Hi Team

I am very ashamed of my alcohol fuel rant the other night and not pleased with my efforts in having to read it two days later. I am sorry if I have offended anyone and BlueMoon has received a pm from me hopefully clearing the air. Behaving as I did was inappropriate. I have been following this forum for years and the information bank is incredably valuable, i just don't post very often.
so once again sorry.
I'm putting myself in the naughty corner for a while.

Regards Scott

I have been guilty of the same. I am sure apology accepted by all. We are all human and get stonkered occasionally. Keep on trucking.

Actually I think that Cisko's idea of Vaseline on your hands is probably the best idea that's been touted rubber gloves can't breathe so after about half an hour in them your hands start to sweat leading to the same problems you have just from the rain, what you need is gloves made from a material that can breathe ( so your hands don't sweat) but will not allow water through it, if you find some gloves like that I'd be very interested in them, in the mean time if you coat your hands in Vaseline then the water will mostly just run off them as with any other water dispersal product.

I had thought of recommending Barrier Cream which was common years ago. It used to have a certain lanolin (sheep fat) content which is generally good for the skin.

Vaseline is petroleum jelly which may be benign while lanolin may be beneficial. Barrier Cream will wash off in water and will tend to feel slimy when wet but if it is rubbed in well I think it will be absorbed by the skin and tend to waterproof it.

Yep....we all make mistakes. ...takes a good person to own up to it.

On topic....or left of and back on autopilots

My list of things I need...a autopilot just doesn't rate.
What exactly is wrong with all on board taking two hour watches?

I also note...marine debris. ..and cargo ships....aren't as easily avoided by mechanical means as they are with human hands and eyes.

My sailing is different. ...I island hop...only in flat seas with my partner and hopefully guests.

Kiss is my golden rule....if something breaks ....there is no bunnings out here.

On topic.....I wonder if a pair of motorcycle gloves would work well ?

No worries is all good, cheers. I just had to giggle at your first post Scott.
If i got over sensitive at a ribbing when in the seabreeze sailing saloon(general discussion is like the public bar), that would be more of a worry than the chance of skin peeling off my hands ona wet coastal sail.

With the tiller pilot it comes down a lot to sea state. For example today i sailed from Sugarloaf Bay to Crowdy Harbour and had to be on the tiller all day .swell and seas on the aft qtr was pushing the stern around and TP was going from nearly lock to lock if left longer than 5 minutes. Yet another top hat came from Forster TP on the whole way because seas were just at of the beam.
