I have had the 12m waroo for a week now and been out on it 3 times so far. Before the waroo I owned a 10m C02. I had been out on that maybe 5 times and could not go upwind at all. The last time I flew the c02 I was JUST coming back maybe 3 or 4m downwind of where I started. but If I got hit by a gust or crashed then I would have to walk upwind again.

First day I flew the waroo in about 25kts and it was perfect. didnt stay out long thanks to 100s of bluebottles but I think this is the limit I would want to kite in safely as there was almost no depower left in the kite.

second day was a nice 17kts and I went upwind for the first time and did so all afternoon, flew perfectly and was my best day kiting to date.

3rd day was about 11kts and I was just bored and decided to skip lectures and see if the kite would fly. It flew very well and took a big beating in the surf after I pushed my luck and decided to try play around on a surfboard. Just attached the leash to the OS handles and unhooked and swam in.

overall very impressed. Will be buying the 9m in a few months time.

Well the cyclonic conditions up here in Mackay QLD saw us guys out on the 9 Waroo's today in the big surf. 28-35knots it was nuecen. Riding the waves with these kites are unreal as they are so steady and forgiving. I was riding directly down the face of waves and the kite was basically flying backwards for a few seconds then I cut back, smacked the lip and powered at will to face down the wave again. This was the best ever wave session I had ever had with some big sloppy Nth Qld waves.

Before that we were riding in the glass flat sections of East point. As well as the waves this kite is just as good for unhooked wakestyle moves. Pretty much performs as good and the same as any "C" kite I have ever ridden.

had my 12 for 5days and this kite is insane im riding in 13knots up till so far 22 knots where the big difference to a c shaped kite is not only the depower but that there is huge power on tap next time u boost big pull the bar in and bang away you go if u feel like it on comin down let the bar out a bit crank it in again and get the best double boosts of your life for tricks they rip if u spot your landing early again pull in on your bar and land powered if u begin to over rotate push the bar away and just stop no more crazy drag it feels funny not getting hauled after crashin at first

What board are you riding in 13knots and what weight are you?

What is the speed of the 12 like?

Trying to decide which size is going to be best for me, either 9 or 12.

Just got my 12 Waroo. I love C kites and didn't think I would find a bow/SLE type that would suit me but I have. I've only ridden it twice and though it would take at least 6 sessions before I would comment but there's no need I'm already improving and more confident.

- Bar pressure and feedback. I really liked the Rhino 4 bar pressure and the Waroo is about the same. No difference to a C of the same size. The amount i have to move the bar to get the kite to turn is the same as my C's and my style is to kite with both hands up against the rope..no difference at all. The waroo has a long chicken line but the power is spread over quite a long length of it in a gradual way which I liked a lot (probably over about 250/300mm). I didn't find myself pumping in and out of the bar with gusts like some other bows, just held it in the same place as the pressure isn't that strong and kiting one handed is just like riding against the knot (except moving a finger over the other side of the chicken line to balance). Feedback on the bar with respect to where the kite is is the best of any kite I've ever flown! I'm surprised.
Really liked the bar set-up and uncluttered bar. I'm using a 45 cm bar which is plenty. The bar has a ridge like the Xbow which I didn't like at first but has grown on me. I was worried about the long reach to the depower but even with a chest harness its easy to reach(not that you have to use it that much. It more of a fit and forget).

- C like turns...well nearly and near enough that It doesn't matter any power lost in the turn is made up for by having the confidence to throw it around faster or sheeting in to make it like a 14. However the ability to decrease the power smoothly and dump power quickly if needs be makes turning much more enjoyable for me.

- Fly's like a C? I know its only a visual thing but I never liked the axial turns from bows they never looked "right" but this turns with a familiar arc. Unlike my C's its unbelievably stable and everyone I talk to mentions this. Its quick but a shade slower than some of the recent C's. Plenty quick enough for me though. It does oversheet and is harder to detect when this happens. The power levels off and starts to reduce without any apparent change in the kites shape. It doesn't nose dive and doesn't have such a bow shape and it feels like a C and I haven't had to change my style..so yeh 3/4 of the way there. Great.

- Spinning the bar.. hmm I'm still missing my knot to unspin the bar. This is the only issue for me. If you spin it against the depower strap it unspins but you'll plop into the water (as most of my landings leave me sitting in the water that's no problem!) You have time to reach up and grab the bar before the kite falls away. So I'm having to cross hands or spin back the other way..I'll live with it.

- Wind range. 100KG + 135 airush switch. 14/15 knots constant to hold ground and have fun. Comes alive at 18 - 23knots. Never been out in anything over 28 gusts yet but handles with no problem.

- Jumping. Huge. Yet to get the technique right but it seems the less effort I put in the higher I go. Its going to out jump my C's. Hang time is very good. Seems to hold me at the peak for a second longer before comming down at the same speed as my C's. Sometime the impact is hard sometimes featherlike so something to learn.

Overall its a fantastic kite I'm so glad I got it. I have not had such a good time kiting for a long time. Thanks to Joe Millen for being so easy to deal with and sending the kite down so fast.

There you are riding the same board as me and 15KG's lighter. Should knock a few knots off my minimum speed I'd have thought.
Just from my observations the 12 looks bigger than a 12. Last Sunday I was kiting with another 9 waroo and he is probably about 75KG's (sorry if I've offended you Jeff) the wind was about 12knots and we both had to walk back every run about the same amount. However I'm surprised we could go at all with the kites we had. When the wind increased only a few knots we were both making it upwind OK. The wind suddenly peaked as a cloud front moved in and got to 20 knots with short gusts of 25 - 28. My 12 was still nice and steady and jeff said he was never overpowered at any time. I'd go for the 12 if you want the early planing. Also the kite needs to move and not be oversheeted to get the most amount of power.

I want to be able to go as as much as possible in winter (i live in wollongong). Im thinking a 7m. that should be fine for 20-30kts right?

id like to get a 16m eventually to but think the 7m will get more use over winter??? are there even any 7s in australia yet? dont want to order and have it arrive in november

Yeh there are 7's available. Will have 7,9,12,14,16 available in 2 weeks time and 20's a few weeks after that.
