Yeah thanks man you got me excited too

The google shot shows the kitespot in Hooksiel / Germany.
If there?s no wind you walk over to the cable park and do your tricks there.
That?s how it should be, am I right?

Echostorm, in your calculations above you forgot that people hiring gear, doing lessons and of course you have to add a little cafe, which is often the main income of such parks. People enjoy watching beginners eating water while having a nice warm coffee or hot chips or whatever.

C?mon men, someone needs to do this!!

Well I also forgot to mention the cost of buying all the gear that is hired for free like knee boards, skis, basic wakeboards, and life jackets, replacing that gear every season which people absolutly trash, replacing ropes, fixing and buying new parts for the machine, buying an entirely new cable every few years, land tax, grounds maintenence, boat and fuel costs (yes each lake needs a boat for safety and EOD maintenence, cleaners, weeks when there are far LESS then 80 customers (we had several days where we had 2 people came to the park all day), phone bills, unforseen expenses... i.e. exploding plumbing, holes in walls ect...

Yes a kiosk earns a little bit of money, its definately not where a park makes most of its money... not even close. Usually its contracted out otherwise you still need to pay the staff to operate it plus the cost of the kitchen equipment, food and supplies costs... not to mention all the staff stealing icecreams and chocolates!

I've seen wakeboarding shops at the lakes do surprisingly well. People buy there because they are there all the time and are able to demo the gear. Other things they sell are bathing suits, towells, wetsuits so there are other avenues to subsidise the income.

You also can't discount money received from other sources. I.e. company functions which include relatively large alcohol bills (its always good to have a bar there for after session drinks), events (they use to host triathlons at the one i used because the water was a little more controlled than some other locations) etc.

The guy I chatted to who ran the cable park reckoned he made more out of events and functions than he did out of the cable for wakeboarding.

Nah its all good flemboyant....... It was a really really good get we were completely sucked in. The thing is...... a few of us had been out there a few times before to watch the wakeboarding comps etc.... so when you guys mentioned that there was a new cable park out there we thought it had to be real. The place is just perfect for it.

and if you think you laughed hard from behind your computer you should have seen me on Sunday morning racing out the front of the house ( killer hangover and all ) with all my gear to put in a mates car....... phone calls back and forth to make sure the others were underway and rather embarassingly there may have even been a high five or two at the prospect of what was ahead of us.
If you had of seen us you would have split your sides with laughter.

Anyway ended up spending the rest of the arvo at the pub so a good time was still had by all.

PS: I usually kite at Altona ( during the week ), Rye backbeach, flinders, phillip island ( usually try to get in the waves and away from the crowds over the weekends ) WHENWEHAVESOMEBLOODYWIND. usually riding a green and yellow (bondi rescue style) SB3 8m or a 12m SB3 ( white and orange ) on a Mark Shinn (not many of these around so it will most likely be me ) board. If you see me around come and say g'day.

May have take you up on that beer though
