Hi Mikesup
I owned this board and it handes well and is very stable. Good intermediate board. I found it wanted to hold the line. When it came out it was talked up alot. There have been a lot of advances with performance boards now.
cheers

The uber fish is not a bad board. If you can get a good s/h one for close to a grand it will be a good buy because the board is relatively stable for say, up to 80kg and paddles pretty well and surfs pretty well also. yes there are prettier boards and better performing boards but at the right price you cant go too wrong with the uber. If you were going to spend over $1250 ish for an uber I would consider looking at other options because for not much more you could perhaps get a hold of a starboard 9'8 or similar and the uber is not in the same league of a board like that. If you do go with the uber they definately go better as a 2 + 1 setup and they will be a lot more stable - and you still have the option of the quad setup if you want to try it. it is a good fun and versatile board and you wont be sorry with your purchase.

I actually owned an uber fish and at 75kg I can safely say that at 90kg you would be needing to buy a snorkel with it !! unless of course you were an intermediate to advanced supper - but then you probably wouldn't be looking at an uber.

On the global website is says surfer weight 90kgs But then again its a older board now i guess.

Thats a worry as the PSH 9'6WAA is smaller but different i guess

Hi all,

I've been a lurker for a while but as I have an uber Fish I thought I'd give my two penneth worth and finally post on this forum.

I read Casso's report on the board last year and would agree with what he has to say about it....after all he has tried alot of boards and had some epic sessions I particularly liked the PSH gun story!

I am 6'2" in height and weigh in at around 97kgs (fluctuates) I have been supping for roughly 10 months (or should I say sussing after the shinannigans surrounding the surf scene of Orange County Cal!?) I'm no pro either but I enjoy it as much as the next person.

The uber floats me ok, I get deck wash to the rear of the board but it's not a problem.

The board is stable enough and even from my first outing I didn't find a problem in that area, my board prior to this was a Laird 12'1".

It catches small waves/ripples with ease, I've not taken it out in anything over 3/4 ft but I found catching waves of that size ok too, not as easy as a longer board though but that is to be expected.

Once on the wave it goes well and trims nicely, I found it relatively easy to pump down the line and very easy to get up on the nose, Infact I love noseriding this board. It is easy to redirect off the back of a wave once you have finished your ride and paddle back out for the next one.

It has a neat carry handle and is therefore easy to get to the waters edge.

My personal preference is to ride it as a quad set up it feels quicker than a 2+1 which I found drags the tail and slows the board. I did however put a big fin in the rear as I was advised a bloke my size would need one to help stabilise the board. A quad set up is fine.

The uber fish needs to be looser in turning it is a down side to the board, I tried a 10' Bonga southpoint and threw it all over then got back on my uber fish and wasn't able to do the same.

The nose on the uber fish is way thick although it doesn't appear to cause a problem in the size of surf I've taken it out in however i've always thought it should be more streamlined, whilst on about the nose I think it should have a wee bit more rocker too. The rails should maybe be adjusted (next 7s model perhaps?) to loosen the board up. Finally on the not so good aspects of the board I think they should've put an extra 1/4 inch in the thickness just to add a tiny bit more bouyancy.

That said I've had some great sessions on it. I now feel I'd like something more performance based and am really keen to get my hands on a PSH 9'6" WAA or Ripper or maybe a Starboard 9'8" Element I think?(at some point when finances dictate) I'm soo pleased we can now get PSH and Starboard in NZ!! Happy days!!

Just my two penneth worth

Cheers

Kagey pretty well sums it up. I am 6' and about 94kg and used to own one. I have had it in overhead waves off Moffats and even a barrel (only one on SUP so far) just before I sold it.
It floated me fine. Firstpoint is right on about it being a great board for ladies as it is easy to get on and off the car and paddles well in flat water (unless she is 90kg)
The board is fine as a intermediate board or for someone who just wants to play.

I know have a 9'6" and wouldn't look back.

Cheers

I have only paddled the the uber fish once in flat water. It really didnt have enough float and the board was submerged most of the time.

It wasnt an option for me.

-Ready to sell of my Uber Fish and move on to Laguna or Magic Carpet, but its staying in the family after my 20 year old comp surfer son watched Luke Egan on the JS Vid. then Parko.,then Kianoe Buepree on the Kuhoe Vid, then Keahi in the Daily.

If anything he,ll use it as a fitness tool.

Perfect board for intermediate ability up to 95 kg . Stable in the chop, good paddle speed , has to be surfed on its rail and in the quad set up to get the most out of it.

Swanie , you haven,t been 95 kg since grade 10

pt sup, if your son's surfing doesn't improve out of sight, i'll eat my hat, even if he only paddles in the flats

If you saw my photo in the newspaper today I looked over the tone. I had in defence a thermal, spring suit and vest on. Still looked like a fat bugger though. Bit embarassing for the coast if they call that wave i was on the "wave of the day".

Mike,

I don't think you will sink it but you will defo get deck wash and the rear of the board may spend a bit of time submerged but you won't sink it. Now I don't know if that bothers you or whether you prefer to sit higher in the water or bounce around like a cork not even getting yer toes wet?

Whilst out on mine just over a month ago I noticed I was sitting particularly low in the water, I thought (naively) that it was just due to the extra weight of my sodden wetsuit. When I got home I weighed myself and was disturbed to see I was 102kgs (this is heavy for me, I've since stopped eating moro gold bars and have dropped 5kgs) I did struggle catching waves that day but that could be down to a few variables such as swell strength/direction, wind strength/direction, tides etc..

IMHO unless you are getting a cheap uber fish I would get something a little more responsive with a wee bit more volume. The PSH 9'6" WAA is 4 5/8 thick so thicker than the uber which is 4 1/4, the Starboard 9'8" Element is also thicker I believe? Or even get a custom one built then it will be perfect for you.

Hope this helps?
