hoped i never had to try use it in a real emergency
+ u cant loose parts of it
+ cant shock load
+ not hard to put back together

- small thing that i couldn't see myself use if it were needed
- if 5th line is wrapped around it then i hope u have water down wind
- if sand gets in there...
- way to mechanical for use on a kite

i was worried about it but never had to use it while being teabagged towards the shore-gaastra pin was good when that happened yet you can loose it and i dunno what ya gonna do then (i found mine after 5 min of searching weed) + its hard to put back together.

Hi Marc,

I had to use it in earnest in 35 knots a few weeks ago when riding at Mullaloo in onshore winds. The kite luffed right in front of the surf club from around 12 o clock in very gusty winds and was looking to do a full power up in the middle of the power. I hit the trigger release about a nano second before the lines went tight and the bar and chicken loop sprung open and went flying up toward the kite.

It worked beautifully (thankfully) as I would been a dark smudge on the front of the club had it not opened properly. It was easy to find and activate as I only had a second to react.

This is why it is good to practice activating your safety quick release regularly so that in times like this one, when you are in need of instant escape, you react instinctively and quickly.

I usually check it and clean it before a launch in strong conditions by opening it and resetting it before launch just to be sure.

I rate it! If you dont fly Airush, you could easily look at a retrofit to your current bar as they are available as an individual item.

Good winds,

The trigger releases work a charm, as for sand getting caught in the mechanism, i got dragged up the beach on my stomach after falling off a mountain board, and it fired, literally FULL of sand. I think with the load put on these things, theyll fire regardless, dont quote me on that.... When their under load all you have to do is drag your hand down the chicken loop and your free. Personally, im happy with it.

lol
35 knots, gusty onshore winds.
Brick clubhouse in your face.
Luff at 12 o'clock high.
Yikes.

Lucky the lines were slack when you pulled the trigger.
Next time wait a few seconds for maximum loading so you can do a proper test.

But it looks dodge, too mechanical and a real tangle tool.

I have been using the trigger release for 3 months. had to pull it twice in anger so far, worked great. I much prefer it over fabric tabs and velcro releases. i could never get my fingers in them.

you dont notice the hardware when riding and ist no different to standard chicken loops for tangles when winding in your lines.

hello,
thanks for the feed back...
they test most of the release system in the german mag and it seems that some do need lots of strenght (30 to more kg) to be released when loaded.
the north iron heart seems to be the easiest one to release but they did not test the airush.
it make sense to test it but, most of the time, we do need it when the condition are bad and the kite fully loaded which is not really when we test it.
last year, out of ten or more releases, only 3 or 4 passed and where considered safe !
