cruising and then splash. Never happened on my 132 but at 57kg that had other issues…

Will put more effort into the back foot thing, I have a bow kite so I guess I have gotten a little lazy with the edging

shorter is harder to ride, especially in chop.

Get lazy and rest more on your back leg and the problem goes away to a certain extent...
