Some interesting points of view! .. let's remember to keep this topic on topic .. anybody abusing anybody simply will be immediatelly suspended!

...and I'll tell your mum on you, and you'll only be allowed to kite in crowded areas

We do downwinders - awesome way to avoid crowds & have an awesome day out.

Just to get it all into perspective, we probably live in the most unpopulated world per square mile of livable land. Imagine kiting in India or China or any Asian country if it was not cost prohibitive. Seriously, there is an abundance of coast line, what we are saying is "I hate the fact my favorite spot is crowded", there are a million other spots around totally uncrowded, obviously they won't be as good, but thats the sacrifice we make to kite or surf in less crowded waters.

Part of the reason we don't go to uncrowded spots is because no one is out, this happens in surfing all the time, you rock up to some point break that you haven't surfed before and no one is out, you are by yourself and more often than not you drive on. If there was someone in the water you would of paddled out.

When I was in Tassie recently i didn't go out at 4 mile because no one was on the beach, the wind was cross off-shore and the swell was 6 foot, but the fact that if i got into trouble i would of pretty much been hoping those kayakers would of saved me!!

Fair enough.

It is interesting to note that most of the negative/moronic replies are from relatively newer guys/newbies or forum tragics. The same guys that have brought this forum down. Goes to show you what sort of people kiting now attracts.

so let me get this right.

the guy who started this off with a big girly whinge is now whinging that other people are whinging along with him(and or)against him.

and this whinging is bringing the forum down?!?!

forum was fine last time i looked..............except for all the whinging!

Nicely put (or was that questioned) Greenleader!

Perhaps the source of this issue can be traced back to the 7 BILLION odd souls that are overcrowding the round spinning thing we are all standing on??

My vote goes to Anti Hype though!!

Good thinking Steve. We need to try making kiteboarding as uncool as possible.

One potential option to uncrowd your spot is to order a mankini from ebay and kite with it at the local beach. Provided you haven't waxed your ass, the site of a big hairy man wearing a boris style mankini while kiting should be enough to scare off even a desparate kiter and should definitely reduce the kewl factor if people are led to believe that is the standard dress code. May have some issues in Sydney though without some of the pink brigade starting to pay you more attention on the beach if you're not into that sort of thing but thats the price you have to pay for uncrowded beaches.

The alternative would be to position fake manequins holding fake cameras with long looking lenses at other beaches. That will result in the shows ponies frequenting these beaches to try pull their tricks right in front of the camera (I never understood that, why would you want some completely random unknown person taking pictures of you anyway?) and fighting for space and maybe they'll take each other out in the process.

Kiting is not a sport for crowds.

I agree, I dont know what the answer is, I managed to start a coastie on sat and sun from a crowded spot and got away unharmed . there is always a bit of carnage in the crowded areas.

fortunately there is still plenty of room left on the ocean within 10min of home for me!

I rekn it is best just to find good times to go kiting.

I'm still on holidays waiting for uni to start. Went out from 10am til 2pm on narrabeen today, I was the ONLY kiter out there, I had the entire beach to myself , so its much like the traffic; timing counts for a lot!

I find that if there are two windy days in a row, then it's also best to go out on the 2nd day, as everyone usually rushes in on the first day and are too tired to have looong sessions on the second day.

To be honest, I like it when there are least a few other kiters around, it makes me feel safer coz we can look out for one another

Anti-Hype probably would work. Also about the bowkites making it easier to get into then yes definantly, but most people haven't a clue what a bow kite is until they are ready to buy some gear anyway! I was contemplating kiting for around 3 years! I just wanted to finish my HSC first so I had the time.

Down winders are the way to go if and when possible, think the main problem stems from limited launch zones not so much limited water space, people like to launch all at the same location for convenience as well as safety and in some instances due to local regulations stating so. The problem is once launched and out on the water people tend to stick to the location they launched from and it ends up being a cluster of kiters with 1 k either side of them kiteable. Not all beaches like this of course as some have flags and stuff in which case isn’t much you can do with the limited time people have these days to get a quickie sesh in to go looking for a less crowded spot.

Yup it will get more congested, but there will be a limit I think to that congestion... the limit being to the point of a couple of accidents (unfortunately) and that area may thin out again. Can’t be fun dodging kites at a congested beach and people kite for the enjoyment of it.

Some of my best sessions have been solo!

It's all about courtesy to each other, learner or pro, busy or empty. I have kited a really busy spot one day when everyone gave way to each other and it was great fun to interact with each other, and another day, same spot, same numbers, with 1 or 2 dimwits/selfish b#stards and it was a horrible session.

License/rego seems a good idea, how to enforce it will be a challange- with diving you need your card to get tank fills, not sure how it would work with kiting. Even licensing cant create courtesy, look at the roads!!!

Do you know how to stop the chafe with the mankini, it is really starting to become a problem and as I know I am so hot wearing it I just have to find a solution. I can picture myself doing the pooman wearing it now, it is soo hot.
