I'm a Big Fan of the GARMIN GPS Watch. In 2007 I just got back from all the Paddleboard Races in Hawaii and was looking for a Training Watch " hard to find" there was a Triathlete's Watch on the market But me no into Triathlons (to much training involved for that sport) - Anyway I was working North Burleigh Lifeguard Tower, August 2007.

I was getting ready for a 10 kilometre or 6 mile Bare Feet Beach Run in my lunch break I get 60 minutes for lunch & the run takes me 43 minutes. Anyway The Legend Kenny Wallace rocks up to do my Lunch break. After my run I get back to the Lifeguard Tower, I see Kenny Wallace playing with this watch it was the first 305 GARMIN GPS Sports Watch "I was intrigued" Kenny says the AIS "Australian Institute of Sport gave then to us for training purposes. I said I want one and quickly went on line to eBay & purchased my very first GARMIN GPS Sports Watch.

I tell you the day I got that GARMIN Watch you needed a year 12 education just to work it out on the Computer. Me I only have a 6 grade education so it took me a little while to work it out.

Then here I am telling everyone about my GARMIN GPS Sports Watch. So now everyone from Currumbin even my friends on Maui were burning & laughing at me "not to worry" by 2010 everyone that was burning me had a GARMIN Watch on there wrist.

I've had a few GARMIN Watches since 2007 - I've got the Garmin forerunner 955 watch now. Even have the Garmin Edge 1030 for my Mountain Bike and the DriveSmart 86, 8-inch Car GPS

One time I purchased the GARMIN 310 GPS in 2010 on eBay and got "RIPPED OFF" - cut a long story short I phoned PayPal they said we have No Recollection of this payment - I said really because I have my Credit Card Statement in my left hand here's the serial number, I will see you in court - then I contacted eBay. eBay are very hard to contact, I did get eBays cell number through a close solicitor friend of the family. I leave a message on eBays answering service eBay gets back to me with 12 hours saying you can't take us to court we are not responsible. I said yes you are because I had to go through you eBay to buy the watch of the seller - So I ironphil was the first person in History to Sue eBay & PayPal yes they settled out of court BUT changed there laws thanks to me. I did find the seller he was from Israel so I sent him a nice response for ripping me off. I said there is only one thing Hitler didn't do to all you Jews is @#@# & @#@# that you's all, you @#@# thief, I was so angry.

Kenny Wallace is an Olympic gold medalist in canoeing. He achieved this remarkable feat at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, where he won a gold medal in the K1 500m Kayak Sprint. Additionally, he secured a bronze medal in the K1 1000m event, showcasing his versatility and skill in the sport

I see Kenny Wallace & his Gold Medal buddies kayak past my place every morning around 6:00am while I have my coffee.

I spoke to Kenny Wallace just a couple of days before my 2026 Downwind MAUI Tour. Kenny Wallace now travels the world as a Guest Speaker he said I'm kind of over the traveling as it's a busy schedule.

What a week it has been, Starting off with Jeremy Riggs Flat-Water Paddle-Ups at Kahului Harbour. Jeremy Riggs is a WEAPON of a coach. He said iron you're putting too much weight on your front foot. ironphil "thanks coach" I learnt a lot.

I am up to 5 hours already in my Flat-Water Paddle-Up's pursuit practise. I have been going to Currumbin Creek the last 5 months practising. As I will not do Flat-Water Paddle-Up's in the canal in my backyard "Too Many Bull Sharks in that canal" I said to myself OK ironphil (I'm going to Master This Flat-Water Paddle Up's = I'm on a GATOR:- 8'10" x 19" @ 115 litres. using the 1500 Fireball Front Wing , 640mm Ultra Short Fuselage, 50 Tail & the AXIS Ultra PRO 720 Mast.

I do not count the Jeremy Riggs Drills as part of my (time equals Hours) I only count the "time" I'm paddling at 100% trying to get up on foil. it's so hard and very disheartening to give 100% and feel like you are just Pi@#ing Into The Wind as I said it's SO disheartening after like 17 strokes (Heart Rate) is at 95% ME Gassed Already.

