We have been watching your thread very closely since it began.
The idea of a Scarborough Beach Kiter Group was raised at the WAKSA AGM back in April where it was considered by some present as a necessary priority for WAKSA attention. Ian Grose, from Airborne Kitesurfing, offered his shop as a possible venue for a meeting which was to be advertised to members and the kiting public before the issue was taken any further. The new committee decided that, due to possible lack of interest during winter, this matter would be better addressed once the season got underway. We were about to do just that. We have already opened a Scarborough Beach User Group section within the forum on www.waksa.org.au in anticipation of this action.

Given the impetus suggested directly by our membership; and now combined with the interest shown in your independent action; it is obviously "time". Your planned beach meeting on Sunday 23rd Nov can be fully supported by WAKSA as our response to your call, as well as our response to the original motion from the AGM. As 'Green Pat' noted we do have a short downwinder planned for that day which was already to be centred around Brighton. To combine a meeting at the conclusion of that event would be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Short downwinders are specifically designed to allow for maximum participation so it should attract the largest participation rate of any WAKSA event - skill wise - hence more at the meeting.

WAKSA can assist by putting on the traditional BBQ at the completion of the kite from Floreat or City Beach.
We can include details of the concerns and the meeting along with the downwinder details on our website 'events' news.
We can have reps in attendance who can offer feedback from actions taken on previous areas of concern - eg Cott. Pelican Pt. & Melville etc.
We can offer first hand & organisational support to establish a permanent kiter group at that location - if this is requested by the meeting.
We can offer funding for any initiatives we feel are in accordance with our mandate to protect beach access.
We see support of positive, kiter initiated actions from meetings of this type as the core responsibility of WAKSA.

With more direct consultation we can put together a schedule and agenda for your meeting which can be published here on Seabreeze as it falls into place. We can also advertise the event on the WAKSA website and include full details in a mailout planned for this week.

NB: It should be noted that WAKSA has no agenda of its own in these situations. We are offering support for local kiters, not a formula or an attitude other than promotion of kite safety & maintaining access everywhere possible.

Getfunky; hopefully you will be able to attend and voice your opinion, I think it will definetly be a point that will be raised, but we will see what everyone else has to say on the matter and hopefully we can all come to an agreement that will work for all beach users,

OK, I counted about 14 individuals on this thread including Jeffsan (SLSC) who would be Scarbs kiters. If this affects you at all and you haven't posted a reply, please do!

Im keen to see something happen, because it's only a matter of time before some makes a stuff up and stuff's it up for every one .

Pat is on the money (er.. except the crack about Perf being in the 80s - clearly we have made it to the early 90s). Scabs area just had new rules allowing 12 story developments passed this week. Watch them pop up like Sunday morning barker's eggs onya lawn.

Take some snappies of the Scabbies area now because in 3-4 yrs you probably won't recognise the place at all and the crowds will no doubt be much, much thicker (and numerous too ).

Move now and establish good will and behaviour in the area and we may have somewhere to kite in a few years. Let it slide and there is no way the chips will fall in our favour.

I reckon we need to get passed the warm fuzzy meetings and onto something concrete in direction before the end of this season.
