hey everybody.

im originally from perth moved of to nz to snowboard ... then realised i have nothing to do in summer... then i found kiteboarding... i actually have an addiction. in the short space of 6 weeks that i have been doing it ... i have bought 4 kites 2 boards, 2 harnesses, 2 wetsuits, an impact vest and a dakine board bag spending roughly around 6.5K... dont tell mum. is this not the best sport in the frikin world... now back to my question.. is perth the mecca i am hoping it is... because over here im frustrated because there is only 1 wind that u can really go out on and thats the NE and it might blow above 15 knots once or twice a week at the most. like today its nw still around 30 knots but way to gusty to go out SO FRUSTRAITING.... please please tell me perth is not like this?

is the freo doctor the most common wind?

how strong does it get? can u go out in any other winds?

is there only beaches or do we have flat water eastury type places we can go out in aswell?

i have 2 kites i want to keep... i just bought a cabrhina xbow2 bow kite 12m and my other kite is a 9m ocean rodeo bow kite. the other to where naish torches and i decided i didnt like c kites, that was an expensive lil mistake :) will my 12m really b to big ?it has a wind range .... well i generally swap over after about 20knots i weigh 72kgs willl i really get to use the xbow much or is it worth selling?

im moving back next tuesday cant frikin wait and if there are any really bored people and there is no wind i would appreciate any advice

thanks guys

ben

Just remember ...everything between Augusta and Geraldton is a secret spot.......in fact my secret spot.......and you can only use it if you are a local.......and you are only a local if you were born in Perth, nevr left Perth and died in Perth and were buried in Perth.

For someone originally from Perth, you don't seem to know anything about the place.

So this is a friendly forum then!!!

FFS can't people either answer a question properly, or if they find the questions so stupid or abhorent to themselves, then just don't answer it. Why make the effort to reply with a t**ty answer.

Grrrr. And I though that the kite surfing communit stuck together and supported each other! According to this forum - clearly not!

Havox... hi mate ignor all the crap some of the guys give you on here, there a great bunch of guys around Perth spent the best part of a month there and it rocks for kiting.

Most days it blows around 20+ knots coming in around 1ish and blowing till dark, I have been on my 9m for the past 4 days on the trot, sailing mostly around Lancelin, Woodmans Point, Cott and a brief visit down the coast to Margeret River which is a must...

Drive up to Lancelin you wont be dissapointed up there too, I hear Geraldton is pretty awesome as well.

Mate you wont be dissapointed, WA has to be one of the best places to kite in the world... Im sure you will be stoked with the conditions, enjoy...

Jez.

Dear Jez,

We dont want all of Perths good spots packed out with Euro's, I'm glad you had a good visit but some places like woodies you can only enjoy when theres not many people on the water. It's no secret Perth is good but could you stop hyping up our spots and crowding them up with Touro's.

well... i think jez is writing about his trip in a mag soooo-lets hope its the good type of euro who make the trip (ones with respect for the locals).

only had one problematic euro who pissed all the locals off with his shocking risk taking and subsequent near misses that i know of
The other 10 or so i got friendly with last season were a great bunch although language barriers were funny/frustrating; "crisp, what is crisp?" (read with German accent)

I don't care if there are all good blokes, its a matter of crowding, not danger.

crowding is gonna happen either way, Darren was teaching 8 noobs per day when it was good last season-a couple euros who can at least keep out the way most of the time are nothing compared to the combined numbers taking up the sport locally.

It's true I am not a Perth boy but I have been here for over a year almost and I always ride the same spot pretty much, also I don't care about tuoros riding where I do or anything like that but hyping it up on the internet is a bit different.

it seems ppl are really protective of perth and crowding is definatly an issue.. im sorry guys i had no idea it was like that i meen here in nz we have like 2 spots brighton beach ... which u might b able to get out once a month and the eastury but the most u see out there is about 20 kites at a time. I really really appreciate in input by ppl such as jez and reading this has just got me more excited about coming home, the conditions sound phenominal and the people passionate .
honeslty kiting is my life at the moment there seroiusly is nothing else on earth i want to do. its good to see alot of people in the same frame of mind :) ive just organised to buy a big ass van for when i get home ... the brilliance of my job i dont have to work very many hours so its just going to b ** loads of camping trips in search of those once in a life time spots. Anyone welcome to come along :)

Havox , ignore what most of the ppl here are saying.. I went over for christmas and during the week on daytime, pretty much all of the spots are near empty... I've been to woodies so many times and had 1-2 hours of perfect wind with just myself or 2 or 3 others,

then on the weekend or afternoon later on around 4-6 pm , the rest rock up. sometimes it's busy , sometimes it ain't. there is plenty of unused coastline everywhere the has no-one on it and gets the same steady breeze. It's just the popular spots that get crouded, and there are plenty of spots with no-one that are far better than the popular spots... I think i didn't miss a day kiting due lack of wind, only because i needed a break!

have fun.
