hoop - your a bumhole
sexy - dunno when foiler post got started but i saw one in action yesterday - it was an 'assasin' brand boat - brand new. boat is a mammoth task to rig and launch etc as it's T foils dont lift - has to be capsized in deep water and swum/carried to bank to retrieve! An A class cat (comparable as it also only has 1 sail) would destroy that (and most others) around a race course and is much easier to handle for the rest of its owner's time. Sailing does not have to be hard work & a pain in whatever to participate contrary to bumholes posts. Only 2nd hand 'A's are cheaper than a new 'assasin' though. I am not suggesting that all dinghy racing should be stopped but would like to see more kids exposed to multihull sailing - not just what their parents used to sail...
The foiler Moths have wiped very good A Class cat fleets on several occasions, including the Sydney Brass Monkey a season or two back. Yes, an A is a lot quicker in the light stuff when the Moth isn't foiling, but to say that an A Class would destroy a good foiler Moth is just complete rubbish.
If you want kids exposed to cat sailing, what about stop acting like an arrogant and unimaginative person (which is how you come across when you abuse monos) and start working harder on getting kids into sailing junior cats.
Okay, we know that you have a personal preference for cats. That's fine. But to instantly abuse monos as you do is the sort of stuff that gives cat sailors a really bad name. Luckily, very few of them are really like you.
Yes, mono sailors know that cat are often quicker (although downwind or in light wind the Skiffs are pretty damn quick, and that's from someone who sails cats faster than yours and does it okay) but who cares? A tinny with a 15hp on the back is quicker than an A Class, a speed windsurfer is quicker than a Tornado, my grandmother would be quicker than Lance Armstrong or Cadel Evans on a bike, and I go faster in a Boeing than Mark Webber does in a F1 car. BFD, it's not all about speed.
PS - for many people, the fact that a mono is hard to keep up is part of the enjoyment. Not everyone likes it being easy to keep upright most the time. Yes, of course there is skill in cat sailing, but there are different types of skill and many people like the sort of skills that you need more of in a mono.
