Has anyone used Air Asia to get to Bali with their Sup. Keen to know what their size restrictions are for boards.
Cheers

Hey,

I had the same drama when I went in december. I would see if you can contact air asia in Perth airport. You get stung for weight so be prepared to pay extra.[}:)] I decided not to take it as I was heading over with family but wish I had!!!!! Hired a SUP for one day but that wasn't enough.

If they have a email address I would email them with length and weight.

You may just need to supersize your weight allowance.

If they say yes. Keep a hard copy for proof when you check in.
Just incase you get some grief at the checkin counter.
Make sure you have a name and contact number from them.
cheers

Have used Air Asia twice now and won't use them again. The first time I was heading for Bali, like you, from the Gold Coast. After adding up all the extra charges you are not far off going other airlines.

You fly into LCC airport, which is one of the worst airports around. Make sure you allow plenty of time between your connections (3hrs to be safe) as there can be really long queues.

Avoid it, if you have a choice!

Hello guys,
I just got back from trip to WA. Flown Air Asia go and back..
I did not bring my SUP but I have Kitesurfing Equipment.
From Bali to Perth I booked the XXL baggage plan of the internet of 30 kilos.
Cost about 30A$ and it went all ok.
From Perth to Bali I did the same but I had to pay another 20 A$ as they say it was sport equipment. The cost is of 20 A$ for a 15 kilos baggage. Not sure if they have issue with sizing..

I found the seat pretty normal, I booked also on line the one with extra leg room for just a bit extra. Good flight and nice crew. Spent about 600 A$ for return for 2 persons.
No complain from me.
Bye Jankie

PS. if you are looking at 3-4 days of SUPPING then for sure is better to rent.
Not sure about the price at SUPBali but with us is about 30 A$ for a guided session at our reef or about 45 A$ if you want to rent for the full day and bring the board away.
There are discount prices for longer term rental but I think that over 1 week you save if you bring your own.
You can see more details in our web site.

Hi Jankie,

Thanks for the info. Just booked a flight to Perth from Jakarta and payed way more than that!
As far as SUP rental in Sanur goes: Are there discounts for KITAS holders coming from Jakarta? If we bring our paddles is it cheaper?
If we chose to bring our boards from Jakarta, which airline would you recommend?

Cheers

Hello Mike,
we don't do distinctions between peoples and nationality, we keep our prices low for everyone.
If you bring your own paddle and leash we offer a 10 % discount on the rental rate.
Anyhow we do prefer if you use our paddles as they have rubber protection around the shaft so that you don't damage the boards.

Not sure from Jakarta to Bali... When I fly domestic I normally only go to Sumbawa.
Merpati charge about 1,5 A$ per kilo so I think it should be the same.
Normally for domestic they are pretty good.
Bye Jankie

I went to bali with air asia for new years and took two of my short boards with me. I had supersize luggage there and back. They classify surfboards as a sporting equipment so had to pay $20 to get the board on the plane, and when leaving bali 150,000 rupes to get them home. This was all cool, and my boards where well looked after. I think they have a length restriction of 7' or 8', but id call air asia and check. Have a great time when you go.
