I started off at 13 with only lessons from friends and a borrowed 10m kite from a mate. I regret not taking proper lessons because I did hurt myself badly a couple of times at the beginning but at the time there were no proper lessons where I was. Nowadays there are great lessons and gear available at a relatively affordable price. I had to work hard to buy crap old kit and my parents helped me out where they could as well. If your budget is small, that's okay you can definitely still get some working gear at a good price. My suggestion is to go slow, be safe, and ask your local kiters' advice on kit. Don't just get one opinion, get many. And spend as much time at the beach as you can. Launch and land kites. Be helpful. Be positive. People will want to help you out if you pay your dues and help them out. And never forget that if you relentlessly harass your parents they may help you out more!
