Hey I'm pretty new to this forum but I do check it from time to time and find some pretty knowledgable people on here so I thought I'd try my luck and pick some brains.
At the moment I'm using my laptop as a plotter (Open CNP with Cmaps) and have just invested in an Android tablet on the hope that I could load some sort of chart reader on it for portability and other obvious reasons.
Well, this has been quite the task with no luck finding anything that will work on the Android platform with Aust charts.
I'm always reluctant to spend big bucks on these things cause for one, I just don't have them and two, as soon as I see something like this its always half the price a week later or theres a free version put out not soon after, hence, thats why I use OpenCNP with a $40 USB GPS transponder for the laptop.
Does anyone know of any chartplotter software out there that's Android based?
I'v seen about four or five on Google, but there all but they all are USA charts and the ones that state Aust charts aren't able to be downloaded.
Anyone?

This question appears occasionally on the Seaclear forum and probably does on the Open CNP ones as well. I know nothing about Android platforms and I guess the closest thing I have to one is a 7 inch car gps that runs a flash card with road maps. This uses Windows 6 and I have wondered whether a Cmap flashcard would work on it. Had Cmap in a Seiwa 12", years ago, sold the flashcard and binned the chartplotter.

Tried Seaclear2? Price is the same as Open CNP and more stable. I tried Open CNP years ago but it was fairly poor then.

Have a search on the cruisierforums for threads such as this;

See "Good GPS/Map units" a couple of threads down. But the short answer is Navionics.

I use navionics on the iphone - It is great, and only $15.

I don't use it for offshore nav - iphones are not waterproof or robust enough for this, but it is great for dreaming of your next voyage!

Another +1 for Navionics. Works great on Android and lets you customize how much map data you want to download for offline use.
