Nice review. let us know what you think of the w16 vs the dundee.

Just picked it up this morning. 133*42 Dundee.
Can't ride them back to back so I will do my best to make a good comparison.
At first glance the main difference is the outline. Rocker and bottom shape don't seem to differ to much. I think a good thing by the way.
I believe the wave ride quality is a large part due to the single concave and tucked under rails and both boards have that. I hope the outline will give a a bit more power when popping. I hope I will get out tomorrow. I will post a few lines when I had a go.

Thinking of buying a fun, throw around high wind Shinn board. Need to decide between the 131 dundee and the W16 speedball. Allready have a 132 monk as my big boosting board. Can the W16 be used as a high wind fun board, or is it too big?

What weight are you, I used the w18 in 25knts on an 11 edge, unlike the monk you had to be more vigilant as it could get away from you a bit, the 16 would be better but imo this board is better in the lower winds and best in the mid range, a smaller monk dundee or new supershinn would be a better choice, or if you've a multi kite quiver then go the speedball on a smaller kite than you'd use on your standard tt

Dont think so.
Id be prepared to send you one - sale or return in case you dont like it (doubtful).
You would have to pay return freight! Just to keep you honest :-)

Just go the w18, such a great fun board, carves well, feels small and gets going early in the light stuff, a great addition in medium wind and waves.
Always amazes me how small it feels for the boards wide area, sick board!

No wind here today so went looking for a new TT ,There is a dealer here for Shinn,Paul from Ozone,he has no Speedballs in stock but is waiting on an order from Europe, said he will contact Shinn tonight to see when the delivery date is ,but will need to come thought customs in Ho Chin Min so it may weeks or perhaps a month

He has 2 Monks in the shop but they are too small I think for me, a 129cm and a 128 cm, I weight 86 kg,

My biggest kite is 12m so I dont kite so much in light winds,I like mostly kiting in medium to strong winds in waves on a 9m or 7m

Which size to get ?

yeh at 86kg you need to be on a 135 monk 133 dundee or the w16 speedball, the w18 imo is for the big boys or a lightwind wave weapon, the monk is a sublime ride especially in choppy conditions ( mui ni) the dundee is a much easier transition than the speedball, ive ridden all 3 for a good while, they are all great boards, how you like to ride and what kite imo is important in board selection

No rides yet but from info & looks they'll be a SuperShinn on speed.
But just a little bit of speed as there will be a full on freestyle released shortly called the ADHD.

IMO Supershinn & the new Ultrasonic are best for those who go hard on flatwater - mostly.
Monk & Toyboy are very high end all-rounders that do handle chop & surf with amazing comfort + performance.
Dundee if you are regularly in surf & chop & wanting an even smoother ride & more control on the face.
Red & Gintronic as regular Xover, general purpose, go anywhere twinnys.

Dont class the speedball alongside these boards as its a very different ride to your standard tt, with the conditions you mention and how you ride id go for the monk 135x42 the speedball dundee and monk all deliver a super smooth ride but are quite different in performance,Imo this is how i see them, The speedball would be a board id ride in the lower and mid wind range in conditions with swell and waves, The dundee is a board id ride in the mid and upper wind range with swell and waves, and the monk in upper to high end wind in any conditions, rode a heap of boards but i always go back to my monk, the laluz would be my choice out of the above boards you can demo, also another great board if you get the chance is the flyboard radical from flysurfer, put your pads and straps on each board to give you a true feel as some can gloss over the boards ride and true performance,

thanks for the post and info Cauncy,

I have a good mate coming here soon,he has a 135 dundee I can demo,he said its unbelivable in the waves,is stoked with it

I got a fb message today from Paul the Shinn dealer here in Mui Ne,he said that the order he placed with Shinn is on its way,no differnet arrival date because of customs but appox 10 days but possitively be here before the end of the month, think he has the whole range of Shinn boards in most sizes as well as noble TT boards coming

forecast is for good wind in 4 days

going to be a long 4 days

Still plenty off fresh scollops marinaded in olive oil, parsley,a little salt and pepper with lemon and mixed spices and BBQ in the shell on a charcoal fire for $3.50 a kg and icy cold cheap beer for 50c a bottle

gotta love Vietnam

Monk-

I have found the monk power hungry & hopeless with a gutless kite (C4 11m)

BUT

I love it with the Edges. Totally different story.

How is the speedball 18W. People say it gets up nice and early.

My thoughts aswell on the monk, however the w18 might be better imo with a lesser powered kite, or go with the skinnier w16

Would luv to come to WA and do a season kiting but with Perth being the 3rd most expensive city in the world to live in and the rest of WA not being much cheaper think I will stay here

but I just might come over, buy a cheap campervan[if there is such a thing] and some fishing rods and head up north and go down south

I just sold my monk forever 132 to my brother. He rode it today and loved it. He said the ride was unbelievable! So fast yet no spray. I am buying a small dundee 131. I can boost as high on my Dundee as the Monk because I kite in very choppy and gusty conditions. I already have a large 135 x 44 Dundee and it has become my favourite board. I do love the monk but prefer the dundee because I kite powered up often going a size up over similar weight riders.
