All the pro kiters seem to be pretty small. Ruben doesn't even look like he can see over a steering wheel.

What do you fella's and chicks think is the ideal weight for a kiter?

Cheers

It`s got to be between 95 and 98 kilos and aged 42. Only because I can`t turn back time and can`t lay off the beers

i don't think there is an ideal weight. wouldn't it change depending on what the conditions are and what sort of riding you want to do. someone thats only 50kg's is going to have a lot of trouble if there smallest kite is a 7m and its 30knots but would carve up on the 7m if it was only 20ish

Its a well known fact that smaller people are just better people, surely you've all noticed that by now??
PLUS smaller people get to kite for less $$, we can use smaller and less costly gear, while them big bully fat bast%^ds just pay.

i've just spent the last year putting weight on for footy and now that i'm getting into kiting i'm finding that i'd almost happily get smashed each week on the field just to have some more fun kiting

All you light weights just plop into the water after kooking out were as us big guys are like a keg of beer pounding into the water. So there for i think little would be better, On the other hand if i didn't have a fluctuating boby weight there never would be an excuse to buy new gear all the time. Its a Toss Up

Its probably got do do with smaller kiters need smaller kites, and smaller kites turn a whole lot quicker. Therefore these small guys can thrash their kites around and pull awesome tricks and loops etc, while a big rider is using all the power in the kite to keep him out of the water.

would love to see a 110kg bloke out on a 12m pulling mega loops in 35+ knots now that would be ballsy.

There's no ideal weight, suffice to say a bigger bloke would need more power and speed to pull off the same move as a smaller, lighter dude.
Therefore he would be doing a bigger, faster move and it should look better

think it might be more about height then weight too...

think about what you would rather watch, a 6'6 dude dunk a 10' basketball ring from outside the key, or a 4' dude dunk a 6' ring from a couple meters away....

ps, some 4' dudes can dunk a 10' ring.... or so i am lead to believe

speed sailing would be better around 95 I rekon

everything else, 60 to 75kg.

light = small kite = fast turns (especially on a wave)

light = small board = low swing weight/wind resist

light = less inertia = better pop

47kg = too small. It's too windy in moderate winds on my 7m, am currently in the market for a second hand 5m but they are rather difficult to come by (can't quite afford a new one, but am saving quickly)
