Best solutioin for a SW in Sydney during the winter is a plane ticket to North Queensland.

My theory on the lack of wind at Narra is that it has hills directly behind it. This makes the wind kind of jumpup over the beach. At Palm beach it is genreally 5 knots stronger in noreasters because the pitwater is right behind it, so there is nothing to slow the wind down. Its the same at the enterance on the central coast when compared to wamberal.
Its very flat around kurnell, dolls pt with nothing to slow the wind down there which is why the wind is also strong there. Also makahas(off long reef)is usually much stonger than Narra with no hills behind it. This also explains why Fishermans is also stonger than narra in noreasters, as the wind funnels straight over to dee why right over the lagoon.

Hey Tom there's a Fishermans beach crew coming down tomorrow en masse, I didn't realise you had moved away! dunno where we are all going to launch from but I'm sure we'll meet up (I'll bring some cold ones). BTW Fishermans today was a peaceful place where you could light a candle and generally relax on the beach...hehehe (I love the NB's really)

Yeah,Botany Bay gets great wind conditions.

Couple of problems though.

Launching and landing a lines length from a 6 lane freeway !

Polution.

There is an underground water table that leaches into the bay. This has been contaminated with toxins and Dioxins from a chemical plant.

The deadly contamination is headed slowly and inexoribly towards the Bay.There is NO way of stopping it.

So,if you see kiers with 6 toes and no teeth, hair etc. you will know that they are Botany Bay regulars.
Come to think of it,that pretty much describes them anyway !

Hey Barnzy,

WHo's comming? Yesterday I took Rob over to Towra - solid 20-25knots with some 30 knot gusts for sure. Was magic.

I've found a great spot to launch which means a trip to Towra is a straight trip straight across the bay - no tacks. (way back took 2).

The 5th carpark you can drive in - counting from the bridge at the Novatel.

I'll try and rally a meeting a point - its already green arrows at 9am @ the airport.

I'll be there around 2pm.

:-)

I heard that wind has actually been banned at Palm Beach and Newport on the northern beaches, so don't even concider it as a riding location!

Mission to Towra

From any point along brighton or Dolls you will see kiters on the North Eastern side of Towra. they will be very small from brighton and if you launch there you will be going downwind a lot to get there.

From the 5th Carpark from the novatel - you can get there moreorless in one line, and on the way back to small tacks near the shore.

From Dolls - there are about 3-4 tacks involved - depending on current.

Tide should be perfect around 3.30-4pm at Towra - and should be covering the sandbanks with about 3 inches to a few feet of water to create sandbank jumps and speedrun alley's. Great spot to practise tricks, high speed carves and jumps in full control.

See you there! I'll be flying the red/black griffin.

Missed you Tom (I had a nightmare getting down there (nearly 2 hours)what with the truck in the tunnel incident at 4:30pm) (and I can't even kite at the moment cos I've done me shoulder.) I gather you met up with Chris and Rob though. We all stayed down at the Brighton end.
See Em's comments in the "Driving to Botany bay from north beaches" thread.