It was hard trying to get in the MOOD to do the Flat-Water Paddle Up's = I have a couple of reasons
1. The Waves have be so PUMPING on all the Points from Burleigh Heads to Currumbin Alley to Snapper Rocks into Greenmount; I'd be just Too Tired from being Surfed Out & then try to do Flat-Water Paddle Up's - Currumbin Alley at Low-Tide was Ruler Edge Perfection the best the Alley has been in like 4 years already there was so many PRO's out (Snapper must have been 💩

An Old Photo of PUMPING Currumbin Alley early 2000's

2. Busting my balls just to try & get up on foil is so disheartening
3. I did force myself on many occasion I must concur this Flat-Water Paddle Up's. I did eventually get the 8'10" GATOR out of the water and have got up to 2 paddle strokes of the Paddle BUT then come down from being just too gassed. When I came in after that Flat-Water training session = this guy comes up to me & said what happened "you got your board out of the water" I said I was gassed

They say it takes about 20 hours to master this Flat-Water Paddle Up's.

At Jeremy Riggs Flat-Water Paddle Up's Tuesdays class. I finally got to met this Bloke, Ron.

Sorry the YouTube video from channel Nine has been disconnected - it was a great interview. Don being chased by a 4 metre shark while he was up on foil "Frightening"
-vBLgXYBCTaqxt5

Ron is a hardcore Santa Barbara; Rincon Surfer as well. Ron rides a shortboard. I❤️Rincon I've had that wave 6ft of Pumping Perfection. I hope I get to surf 🏄‍♂️🌊Rincon again some day before I die.

Kihei was GOING OFF today Thursday 9th July, winds gusting 35 to 40+ knots the BUMPS where BIG & Bulk Fun with endless Glides. I ❤️Kihei (But it's Fickle) at 40+ plus knot winds, I personally think that kind of wind💨 is too strong.
30 knot Winds is Bulk More Fun👍

Had a few days on Maliko with an 8 second Ground Swell, I just kept getting my Gluteus Maximus handed to me those Big Swell they'd just leave you behind - even The GOAT Jeremy Riggs said it' was hard work out there today. On my 12ft Prone Paddleboard or 18ft SUP I would have been ❤️life out there. On the foilboard different story BUT the guys who are my age or older on the foil-driver boards where having a blast out there they'd come into Kahului Harbour with Big Smiles on their Faces. "STOKED"

Kihei was a 10 yesterday Friday 10th July winds 35+ knots; it was So EPIC with Big BUMPS with Plenty of POWER the GLIDES were insanely Good. Did my fastest time on some of my longest Glides. I needed a smaller front wing like the AXIS 1070 fireball To control my speed more. I was on the AXIS 1160 fireball great wing BUT I was going so f@#kn fast like a formula one racing car driver I needed to slow down a bit to have more control. Even good mate the GOAT Jeremy Riggs said Kihei was Epic! It was so good! Best Kihei we’ve had in a long time. Everyone who did Kihei that day was STOKED all giving it a 10 out of 10.

A couple of Good Sources said Kihei should be good again tomorrow - fingers crossed already.

We've all sen the IAO Mountains when Downwinding Maliko, I have always paddled to the centre of the V you do not really want to keep the V of the IAO Mountains on your left.
The IAO Valley in Maui features stunning mountain landscapes. The IAO Valley is renowned for its lush greenery and dramatic geological formations, particularly the iconic 1,200-foot tall ʻĪao Needle, which is a prominent landmark in the area. This valley is part of the West Maui Mountains, an extinct volcanic range, and is rich in both natural beauty and cultural history.
Cultural Significance
The Iao Valley holds historical importance, being the site of the Battle of Kepaniwai in 1790, where Kamehameha I defeated the Maui army. The valley is also rich in Hawaiian cultural heritage, with many plants significant to the native population
Activities
Visitors can explore the Iao Valley State Monument, which offers trails, scenic views, and educational opportunities about the local flora and fauna
The IAO Needle Lookout Trail provides a short hike to a viewpoint overlooking the needle and surrounding cliffs.

