Hi Gang

trying to get going on my first sup.
stats: 5'11 85kg beginner, like long walks on the beach... kidding

i have come down to 2 options for about the same cash;

option 1: 08 naish 10'6. 2nd hand obviously but in A1 nick. I will be able to pair this with a full carbon new Quick Blade. $1400 delivered + $450 paddle

option 2: 09 PSH10'6 (28") new with an oxbow full carbon paddle. $1800 package

Advice would be great, flat water 50-60% so i need decent glide but dont want a slug when i do graduate to the surf.

the other option i have is an 11'6 naish 2+1 fin set up. Am i kidding myself starting on a 10'6 ?

cant wait to get going on the water so don't hold back on the advice.

I started on the Naish 10'6 and have a PSH 10ftAA (the quiver killer!). Both great boards that surf well and are fine for flat water, but I haven't tried the PSH 10'6.

I'm only 70kg and found the volume of the Naish (156L) heavy going in the surf. The PSH 10AA was about as stable, easier to turn to catch waves and at 137L much easier to get through the break and more fun in the surf.

At 85Kg you would probably be OK on the PSH 10'AA in my opinion and not looking to go smaller after a couple of months like I did.

If you're set on your two options I'm with Hilly - go the PSH 10'6 with lower volume at 147L.

Hope that helps

Totally agree with hilly @ 85 kegs 106 PSH will flat water fine and IMHO is a far
better surf able board than the other options.

I've surfed them both at the same place in similar conditions (Crunchies in Vic) and I
rekon the Naish surfs better. However at your weight you will find the PSH more
comfortable to learn on as it's definately more stable.

Either way you will be on the water having fun!

After the dramas I had with the Naish 106 and the joy of the PSH and their backup service-NO CONTEST.

The best all around board with ease of use would be the Naish 11'4. Comes with a 2+1 set-up and is 30" wide, so plenty of stability. At 11'4 in length it has plenty of glide in the flats.

This was one of my first boards, I graduated down since then but it is a classic.

Hey mate

I'm pretty much same height and weight as you, started on the Naish 10-6 myself and loved it. Surfs good longboard style, can get up to the nose and it turns pretty good for such a massive thing.

I've also since graduated down, but was pretty stoked on it for a first board.

Good luck

Hey Bnaccas, was it pretty small?

I am biased, obviously, but the two don't compare when there is a bit of juice around.

I sell both and spent a lot of time on the Naish 10'6 but they are two different boards.

I sell both and spent a lot of time on the Naish 10'6 in an around small Sydney summer surf (which it is perfect for) but they are two different boards when it fires up a bit.
