I have been told by my instructor Nick: “if anything scary happens: PULL THAT SAFETY THINGY!”)
I think she's already had lessons from the sound of it.
Vanessa,
1) We've all made bone headed mistakes in the past, yours was a bit more "eventful" than most but don't give up because of it
2) Attach that leash! It should be the first thing you do when you pick up your bar
3) Botany might not be the best place at the moment for you.
Distance is your friend and you should be allowing yourself space for mishaps. It might be an idea to drive north or south on a weekend for your kiting sessions, and find a more open and less busy area (with a friend or two in tow of course

) It will be safer and less stressful for you and those around you

Check the NSWKBA website for some beginner friendly spots.
I'm also glad no one was hurt