I did a Maliko Run the other day, when I finished at Kahului Harbour I noticed this young grommet sketching the IAO Mountains - His father looks at me & says he's an artist.

It’s my 3rd Summer at the Paddle IMUA Day number 69 in my Downwind Foiling Journey.

Josh Ku is an all-round Weapon of a Foilboarder

Congratulations to Kane DeWilde for taking out 1st Place in 20:52 minutes for the 6.8 miles or 11 kilometre Paddle IMUA Race from Maliko Gulch into Kanaha.Beach . I watched a video of Kane DeWilde foiling the Paddle IMUA Race, he was Pumping like a man possessed while Gliding on foil So Fast; he such a Weapon.

This Summer I have been Progressing on my Downwind Foiling Journey especially on Kihei - Kihei always turns on for me whenever I am in town, I do the 10 kilometre or 6 mile Kihei Run. I’ve had some of my longest & best Glides Surfing Left Surfing Right flying over BUMPS doing faster times with every Foil Run, ever the Maliko 2 Sugar cove 8 kilometre 5 mile Run; has been good to me.

Now it's the day of the Paddle IMUA Race . Thinking "I've Got This" I should be able to do it in under one Hour? well no chance I had a shocker like f@#en KOOK I was so disappointed "crybaby" I'm done with this Maliko Gulch to Kanaha Beach Run always hands me my Glutei's Maximus BUT I have Progressed in the QUE.
My Times
2024:- 1:43:06 second last
2025:- 1:38:08 third last
2026:- 1:25:32 fourth last

All I can say is that the rate I am going in this Paddle IMUA Race is it may take me another 10 years by 2036 I should be able to just get inside the 45 minute time❓❓

The condition for me on the Day of the Paddle IMUA Race - The Start was a punish everyone was pushing each other forward to get a Good Start so now all the Guns were like 4 hundred metre in-front when the Green Flag was raised to start. It took me awhile to get up on foil, I found the BUMPS were really fat with little troths making it hard for a KOOK like me to get on Foil. I eventually did get up on Foil a few times BUT I'd be going so fast on my AXIS 1160 fireball I'd get thrown off or outrun the BUMP. it took me forever to get to the finish line,

So the next day I'm still licking my wounds from my Paddle IMUA "Disappointment" it's now Monday 13th July Kihei turns on I have the funnest Foil Run doing a good time with plenty of fun Glides on Bumps. The next day Tuesday 14th Kihei delivers again "Thank You Mr Wizard" Life's Good. Wednesday no foil run thanks to the SW Devil Winds BUT had a great day Talking Story with the boys at KAA it was a laugh a minute; hahaha GOLD. Thursday 16th Maliko 2 Sugar Cove turns On with a good strong wind with awesome Bumps. All I can say is let's see what happens at the next Paddle IMUA Race.

I'm 64yo

One thing I like about staying up in Kula on Maui is the Star Gazing at night. It's a real buzz laying on the grass just staring up into the night sky & get lost. It's a form of Meditation as well; so Relaxing. I just saw The Biggest Shooting Star of all time it was so bright in the night sky it lasted for like 5 seconds hurting my neck following it which seemed like a minute.

Good Mate Blair Thorndike annual paddleboard race was a huge success today (our second year running it ourselves). We had more entrants than ever (all top contenders in next week's M2O race), perfect conditions, super good Magoo's Pizza at the finish, and prizes/goodie bags for all. The stoke was palpable, our tireless efforts rewarded, and we look forward to growing our event further next year. These are just a few pics... many more to come!

Epic Conditions the BUMPS were "SO GOOD" was flying out the BUT the reverse current was NUKING a PUNISH should have been doing a 5 to 6 minute Kilometre or say a 5 1/2 minute mile BUT with that reverse current was nuking I'll look at my watch it say 8 minute kilometres (I can paddle faster that that in flat water) even the young American Hawaiian guy said the Current was BRUTAL doing 12 minute miles.

