Hey Cisco
You can count me in for the new-to-be-formed L/Y club. I dont know if I would be a regular Qld member or a Remote area member, not that it matters. However, I am going to do the rounds of the local establishments and see if anyone wants to join/form a L/Y club here in Yeppoon. I thought the local yacht club at Yeppoon might be good place to start. There are at least three L/Y's that I have seen running on the beach at Bangalee. The beach there might be a reasonable place to run S/Y's on the weekends. I'l see what I can do.

The question is do people want a “Group” or a “Club” ..

And what do people want to achieve with it?

I have inluded a discription of both from Wikipedia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
club is an association of people united by a common interest or goal. The service club, for example, exists for voluntary or charitable activities; there are clubs devoted to hobbies and sports, social activities clubs, political and religious clubs, and so forth.

Group (sociology)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In sociology, a group is usually defined as a collection of humans who share certain characteristics, interact with one another, accept expectations and obligations as members of the group, and share a common identity. Using this definition, society can appear as a large group.
While an aggregate comprises merely a number of individuals, a group in sociology exhibits cohesiveness to a larger degree. Characteristics that members in the group may share include interests, values, ethnic/linguistic background, and kinship ties.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I believe that a Group has little or no structure and similar to us here on Seabreeze and a Club would have a structure, committee, rules and all the things to go with it.
Clubs require COMMITTED individuals for their ongoing successful operation.
Groups on the other hand individuals may come and go to suit their needs without the limitations of a club.

And which ever version is created WOULD it be recognised by a reinvigorated ALSA?

In other words if whatever is created doesn’t meets ALSA criteria are we wasting our time in forming anything at all?

By my way of thinking if we want to be recognised and included in ALSA happenings we have to be. Regardless of structure (Club vs Group) we will be an active component of landsailing in Australia and that should be the only requisite for membership. This is as long as we are cohesive enough to accomodate our responsibilities to ALSA (double edged blade thing). My two cents anyway .

I vote club status. Unless we are in it 100% we cant expect ALSA to do much for us if we dont do something with their commitment, cant expect ALSA to deal with a group of individuals. Club structure gives us a framework to work to as well. Plus Aus landsailing already has an awesome online group, Seabreeze

I think we really need a place online to privately discuss things too. Where membership allows access, purely so 'meetings' can be held when needed.

Hey Kody,
You're welcome brother. I am sure in the not too distant future we will see the formation of the "Central Queensland Land Sailing Club" with it's home ground being Farnborough Beach. What better place for it????

In the meantime, for isolated land sailors, the formation of the Seabreeze Land Sailors Club or Group has to be the way to go.

Concerns by some of us as to what the ALSA stance will be when it's situation is resolved are quite valid.

For this reason I concur with Gizmo that the formation of a less formalised "GROUP" would be a better idea initially than a fully incorporated club.

This will allow time for discussion of what future policies, constitutional rules and structure might be.

The other question is what Laurie can come up with to accomodate us.
