i've read in a couple of mags that kiteloops with a bow is bad news.
why is this?

Depends what they mean by bad news? and it also depends on what kite you are using. I've looped my Switchblade 2 heaps of times. Some bows have more power through a loop than others. I couldn't possibly see any reason why they would be unsafe or anything. Some bows have less power through the loop and some of the bigger kites loop too slowly to provide enough power through the loop.
There are a lot of 10m or around that size bow style or hybrid kites that are awesome looping kites.

i looped my sonic 11m for the first time on the weekend in 15-17 knots. the jumps weren't huge, but looking across at the kite as it powers through the turn and yanks you downwind is an awesome feeling. the kite was fine, it completed the loops perfectly without incident, but i didn't land any of them cleanly. more practice.

I've recently gone from a crossbow 1 12m to a torch 3 12m. The torch is so much better and faster to loop.won't be going back to bows for a while.

yer i did the same mthomo.. except i went from a 9 and 13 waroo to a 10m torch 3... the 10m LOOPS insane compared to the 9 or the 13..
BUT if u want a bow kite that loops pretty decent.. 7m Flow 08.. 25 - 26 knots.. then ur set .. make sure u loop on the way up
