hey Kaos, I am interested in board building, kite boards an/or sail boards. I can kite, am deffinatly interested in producing and testing, and marketing boards from the great W.A. but however I lack the knowledge of composite construction. But i am willing to learn, if you are willing to teach. i am a fast learner, i am a apprentice in the building trade (plastering) so i know that i need to watch an learn, and if i dont get it the 5th time round, a quick slap behind the head usually does the trick hahaha. so i guess if your interested, then i am keen for certain. up to you.

Cheers
Mike.

Hey Mike,

Rode the pimp daddy the other day while you were out on your newer, even lighter version.
Great board, good construction. The balsa looks cool.
If someone wants a board thats a bit different and is light as just check them out..(composite/PVC/UVA blah...blah). I gave it a good thrashing and its in one piece...
By the way... went to the factory.. Mike made a 9' mal. Jarrah tipped nose, epoxy balsa..... awesome

Kaos,

You missed the whole point. I just saying it's a risky venture.[}:)]

I build my own boards because I like doing it.
But if you want to make some money out of it don't flood the local market go overseas.

If you have cash to splash support someone in WA like Delta or Dean or a few of the other local guys.

I don't sell my boards simply because I don't want to take $ away from the locals dudes who know what they are doing and that's their only source of income. Most others have their day jobs or trust funds.

PS. Never broken a single board I've made using my hi-tech process. And I'm a big lad at 125Kg, use a 20m kite in 20 knots. Have not found a production board that lasts 2 months (and don't want to give the local lads a bad rap killing thier boards) so I make my own.

Finally
Check the attitude of your posts, you ask for advice and perspectives, then get agro ?

Gee would people really want to work with someone like that ?
[}:)]

If you can turn out board for $50 then go for it.

Shops, well they sell new kites and what go with new kites ?

big dassa . . theres no agro, if you read the question it was: " is anyone keen on board building? ". Not what is ply held together with, not how to conquer the globel kite board market or is a feasibility study needed to be under taken, to see if i should do somthing because i want to.
I have been building windsurfers, longboards and kiteboards all vacum sandwich, carbon, kevlar and epoxy for 6 years and run a successful business doing so; oh yeah i have a sail loft aswell and repair kites and sails , but i'm not sure if this qualifies me as a local dude who knows what he's doing.
The whole reason for this topic was to see if anyone wanted to learn how to build boards and nothing else .
Good to see you have made your own boards, isnt it a good feeling to get all the materails, put it together and ride it but how do you start, if you have no idea?
I would not recommend posting any questions on the forum about it

Kaos,

All cool, but seriously if you can turn out good boards at a competitive cost then really go for it.

As you know it's a tough industry and I wish you all the best.

I think the mention of marketing in your first post put a few on edge. Possibly why I and others got the wrong idea.

Yeah I enjoy making boards (vac bag epoxy, divinicell, carbon), I even have a home made oven that works really well for post cure.
But this is a labour of love. So I naturally have a deep respect for those who make a living out of this and would like to see all local kiters support your local lads.

Maybe a better title would have been Board Building Workshop by Experienced Builder.

Anyway best of luck and happy kiting.

Hi kaos69.

I'm a Kiwi moving to Perth on the 26th of May. I started out boatbuilding, but have been out of the game a few years. If you need a spare set of hands when the winds not blowing, let me know.
I'd love to get into it. Scott.
