That is the only Drawback with those tires. Weight but then again I do enjoy throwing the Razor into a spin. Just never growed up I guess.

How long would a set of car tyres last if every corner you turned you did it sideways? So if the tyres wear out fast is there a problem with the tyres or the how they are used?
The most wear resistance tyres that I have used are the Aero tyres, why? They are designed to have a compound to tolerate going from no rotations to flat out in a fraction of a second when an aircraft comes into land.

My point precisely They are Hacking my behavior nicely, thank you. They perform well in sand as well. Whereas Softer compounds chop out real quick, like.
For the benefit of all; An hour ago I followed a vehicle to it's destination (Pity it wasn't the Beach) as it had a rather Odd appearance on a Strange looking Trailer.
It turns out that it was a young guy I had been chatting with last month and gleaned that his dad had built a Land Yacht a few years back. LAND YACHT!!! Is an understatement-----------------Big Time and I didn't have a camera with me. This thing is near 4.5mtrs long and and at least 3mtrs wide built from aluminum. The outer 750mm of each Axle bear is built in a Folding Wish Bone system that Bolts into place fro sailing it uses Ali Motor Bike wheels and sports a Catamaran Sail, this Beast is Massive and sits on a Purpose Built Trailer which uses a 300mm Ali Tube as its main chassis as well as Sail, Mast etc Storage. The whole unit is something to behold. I hope some day to take some pic's of it for posting on the site.

have you tried planing/buffing the sidewalls and some of the top yet to reduce the weight?
i did suggest it to you a few months back

Probably no use to most on this forum but I found (and bought 3) these from EBay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wheelbarrow-16inch-400mm-Wheel-Barrow-Launch-Trolley-Cart-Tyre-Inner-Tube-/260904270529?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenEquipment_HandTools_SM&hash=item3cbf1b3ac1

I needed to replace the club yachts tyres that I've knackered in the last few months and get a tube or two. It turned out cheaper to buy these than just the tyres and tubes separately Can't find any bearing adapters yet but they'll do to start the next yacht build - which means I need some more tyres and tubes At the worst I'll knock up some adapters on the lathe but $7.68 for a tyre, tube and hub ain't half bad.

Forget adapters - RLS7 or R16 bearings depending on wheel spindle size.

Yeah! Col,
I do not want to burst your bubble but.
I am running them on Schrodinger's Cat, they are only so so the bearings are noisy and cut out pretty quickly. I ended up machining them out and fitting a High Speed Race fitted with retainer Clips, the clip let into the plastic of the Hub. They do the job now but are barely satisfactory. I have been looking seriously at a couple of Rims from

www.electricscooterparts.com/wheels.html

Front Wheel For All Razor Dirt Rocket MX350 Electric Dirt Bikes

They look sturdy and a different tire (Street tire) fitted should do the job nicely.

Always keep in mind that "Cheap is as cheap does" Quality will end up cheaper over time.

Don't panic Ron I know exactly what I've got. I was after tyres and tubes for the clubs yacht which is only fair as I've trashed a set in very short time. Those tyres last longer on the runway surface as there's more tread on 'em. The club is doing a sort of tyre test to see what lasts and for learners they're fine (bit noisy, bit slow). I'll use them to build either a LLF for the missus (then swap to 'Yorker' hubs from Dave Green), or join the mini arms race and build something light and low but again swap out when the time comes. But the price is so low that I can't buy the same tyres and tubes separately anywhere for that money and the hubs (and 1/2 the tubes) are essentially free Which is great for using for mocking up.

Check these out Nikrum. tboltusa.com/store/honda-50-z50-monkey-bikes-br-10-wheels-tires-silver-pair-p-2249.html If you mate them with a gokart race hub and small adapter plate they would work. Salty though.... but looking good costs$$$$. Am serious about doing something with scooter tires too, just haven't found the best route.

OK! Paul,
i have tried re-grooving and finished up covered in molten Rubber so that is as far as I took the experiment and I do not have a heavy enough Cut Throat Razor to try shaving the side walls[}:)]. Buffing the top of my Bonce is too much trouble so why would I Buff my tires.

Unfortunately Ron, while some of us accept the risk we take and accept the outcome if something goes wrong, there are others out there who will run straight to the lawyers it something goes wrong and there is maybe a quid in it for them. I wish it was not like that but I guess its the world we live in today.

Funny you should say that. I've tentatively being looking at the construction of the old ('70s & '80s) Astralite wheels as a possibility... for all sizes. Rims are causing some thought but the hubs and ally sheet centres are easy enough with my small lathe/miller. I'm guessing that any failure in the placky 4.00x8s is in the hub. Trouble is I'm too strapped for cash to experiment currently.

Thought about it, an then asked my self why? I hate wheel barrow wheels for some reason. Then again I picked up 3 farshaw wheels today just in case I need them for the new wing thing.

Aus has a point Col,
Why build a small OD Wheel when a larger Dia' will roll easier and freer.. Have you ever driven a Tractor with Large rear wheels and then one of those little Bone Shakers they call Ride on Lawn Mowers?? The smaller the wheel the Deeper a Pot Hole seems.. Haveing said that I wonder how a 2mtr wheel would feel[}:)] Gees! Hell of a YOT!

Trouble is Ron. I have a dream! Pilots licence by end of March/April. Race licence shortly after. Which means I'd be scouting for a second hand Class 5 or Standart (pricey) or build a mini that fits the rules (and lose weight). To do that I need the 4.00 x 8s. It might end up as a pipe dream and go no where. All I know is as soon as I see the yacht in front, I want it to be the yacht behind.

Cheers Col

British Landsailing (new name of the Fed) issue you with a 'logbook' when you join a club and you just work your way through it as you go...if you want. You are required to reach level 3 in 6 months for insurance purposes, which at Elvington with Promos, Standarts, Class 5s, Class 3s, X-sails/Blokarts and pottys (or similar) all sailing together and even having handicap races together you need some rules or it would be carnage Anything after that is your choice.

http://www.bfslyc.org.uk/files/fed/D.03%20Logbook.pdf and the 'Welcome' link on the same site explains it (though a bit out of date).

We've lost a lot of venues over the years (St Annes club and Mablethorpe Club ISTR can't sail at St Annes or Mablethorpe) to knee jerk reactions to a horrendous accident a while ago now so I guess we all have to be seen to be responsible, before we lose more.

Cheers Col

When I was looking at the 10" scooter tyres, the kendra seemed to be one of the cheapest with a tread pattern that appeared to be suitable (especially as a front wheel) comes out to about the same overall diameter as fallshaws/4.00X8
