Had the plastic safety release crack in half second time out on my Slingshot Compstick. It's a 2014 but never used before.
Anyone else had probs with Compstick gear?

instead of calling it slingshot compstick gear call it what it is and that would be "plastic" so if your after a solution or a fix find out exactly what type of plastic it is and if it can be glued or plastic welded. also shoot thru a photo and email to slingshot theyll have a good idea what to do. chances are it didnt break from your sesion but was weakened before that session transport storage tend to be the usual culprits

They call the plastic thingy a butter box (god knows why )
Must've been a Monday job at the factory
cheap to fix though if you can find an ozzie stockist

Hey mex, post a pic up, is it split up the side above the clam cleat? now self releases under load?

The 2011 - 2013 butter box (BB) had a small design issue, it is put down operator error- some people when repowering, let the rope out very fast, caused the hard plastic stopper end to hit the butter box and split it, this can happen from brand new, easy to replace part and fairly cheap but hard to find new parts in oz, maybe try second hand parts at some of the bigger kite dealers

The 2014 had a different, better, more beefer up BB design, if it is a 2014, its the first ive seen or heard that failed

If you can cover the stopper end in a foam cover it wont happen again, I found using an old slingshot neoprene bar stopper cover was the perfect size

Doesn't it only happen on the 2011 bars that don't have the rubber hose that the prevents the plastic tab smashing the butter box? 2012 was fixed with hose to cushion when releasing depower, then new butter box for 2014 bars...just wondering?

Happened to me only a month ago with an unused older bar.
I think I released the safety four times before giving up and swimming in.

It was only after I got in that I found the split.

I've never had any drama with my 2014 comstick bars. Before they added the little black bit of tube above the depower rope knob thing I had it trigger the safety once but that was the 2012 or 13 compstick. Maybe best to hit up Slingshot Australia for a answer.
