Waiman was fine, Torch got speared through the leading edge. Fist size hole. If you listen closely you can hear a pop as it hits the tree.

The guy has offered to pay to fix it so i have to give him credit for that.

I think they may have sped up the footage, i didn't think it happened that quickly.

Nah, they mostly go home when it's green. Those that don't end up on the news.

Hey Random,

Before you give the guy too much credit for offering to pay to fix your kite, might I remind you of the local Brighton Kitesurfing Rules (specifically Rule no. 27) that states.

"Whenever a kitesurfer causes damage to another kitesurfers gear, and the owner of the damaged gear was found to not be negligent in the incident, then the kitesurfer who caused the damage and was responsible will pay the owner of the damaged gear the full replacement value for the damaged gear, valued prior to the incident."

27(a) "After paying full replacement value for the damaged gear, the payer may elect to take ownership of the damaged gear."

27(b) "Payment for repairs alone are an unacceptable resolution, in that the condition is diminished and will reduce the resale value."

We got rules??? All I got was a dodgy looking receipt and a tag about 3 months later. Where can we find these rules (google didn’t help).

There where only 8 rules when i signed up:

#1 - The first rule of Kite Club is, you do not talk about Kite Club.
#2 - The second rule of Kite Club is, you DO NOT talk about Kite Club.
#3 - If someone says stop, goes limp, taps out, the kite is over.
#4 - Two guys to launch/ land & fly a kite.
#5 - One kite per person at any time.
#6 - No shorts over wetties, no booties.
#7 - Kiters will go on as long as they have to.
#8 - If this is your first night at Kite Club, you have to kite.

Two things
When the **** hits the fan at least hold on to the bar to have some chance of steering the kits. Putting hands out may feel good but does nothing.
After hitting the tree it's better to pull the safety than to look at where you came from and see whos looking.

methinks he should have pulled the safety long before hitting the tree!

+1 how the f did that happen, lucky boy that he still can walk, retard

Haa I was there too, don't think it was quite 30kts at the time, maybe 25... Dude wouldn't let go of the bar. I was facing the other way and heard his mate (who launched him) yelling let go of the bar...

The old deer in headlights problem. Whoever it was that said he should have held on so he could steer the kite... he *was* steering the kite... straight through the Naish and into a tree. Letting go is definitely a better option when it goes bad. I'm guessing he's learned that now. Just sayin.

Doesn't matter who he was.

Just goes to show that 25 knots + of cool, gusty SE winds in QLD are not to be taken complacently.

If your skills are not proficient, or if your gear is to big, IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK!!

Trees do not say sorry and your kite shows no loyalty. She just wants to fly.

When in doubt, don't go out!
