Yes, think of the kite as the engine and the bridal as the suspension and steering.
Like in a car, you can have a harsh and very responsive set up or a softer and more comfortable set up.
The kite is a wing that generates lift to create power. This lift is due to the foil shape creating a lower pressure above it as it passes through the air. (sorry getting tech now). This lift is determined by the depth of the foil and the length, distance from LE to trailing edge.
Bottom line is that despite how much you understand about the physics of the kite it still comes down to how it feels.
I believe it is like board design, there are so many little things that will have an effect. This is why the pro surfers will still get a huge amount of boards made and ride them all until they find the magic few that work.
A good kite allows you to improve and doesn't limit you. That is why I am so impressed with the new Wave kite, it is allowing me to improve more than any other kite I have ridden before.

that's starting to make sense... went out today in high 20s - 30s knts, even though i've got some f*cked up blood toxin disease shyte... anyway, couldn't resist. Started on my 7m rev2 and was overpowered pretty quick - got a good sense of that foil as i pumped it up- height the leading edge was off the ground.
went in and got my new reo 6m. just in pumping it up could see the foil diff in much lower to the ground. Soooo fricken different to ride. Heaps responsive but much less grunt. far more difference than just the one metre less canvas. Heaps of fun, super fast but didn't have the boost and power of the rev2
and in reverse, a few weeks back i thought there was enough wind for the 6m but it bogged and struggled. went and got the 7m and it charged it. again, it was more than just the one metre differnce in canvas
think, i'm getting my head around it

Wave kites are wave kites, they can boost if you send them but all in all they are only good for basic freestyle.
But they drift.. The setup is the most important, as you go down the face the kite is redirected down-wind BEFORE you bottom turn.
All the wave kites will drift but some have more power. A true wave kite will drift, not throw you off the rail when going through the window even unstrapped. And will also loop to get you down the line.
I love technology.
