I think that's a tacking outrigger. I should hate it, but somehow its got some sort of charm, I can't say how... form following function in some way perhaps.

to be fair, it does look like it floats (sinks) pretty well on the waterline.
Thats some climb up from a dingy.

I'd love to see some of the engineering involved. Is it ballasted? With what, axles? Is it a roof stepped or axle stepped mast?

Isn't the rig in backwards?
New cruising design using the modern approach of offshore boats being able to do everything from down below!!!!

I know this boat. Has had a lot of money spent on it over the years by a very knowledgeable owner. As a cheap twilight/day sailor it's a bargain at the price.

We had a look at this Noelex 30.....What a shame.
It had sunk, the mast was bent and not salvageable, the motor was shot and the trailer completely shot.
From the outside it looked like a great project. I was talking to the owner who was an elderly gentleman, and I mean gentleman, when my wife went down below. The look on her face when she came out said all I needed to know.
The inside was a complete train wreck.
I did a search when we got home and found the YouTube selling video. Beautiful boat a few years ago.
It was very sad to see.

The funny thing was, we discussed for days afterwards the pros and cons of taking it on. We had access to the resources and the ability to take on the restoration. A good 12 months we estimated.

I called the seller and they said they would ring back. Never heard from them.
Cant say I am disappointed now.

Not rock bottom price but definitely like the layout,
Wonder what ripping up the deck would entail money wise, diy 3k?

Redecking my SS34 cost less than a thousand dollars. That was for the marine ply, two layups of epoxy and fibreglass cloth. Primer and finish coat of Kiwigrip. There was a lot of labour required though!

O.M.G.
Unless it makes you coffee every morning, mows the lawn weekly and invests in the stock market for you, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell I'd pay $230K for an S&S 34. Pedigree or no, that's just nuts.

They're counting on someone paying for its rating.

Story of the boat here: www.azzurroyachtracing.com/our-story/

Bought for $23K, had a stupid amount lot of money spent on it. Would have to be the only dry-sailed S&S34 in the world, if not the universe.

If the hull is really stainless steel, then clearly it would have been an "amateur" who made that decision. Its well known fact that stainless steel breaks down rapidly when submerged. Even super corrosion resistant stainless steel like Duplex breaks down leaving you with more headaches than a mild steel hull. Corten would have been a better choice and is proven in steel hull construction. The ad is not very clear, maybe they only built the deck out of stainless and the hull is just regular mild steel?

It's an ad so might not necessarily be true! I can remember years ago when the Dutch were known as the best steel yacht builders with their Corten steel yachts and they were often referred to as rust free steel. That's not true either!

Yes well my stainless steel water tanks became porous after 33 years with fresh water in them so at least some grades of stainless steel arent perfect (oxygen starvation or no oxygen starvation). The racing Northshore 38 known as the NSX came with a stainless steel keel with the lead bulb on the bottom. Any comments on this?

There are a few yachts with stainless steel keels lead filled Cold moulded Van de Stadt 34's, some of Knoop's 30 footers. On my fishing vessel I used SS self tappers to hold the covers over the water intakes for the bait tanks. The planks were oregon with a high moisture content and I used the same screws for over 20 years. I took the covers off on the slips for painting and they were always immaculate.

Thanks for that.
Interesting that it is not recommended for hulls but seems to be ok for keels.
Not really getting the logic.

Perhaps cost ? Not just the basic material but also welding rods, drill abilities, etc. I've just rebuilt my gunnel rail with 304, got 70 of the 74 drill holes in the right place, now I have to devise a way to mount the little pedestal drill in situ to redrill the 4 offenders. It happens
