a suggestion...
probaly aimed more so at choicey than regular kiters.
Perhaps some flags or signs are in order which say something along the lines of...
"kiters under instruction. please exercise caution".
you could possibly have it in a few languages too.

How many more languages do you need?? I think Choicey wavin a 10 ft oar around pretty much says it all!! From what I can gather these guys weren't gonna be influenced by any sign in any language, they had already had the "excuse-me" line and ignored it. Unless your really into confrontation I can't see how to fix the arogant few, that will do what they want, no matter what.(both locals and tourist) I just stay outta thier way and hope that they don't hurt anyone else... What else can ya do??

I dont kite there much but I can't understand why there should be a school operating at such a popular spot on a crowded day. The argument might be that he was there first, but the sport has changed in the last 2 years with more people, obviously good kiters are drawn to the better spots. The best spots will have the best kiters, and it makes sense that like any sport, the schools go to an area where there are not many people.

The schools are the commercial enteprises making money from the sport, I would feel pissed off if I was told I couldn't use the best bit of jumping area or whatever because someone is banging the kite into the water in that area paying the owner $80 /hour. If i go to water ski at deepwater point, I dont expect to see the ski schools in the crowded launch area..they go soemwhere else.

Maybe the euros were deliberatly hassling the newbies, i dont know. Just seems that its a funny place to be teaching.

Tiki you are missing the point. Woodmans point is by far the best and safest place to learn. Where did you learn to kite? In the shore break at Scarborough because you got kicked out of the best area? Don't think so. Also the southern side that Choicey does his lessons is not the side that gets crowded anyway. If you have see him teaching there you would know this. It isn't hard to see him teaching and stay away from them. Give the learners right of way just like you would have liked to be given right of way when you learnt.

i had 3 lessons with choiceys school - all on the north side. I dont know any of the details so i'm not siding with anyone , but there is definatly a problem when 'L' platers and pros are trying to surf the same spots.
It sounds like Choicey was trying to make the beach a safer spot for everyone, and took the job on single handly . Hopefully next time all the kiters get together and politely point out the way home to the careless kiters - and maybe with a kick in the @r$e to help them on there way ... just kiddin" ,not condoning violence in this free lovin" sport!!!

Tiki, as an experienced kiter you should be good enough to avoid newbies instead of complaining they get in the way. If you are not, perhaps you should talk to Choicy about some lessons!!!!
Mate, to complain that beginners get in your way is just purile.
Never had this issue in windsurfing, the more experienced keep well clear of the schools and tend to give newbies loads of space.

? I didnt say I am annoyed at newbies getting in my way? What are you on about?

Im saying that i am surprised IF a school for kitesurfers is operating in an area where a lot of people kitesurf. And I also suggested that the visitors concerned cant defend themselves so its a one sided argument.

Imagine if you went to Spain, jumped in the water and had a kitesurf, then someone came and yelled at you in Spanish, and next thing you are getting slammed in the spanish kitesurfing forum as arrogant aussies. Good ol friendly aussies. How can you make judgements on these people when you dont even know their side of the argument?

ahh forget it, you people down there are on drugs. Hope the locals where you go are friendly.

I've had a dabble..but it keeps making me use icons[}:)]

hmm i might sign up for a pole boarding lessons off simon and go.windsurfing.com. or else go on the windsurfing forum and join in the discussion there for no apparent reason.

Want advice on a kite? - get various commercial posts from various shops selling their product.

Have a discussion involving a kitesurfing school? - get slammed by a windsurfing instructor.

Hey tiki,
No offence meant, but Choicy is a mate, and does a great job promoting your sport. Seem to remember Choicy being down Woodies long before the crowds, so it is only resonable to give his lessons some space. There is heaps of space on the ocean for every one.
As for why a "Pole Dancer" is on a kitesurfing forum, well as an ocean user, about 8 hours a day, I get affected by kiters , especially when they buzz my pupils, so like to give your thread another perspective. By the way, i can kite as well, just choose not to at the moment.

in regards to euros not being able to defend themselves. they have no right when they want to come into our areas jumping windsurfers, fisherman and swimmers. these guys have no respect for local rules or the public. this happened at safety bay. just a bunch of guys with bad attitudes.
