For retired people who love the simplicity of sailing dinghies midweek without the stress of racing and harbour traffic. Interests to share on the forum are set up ideas for ease of handling and arranging to join other dinghy cruisers to sail Sydney Harbour with extra safety.

that looks like an interesting set up, is that a raised boom for safety in a jibe?

there is a lot to be said for getting back to basics .

just as much fun to be had in a dinghy as in a bigger yacht

and to be able to row if the wind drops away is a great thing , particuarly if you are sailing in a area with strong current flow.

what sort of hull did you use?

is that bowsprit a renovation?

are you using furlers on the jibs?

a great pastime for you lucky retirie!!! not me yet

yes raised boom to prevent knock out - on your own that's a bit risky! Also depowers the rig with lower CofG - peak is lower as well.

Oars are much more effective that the usual paddle - made them 7 feet long each - works well with the sliding seat and packs away neat in two pieces.

It's a GRP hull (standard Solo) - I added the bowsprit - roller furlers on both jibs - I can tack them and reel them in with one hand from steering position (see control box on top of centerboard in one of the pics).

It took a lot of time to get all the positionings right but very pleased with the outcome. Lots of ideas and inspiration from Margaret Dye's book 'Dingy Cruising'.

btw: I like the relaxed style fo stand up paddlers