Big Thanks to Kai Lenny for getting Red Bull to sponsor the Paddleboard Hawaii Paddleboard Championship - "Duke's Race"

Big Thanks to Blair's beautiful wife Leinaala Hutchinson for putting the Race all together. A Thankless Job.

I got one of my Biggest BUMPS ever on a 12ft Stock Prone Paddleboard - I was on this BUMP For Ever surfing Left Surfing Right Gliding, even in the troths on the back of the Bump, going so fast I'd Glide over Bumps anyway I was on this bumps for like a minute or two (Life's FUN) I come flying over the top of this Huge BUMP & Nose Dived I ate 💩lost my Cap with my H2O audio 😭 Oh No; No More Music. I enjoy paddling with Music at 110 decibels while Paddling - What did you say I can't hear you.

You Go Girl ❤️it. You're a WEAPON of a Sheila. I only wish I could do a M2M on the Foilboard Me Still a KOOK already on a foilboard. I've done M2M, 43 kilometres on a 18ft SUP in 3 1/2 hours - The good Guys on foilboards are doing the M2M 43 kilometres in 81/82 minutes. Like that's insanely fast "AWESOMENESS" I'll bet, in the near future 75 minutes will be the time to beat.

I heard conditions were EPIC like a 10/10 "STOKED" for all the Foilboarder's to experience the Pai'lolo Channel as Good As It Gets.

In 2010 there was 25 of us lined up for the M2M Pai'lolo Channel Crossing all on Unlimited 18ft SIC SUP's & we got the Pai'lolo EPIC 10/10 with 30/40 knot winds with Big Troths & Big Bumps. What an experience that was it's still vivid in my mind.

In 2008 Molokai Local Ekola Kamala cousin to Dave Kalama invited me to do the Pai'lolo Channel with 3 of his mates on 18ft SUP's 2 days before the Molokai2Oahu Race - To My Regret; I Declined❓ I guess I was scared or I 💩 No Support Boat all alone in the Pai'lolo Channel.

How GOOD does it get when you hit the Kamalo Buoy = Hands Down it's THE BEST Downwind Run on the Planet. Like Kihei on Steroids ❤️it.

Big Day at KAA Beach today there was like 20 of us Guys & Girls all TALK STORY about the M2M & M2O it's was very Entertaining with laugh's a minutes; the one liners that went down with everyone's quick wit was ALL TIME. wetting myself with laughter for like 4 hours already. I so ❤️ that kind of atmosphere.

No Foilboard Downwind today too much dark clouds with slight rain - But the forecast for Kihei looked really Good but with so much Dark Clouds we stayed at KAA. KAA beach was the better choice.

I met this bloke Brett Lickle, a Hard Core Maui Local and Laird Hamilton’s BIG WAVE Tow-Partner. when I was working on Namotu Island Fiji as a Surfing Lifeguard Boatman early 2000’s anyway we are having a few Fiji Bitter’s at the Wanga Bar.

I said to Brett Lickle while he was choofing on a cigarette; How long can you hold your breath❓Brett said What if you become unconscious. I said you Drown. I started laughing (What A Classic Answer) to the question.

Some TRIVIA:- Vonu Pure Lager 4.6% is a Fijian Alcohol competitor to the Fiji Bitter 4.6% - So Vonu Pure Lager did a survey on Fiji Bitter (I laugh when I found out) the alcohol content ranged from 2% alcohol to 18% alcohol. So Now I worked it out sometimes I’d have like 10 Fiji Bitter & would not feel drunk & then sometimes I’d only have 2 Fiji Bitter & feel wasted.

I always run into Brett Lickle every time I come to Maui I enjoy Talk Story with Brett - Brett is a Parawinger on the foilboard (I am not into Parawinging or Kiting on a foilboard to me it’s sailing I’ve never really been into sailing) I’m happy to SUP foil with just a Paddle. Brett Lickle has just started going down that road SUP foiling with just a Paddle - Brett said I did a Maliko Run the other day Got Just ONE BUMP it’s hard, lucky I had my jet-ski with me. I said try Kihei it’s so much easier to learn SUP foiling with a Paddle for the Beginner KOOK I❤️Kihei (it’s day number 73 off my foilboard Downwind Journey) I still have a long way to go.

