Did the drive down on Monday and what looked to be too light turned out to be awesome afternoon of kiting...

I don't go here very often as I am all into the wave "fad", but enjoy the flat water fun and a little unhooking.

On Monday there was a number of schools teaching on the South Side (sensable), but one instructor was teaching on the north (flatwater) side, creating a danger zone when one tacks in to do your move... Of course most riders are quite proficient and stays somewhat downwind of this...

This appeared quite strange to me to have someone giving lessons in that premier location. Is this an exception, or pretty standard process?

This post is a reply to Carbine.

I was a little unhappy about your post, but slept on it so I could write with a fresh mind. On reflection, your post borders on flaming, but I am writing this assuming that you had good intentions when posting.

In rereading my own post I am reminded that the medium of text convey many different interpretations and emotions. As your post identifies me, it creates an image to the reader about me, based on the style of your writing.

This reply is stating why I think your comment was unhelpful overall and what in future could be more constructive. (once again, I assume your intentions were positive)

1) You only half answered my question. (Do they teach that side frequently yes. It seemed a bit strange (no answer)… I never insinuated the instructor was dangerous or did anything wrong in his technique.

2) Your style of writing indicated that you were quite unhappy with the way I rode there. You were close enough to see exactly what equipment I used, YET you never bothered to come and talk to me right then and there. I believe I am an approachable person. I spoke to a few guys on the beach, crossed to the other side a few times but no one mentioned anything to me about your view posted above. Too the untrained eye it may appear hypocritical to make such a posting after the doing nothing on the day. (don’t forget, I am not saying you wanted to do this, it is just the nature of forums and what may transpire from a posting)

** I am not discussing whether your viewpoint is accurate; These are matters of opinion, your physical vantage point and natural bias. Such a discussion would be pointless unless direct between us. My posting here relates to the positive use of forums to improve everyone’s kiting experience.

3) You found me on the forum. Rather than send me a message to indicate your thoughts, you posted it in a manner that could be seen as “putting him in his place” / showing him the way. Sadly this is much less constructive than sending me a private message and saying, you know, you could make everyone’s experience better by doing “this or that”

4) I sent you a personal message immediately after your post thanking you for highlighting a potential safety issue. I take safety seriously. I presented you with my point of view and kindly asked a few pointers from you on what I should be careful of (specifics) when back at Woodies. You still have not replied. I hope you do, but till then I will not know how to kite any different when down there, once again making the post pointless in improving the situation.

The great things about the forums is the ability to share experiences and improve as a community and as individuals. My reply post is aimed at looking at ways we can do it more effectively. As always, it is much easier to point at something than it is to pick something up… and we all do it.

Carbine, thanks for letting me know your point of view and look forward to meeting you the next time I am at Woodies. Your local knowledge will be appreciated to be shared in a constructive way.

... and poor relative I think you are right... a lot of crack in the air of late: Too much testosterone from not enough wind… Friday looks like it will sort it out!

Theres no analyzing to be done, Carbine just opened his Sphincter and dribbled some ****.

To answer your question it hardly ever, only when wind is real **** at river. Wasn't there that day but the instructor is almost what you could consider a local and knows how to keep out of peoples way.

GranG,

I hear ya point and props on a well constructed response.

Glad you slept on it

There has been a fair bit of SH#% been posted on these forums. This is mainly due to people not taking the initiative, to confront what they believe to be issues on the beach.

It is kinda pointless to go home and post on a forum that in a way inflames the situation, rather than dealing with it on the spot.

I encourage all to deal with things on the beach rather than use a forum that would be faceless and often pointless.

Superb come back in the face of fire GranG.
I take my hat off to you for that
Your calmly measured response highlights what I see as the greatest problem Woodies has; besides simply too many too close; that is EDUCATION.
There IS limited space but the regulars do know how the place can be used so that it works best, accomodating the most possible users at any one time.
Newcomers, regardless of attitiude, dont know. They proceed to put in their session almost always not wanting to upset or interfer with others but also almost always getting it wrong.
Lack of English of Euros is often taken by locals as arrogance or plain old 'couldnt give a rats' what you say anyway. English speaking touros are often shy or intimidated or both. I dont think either are necessarily cause for as much grief as is created here.
I realise that regulars are really sick of passing on the tribal law to visitors - esp given the variable responses received. BUT if you want Woodies to work then a strategy must be developed to achieve that end.
GranG is a more than competently skilled kiter. His tempered reply here is proof positive that if kiters know the rules they will, in most instances, be followed. Kite nos. at Woodies are only going to increase as the world recognises WAs awesome conditions. If locals want to make the most of this premium beach with as little frustration & agro as possible then its up to you to devise a strategy which gets the necessary info where it needs to go. Its up to you.
If it requires WAKSA involvement you need only ask (just so long as you dont expect the existing c'tee to do it all for you )

Cheers again GranG top work - & if you didnt go getting that drunk that you cant write down phone nos. correctly you'd be a top bloke all round ha ha ha

may be Mr. Bear - may well be.
Point is that it is up to us old f-cks to pass on the wisdom of our maturity to those less experienced in life skills.

NB: We are all top-sh1t-hottest as young f-cks [}:)].
But then we all put in years more practice learning more & more as we gain the maturity to realize that at best all we will ever be is 'competent'. DOH
Sad but true.
And some of us are too mature even for 'competent'

Hahahahahah!

Oh stop it ! This is fkn hillarious!

GranG comes on bragging about his "moves" and criticising a situation he is ignorant of. Then Carbine sets him straight. So GranG attempts to belittle Carbine by giving him an extended grammar lesson.
Carbine returns as good as he gets !

Oh,and for the record,I am all for setting people straight on a Forum.

Why should you have to spoil a good day at the beach by having to go through the traumatic experience of approaching someone to criticise their bevaviour. Its no fun, plus they may well tell you to "fock off"

What we need is for EVERYONE to read Forums so they know whats going on.
The only thing is ,it is easy on the Forum to refer to someone as "an idiot" or various other derogatory terms.Just remember to be polite, just as if you were talking face to face.
