Maybe the more newcomers to kitesurfing means lower prices and more competition with equipment sales.

I was out of town today at another beach and man the pleb ratio was off the charts. Maybe 80% pleb to 20% experienced guy.

I'm starting to realize that quite a few guys on here think they above everyone else!! Pull your head out your arse and let people enjoy the ocean without bagging them out

- the guy in boots just sitting at the waters edge for what appeared to be an age - getting in the way of launches / landings
- the guy who has to come in sooooo close to shore, again causing issues for landing and launching
- the mates - trying to land one of their kites, whilst his is still in the air
- the guy who can see someone walking up their lines and decides to lay his over theirs!!! and the list goes on, and on

I think I have done all of those in a row, with some boosting in the shallows close to shore, looping with people right behind me and then crashing right in the sweet spot and body dragging to get the board (should have had boots) and fk it up for everyone.

The good thing is I generally have a heap of room around me when I kite, as everyone knows I'm usually totally out of control. If I ever got good, I'd lose my room. haha

More hero's on here than in a comic book store!

seriously it sucks everywhere i go locally. its not untill you go to countrys with NOThING but wind that you find experienced kiters. which makes sense really people just try work pay off houses feed familys etc

Noobs, plebs, what about beginners? All other terms scream a superior egotistical mentality.

When I started kiting, the biggest thing I loved besides the thrill was the helpful attitude of just about everyone at the spot. It was a huge game changer to surfing. The guys I met, some are my best friends. And then Bow kites came along in 2006.

We were all beginners once, got so much good advice along the way and always pay it forward. Sometimes I even interfere if safety is concerned. If you dont like the ratio go to a different beach.
"Accidents" dont just happen, theres always causation in the preceding moments.

Anyway I in Perth I dont kitesurf on the river cause its full of bloody KOOKS

Depends where you go, popular flatwater spots near cities i reckon your 80/20 stacks up
Overhead and 30 knots and I am usually the only pleb
Would be interesting to get some stats on how many kiters actually graduate from mowing the lawn though
The drop out rate must be fairly high I would think?

A handle pass means your not a kook? Only if you froth on the freestyle stuff but that's only one part of kiting. Unfortunately I'm getting the feeling kiteboarding is going the same way surfing has. To many pretentious knobs trying to all be the cool kids . I'm out there for the fun ,blast a few turns on the waves tt or surfboard a cruise to the the outer reefs for a bit of time to myself. I feel sorry for everyone who has something to prove to the next guy doing dizzy wizzies. Have fun out there fellas and who give a crap what others think

The world seems to operate on an 80-20 ratio in everything. So at any particular beach there will be 80% of people with not much idea, and 20% that have an idea of what they are doing.

Thing is, the 80-20 ratio repeats indefinitely. So in the 20% of people who know what they are doing, 80% will be plodding along, more or less under control, and 20% will be ripping.

It gets further complicated by cross-wise ratios. In your 20% of rippers there will be a bunch of wake-style dudes who can handle pass, but can't ride upwind, so they're in the 80% of less than competent. The wave guys will rip on both tacks, but get lost in a forward roll. Then you'll get a race guy who can barely fly his kite and wobbles through gybes, but then turns upwind and disappears out of sight.

There's a number of experienced (generally older) guys down here who don't do any 'moves' of any sort, jump a little on a good day, don't handle pass..but they have very good kite control and you can kite with them without fear of anyone doing something stupid...I call them expereinced, advanced. Not trying to prove anything just kiting for kitings sake. most of them on SBs, couple on TTs just doing their thing.

We we do have a lot of kooks down here, who make me nervous at times, but hopefully over time the general riding ability will improve and a better standard set...once they have the kite and board control that only time on the water can provide.

I wouldnt say trying to be a spider monkey makes you advanced (Theres guys riding in an advanced way in all areas) But the risk factor for injury is defintelty the highest. And potential kite damage. Call it advanced potential for knees, ankles and shoulders to go.

You should be asking what the D%$%^head to nice person ratio is on this forum...I feel sorry for the newbies that come here and have to read these posts from dudes that think its their right to belittle people for learning a sport so they can shine their kite hero medal. Why not be at the beach helping some of the plebs become better kiters.