Checkout the Lenny Brothers interview BRETT LICKLE: The Heaviest Big Wave Story Ever Told

Kihei was so EPIC yesterday Wednesday 22nd July; it turned on at 3:00pm till 5:00pm. So Randy & I had a 2 hour window. Got to Ulua Beach around 2:00pm the wind was Gusting 35/40 knots already "Yes Please Mr Wizard" you should have see the Sheep in the Field e.g Whit Caps🤙❤️😮 loaded the car launched right on 3:00pm Randy & I had Kihei to ourselves "were is everyone" There was a South Swell Running (I was told by Legend Oahu Local Mate = My Brother From Another Mother, Blair Thorndike) said; the South Shore is 6/8ft with 10ft+ sets closing out at Ala Moana Bowl. Kihei had these Perfect Corduroy Lines of Swell BUT the South Swell was making it like a Washing Machine SOME BIG BUMPS BUT SUPER CHALLENGING. If it wasn't for the South Swell Kihei would have been a 12 out of 10.

Today Maliko turned ON had a Fun Session but took the AXIS 1250 fireball (what was I thinking) Big Mistake, should have stayed on the AXIS 1160 fireball. Ran into some Foilers. They Said; we went to Kihei it's Turned OFF waist of a drive - Randy & I said "well you should have been there yesterday"

This is an Awesome Video. Nathan Florence talks about Injuries & Fitness. I've had so many Surfing related injuries. I started Surfing in 1971 as a 9yo Grommet Redhead Beach Newcastle. I just lived & breathed Surfing got very good at it. I'm now 32yo "LIFE'S GOOD" Surfing at a high level. Now at 32yo I suffered my very first related Surf Injury f@#k crying then at 34 yo another Surf related injury Double f@#k more crying = Could never surf at that High Level again as that 32yo Once Did. It took me 10 years of constant body adjustments just to fix my Hardcore Surfers Body; (I've had so many Surfing Related Injuries even after turning 34yo) it's a daily one hour routine I do now at 64yo just to put my body into alignment & keep the PAIN away? if I do not do my fix body routine I am in so much Pain, Oh Da Pain: I can't even get to my feet. Surf to 100

Like this years Paddle IMUA Race I thrown my Back Out just from standing around for like 4 hour at Maliko Gulch waiting for the 1:00pm Start - trying to get to my feet on the Foilboard was a Punish, Oh Da Pain - after the Paddle IMUA race, it took me 2 days Just to put my Lower Back, Back into place to kill the Pain. My Back can't stand still it has to keep moving. Imagine being a Lolly Pop guy you know the Stop & Go road side worker - Well 1/2 hour in that job; I'd be on Compo.

Slowly working my way back home from Maui. Stopping off in Thailand a 40 year Bucket List Dream finally ✔️off.

Hanging out at the Buddhist Temple Pattaya Thailand. With Maui mate Jack from Paia - Jack let me stay at his place one Winter many many many Moons Ago I got the Point 8/10ft at Ho'okipa Beach & got Pumping Honolulu Bay 3/8ft. I was hoping to witness a 50ft Swell so I could hangout on Kai Lenny's Boat to watch the Brave Big Wave Surfers at JAWS

Just so you know Buddhism is Not a Religion.

Pattaya is an eye opener. - I saw the most Beautiful girl she looked stunning I go over to talk story with her only to realise, He was the most Beautifulist Girl that I had ever seen. I said No Can.

2 things I have witness since being in Pattaya Like everyone still smokes Cigarettes "f@#n filthy habit" BUT I did see a Thai girl lite up a Cigarette "I thought you could only do the drawback through the mouth" I seen her put it down below to smoking the cigarette doing the drawback (I hope she don't get lip cancer) - then I watched a Pingpong tournament & these Thai Girls don't even use there hands "So Talented"

TWO of the Greatest Buddhist Quotes Ever
