Was out at St Kilda today for the first time, they have to be kidding with the water down there. Had to body drag back to the board a few times and threw up on one occasion after a mouthful of water, is it always like it was today, or was it just some pedicular conditions today.

St Kilda is always a bit scummy but I was out yesterday and it was not that bad - don’t go down there after a big rain/storm its bad for you health!
Throwing up seems a bit extreme, even for St Kilda water, how much did you have to drink the night before?

if you're going to drink the water at StKilda, you had better chew it first... otherwise the syringes and dog turds will stick in your throat.

Snowman:Nothing to drink the night before and I'm not a fussy person at all, normally have an iron gut, will drink or eat anything. I was trying to dial in the 9 tribal I was on and it just wasn't coming together, so I was in the water a fair bit. If that was a good day, i'd hate to be there on a bad day. Most of my kiting has been a point Henry (Geelong) and you get the,” odour la stink weed", but at least it's organic (plant).

Azza: You might be right az, I may have copped a turd, I'll make sure to chew next time

Unfortunately dopple yesterday was a good day down at StKilda, the water always tastes like crap, not much circulation in the marina, when it rains its best not to kite there for a few days!! The wind was pretty sweet yesterday hardly gusty at all, and best of all no one was on it!! Will probably be at the point wednesday or thursday if you're keen.

I must have got a mouthful of something, the throat has only just cleared up.

From your observations Gilly, or anyone else that was at St Kilda on Sunday, what the Fk was I doing wrong with that 9 Tribal(red and black)?. Considering the wind strengh, I had the kite set for full power and the straps on full power. Out in the chop, I just could't seem to set the kite, a few times in that flat wave area it all came togeather, but other than that, I was not having a good day.

I've got Wednesday off, will be at Point Henry, low tide 12.30, "bummer".

I was there for 10 mins yesterday after a downwinder from brighton.
I usually kite at dolls in Sydney. As we know its having its fair share of problems, but St Kilda is a zoo! The wind was full of holes after coming over the marina, some bloke crashed his kite hard on the sand next to two people, kite inverted, powered up and took off, the people had to hit the deck to avoid being taken out by the lines!
Hopefully a one off!
And yes the water was pretty gross, no worse than the rest of the bay though!

As i was packing up near the pier i saw some dude get slammed on the beach, not a good wind for beginners, a bit holey and gusty.

Steve where you were kiting there is a big wind shadow (on that sandbar) when you get to either side of it it becomes really gusty, if you had of come up where i was the wind is a lot cleaner, I was actually surprised how clean it was considering it wasn't a seabreeze. I will be at Brighton on Wednesday for a kite if you want to come there or Point henry on Thurs?

Don’t you guys have to work!! So unfair L

I think I saw you guys on the downwinder as I was leaving – I was wondering who was kiting on the outside of the marina. As you come around the marina there is a huge hole in the wind – where did you guys leave from?

When we turned up at about 11:30 there was a couple of guys being given a lesson – the poor guy was getting slammed all over the place 8m kite and learning to body drag. Well at least by the end of the lesson he was able to let go of the bar to depower when his kite hit the beach!

Snowman: I started setting up down there about 12 ish, I was on a 9 Tribal (red/black), Red 137x38 stonker, black/yellow Cabrinha seat harness and weigh around 80 kg. Whilst setting up, there were a couple with some crossbows (I think) that had just set up and a guy had a boost/drag on launch and was lucky to stop before the wall. I was kiting in the chop area for most of day, not realizing there was that nice little flat/wave area to the left of the launch area, got in there towards the end of the day and things started coming together a bit, left around 5 I think.

Freeferty: I think you guy's were just coming around the marina just as I was packing up and I was discussing with another kiter why we didn't think to do the same. I basically started kiting in February and I've never kited in the bay west of Geelong. I've kited at Sandy Point (shallow inlet,) Point Henry, Pt Danger, Breamlea, Portarlington ect and was really surprised by the condition of the water at St Kilda.

I had a session on a 9m Best in the morning and then another in the afternoon (quick trip home for lunch in between). Was a sensational day wind wise. Really enjoyed it.

You are all definitely right re: flat water part - is very nice this time of year. Wait a couple of weeks - and there will be loads of traffic on it though.

I was very surprised that the instructors were teaching (particularly in the morning) as the wind was quite strong - gusting 35 knots at times.

All in all - good day

That was me and my partner with the crossbows, I was on the grey 9m and I came off the water around 1:30 as the wind picked up too much for me. My partner then took my kite out – he is about you weight and using a 132 board the kite was on full depower on the knots and a little on the depower strap. You may have been a little overpowered but probably not.
The chop can be quite hard - it you were wiping out a lot it could have been that you were not pointing into the wave/chop enough eg catching the chop/wave on the side of you board this happened to me a lot while I was getting used to the chop especially when turning or at st kilda coming back.
The flat water by the pier is good, the wind is more consistent, but on a nice day in summer it is crowded like the rest of the beach and the advanced guys hang out there and will get annoyed if you are crashing lots – not saying its right but…

Snowman:I'll come and introduce myself next time, I think you and your partner parked in front of me. I was having problems setting the kite, it seemed to be getting to far forward of stalling, and I felt underpowered for most of the time (?) and was going to pump up the Switchblade. I'm normally on the 12 Switchblade and it was only the 2nd time in good winds that I've had the Tribal out. I'm going to Point Henry tomorrow and if I get a chance to get it out, I'll asked some experience kiters if they can watch and give feedback if it's not coming together.
Matto: I think I'll be staying away from St Kilda, I dont mind driving to get to spots and enjoy the big blue.
I wondered about the learning in those conditions also, it seemed to under control though.

I would wait until the afternoon if possible for the 15-20 S to SW winds then you have the choice of St Kilda or Brighton. I a assuming that you are close to the city? If you want to go out during the NW then I would suggest either Brighton (int+ to adv only in a N) or Carrum.

Friday
West to southwesterly wind 10 to 15 knots tending northwesterly at around 10 knots during the morning. Wind then tending southwest to southerly and increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon. Waves half a metre, rising to 1 metre in the afternoon.
