will the line running through the bar wear out ?

I Flew the 12 a few weeks ago and thought it was awesome...
Very Smooth and powerful turns from a big kite - I liked it... Nice for wake stuff, plenty of Recoil on the pop and nice and stable etc...

I did come straight off an Instinct though, so the bar pressure was a shock, but after 10mins it was nice to have a bit of feeling there... Didn't get a chance to try the IDS Function, Should of though...

Yellow and Green colour scheme was a little bit iffy lol, Patriotic but but very very Fluro...

The CB 1 put me off Cab's but the SB IDS put Cabrinha back into my good books...

I had a bash on the 12m SB IDS yesterday on Botany Bay. I've been using a 10m SB2 for the last couple of years. Basically the overall impression I got of this kite was how smooth it was. The wind was pretty light when I got started but still managed to stay upwind on my finless board. There is no need to trim before you unhook, and the kite played nice when riding towards it. The jumps were also very floaty. A worthy replacement of my SB2

This years kites are awesome and they do have more acceleration. There was nothing wrong with last years smaller sizes, the 10M SB3 and8M SB3 were incredible for big boosts and rapid leave your guts behind acceleration off the water.
This years SB IDS 12M is faster turning than last years, but its not a 10M kite, its definitely an improvement over last years 12M SB3, demo one if you can. Much easier to jump higher and get better float than last years.

Never unhook, and no desire to?

Ride in waves on a surfboard or TT/hybrid, or on flat water on TT's.

I tried the 8M SB IDS and the 9M CB IDS back to back in similar winds and I prefered the feel and boosting of the CB IDS.
The jumps and float/hangtime are quite different between the 2 models, the CB IDS gives the highest boost with a long glide distance, and you tend to land a bit faster.
The SB IDS will jump nearly as high (or so it seems to me, but other riders are now saying similar things), but you get a much floatier hangtime and travel less distance. The SB IDs is the better of the two kites for unhooking, and requires no adjustment of the trimmer to unhook.

Because you do want to ride waves, probably going to lean you towards the SB IDS, for everything else I think the CB IDs is the better machine.

The kite is a bit lighter (5 struts CB IDS has 7), and has a deeper chord and sits more stably at the edge of the window. So when you need to ride towards it wave riding, then it drifts back downwind better and does not slide down the edge of the window as fast.
And yeah its better unhooked too.
No I don't think it is the replacement for the Revolver, its aimed more at the wakestyle/unhooked freestyle rider, but its also a good allrounder and just has good manners! :-)

I think there is a project in the pipeline to produce a dedicated wave kite, possibly an 09 release, not sure on that though.

i got mine yesterday and i went out today on them at rosebud. i got a 10m and a 6m but only flew the 10m today in winds form a consistent 15knota at the start and then it picked up to a solid 23-25 knots which was great for boosting kiteloops. firstly it lookes awesome as it is red and black. i used the 40cm bar on it and still flew quite fast and was sooo smooth. through the kiteloops it pulled the whole way and the jumps were soo floaty. unhoooking was really good as even if you were underpowered you could still load up a great pop and do most moves. the bar is really nice and grippy and very simple. i didnt bother using the ids system so didnt see how that works. the only down side to the bar is that it has no override system and i am only 14 and quite small (162? cm) so if i let go of the bar i can only just reach it to grab it back and i cant reach the de power strap thing unless i stop and pull in the whole thing. apart from that the brideling is really simple and it all works well. but as usual the cabrinha BAGS ARE ABSOLUTELY MINIATURE!!! the bar pressure is just right because it doesnt give you sore arms at all but you can definatly feel that it is there. the kite has a more direct feel and it is smoother than last years model but i am not sure if it has as much power, but it doesn't backstall at all even in very light winds. overall i am really happy with my new kite and i cant wait to fly the 6m in really strong winds.

but since i weigh 50kgs i was using it on the furthest knots because it was so windy. i will try the closest knot. i will post another review on the 6m when i get a chance to fly it (hopefully monday)

Have you tried rigging the back lines on the knot closest to the kite ewan. We've found they turn better, truck upwind, and have comparable power and light wind abilities to the SB3 on this knot.

Hey Pearl,

By flying it on the back knots did you feel it had as much bottom end as last seasons 10m. I am looking to replace my SB3 12m with a 10m IDS.

Am I going to lose to much bottom end ?

Love my 8m but avoid using my 12m like the plague. So figured a 10m may help bridge the gap between 18 and 25knts so I never have to use the 12m.

any thoughts experiences would be appreciated

Nice score, the 10M is such a great kite, and you have one of the best of the new colours too IMO!
Go back to your dealer, there is a fix for the overide. Definitely can me tweaked to lock on the centre line really tight, by trimming the overide clip internal stopper tabs.
But otherwise a quick yank on the black centre line will get the bar back in your hands easy.

The knot thing is a throwback to dinosaur c kite days, and even then it was really only for trimming to get the best bar distance.
Use of the middle knot is all thats needed on Cabs unless the front lines stretch and then the last knot can be used to restore the bar to optimal riding position for most riders. (pigtail sets are the best for evening up stretched lines)
The knots do not power up or depower the kite, they are for trimming the bar position only.
Same with the trim strap, power and depower are really the wrong words, and have caused, and still cause much grief (people think they can ride outside the wind range of the kite, by "depowering" it!!!).

had a chance to take out my 6m switchy 4 today at saint kilda in 25knot average winds. first of all i weigh 50kgs so in this wind i was well powered. when doing big big boosting kiteloops, on this kite there is just such a huge pull from the kite and then it rushes back up to 12 o'clock to give you a soft but very speedy landing. the kite kiteloops and boosts better than last years kite and the feeling you get from it when you are 10m+ in the air and get ripped through the sky is awesome. (sorry if i am blabbering on a bit but i had one of the best seshes of my life today). it trucks upwind, but doesnt have as much power as last year but has huge depower when you need it. after that the wind died down to a consistent 14-15 knots for 2 hours so i switched to my 10m. i was surprised at how much power i had as i was pretty powered and my freind on a 12m was underpowered by a bit. on this kite i can progress so much faster than last years (i dont know y). today i learned raleys to blind and landed a few and rode away and passed out of about 10 but then fell over, and consolidated double s-bends (i am soo stoked). overall i think this years switchy's are amazing and better than last years and can reccommend them to anyone, and i cant w8 to get the foot straps for my new caliber 127cm so i can ride it.
